Great perspective

I truly enjoyed this book, and was quite impressed with the detail of the lives of both Pattons.

Not A Good Listen

What would have made The Fighting Pattons better?

If it was more about history than father & son tales.

What could Brian M. Sobel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not try to spin the book in favor of Patton family agenda.

The book was trying to make the son more than he was and down play the father. It seemed like the book was written to glorify the Patton name than to tell history. Too much trying to spin a favorable light.

A very interesting family history

This is an extremely interesting family history. My only critique is that the reader, Adams Morgan, is just awful. Emphasis is in all the wrong places. That might have something to do with what sounds like a Bostonian accent, but it's extremely distracting.

A wonderful, accessible history that demonstrates the role of prayer in our nation's history. It is packed with the types of facts that are cherished by those who live to read history. I recommend this not only for those looking for a history of prayer but also to anyone interested in US history approached from a very different angle.

American History and the foundation of prayer

Friends in the Swiss government gave me this important review of American history and the foundational role that prayer has played in shaping and forming us as a people as well as the government of the United States of America.

James P. Moore Jr. has done an incredible job of writing this book and compiling resources from thousands of different sources on the history of prayer in America. Before writing this book, Mr. Moore looked for equivalent writings and the role and significance of prayer on American history and he could find none. So after seven years of writing this manuscript, he unearthed "a marvelous, hidden treasure chest." I agree and I would highly recommend this book as a treasured resource that I will continue to refer to in the coming years.

Mr. Moore puts prayer right at the center as he looks at history, faith, politics, literature, arts, entertainment, culture, music, sports, etc. in America. He says in his prologue on page xi, "Quite frankly, the story of American prayer is so powerful that it does not need to rely on anything but historic fact and reasonable interpretation.

A story for all time.

This was an awesome listen! Not only did this book contain a series of letters between two friends (who become closer through the letters), but is done so by three seprate readers. One acts as a narrator, a male voice reads the soldiers letters, and a female voice reads the young womans letters. They enflect emotion, and I felt that I have a true understanding of these two would be lovers!

This is a must read for anyone interested in learning more about life during the civil war.

Troop Strength and Casualties

Between April 1861 and April 1865, an estimated 1.5 million troops joined the war on the side of the Union, and approximately 1.2 million went into Confederate service. An estimated total of 600,000 were killed in action or died of disease. More than twice that number were wounded, but survived at least long enough to muster out.

Casualties of the Civil War

Casualties cannot be calculated exactly, due to missing records (especially on the Southern side) and the inability to determine exactly how many combatants died from wounds, drug addiction, or other war-related causes after leaving the service.
