Today’s guest, Brian Sauder, shares about what drew him to the Lord in his youth. Wherever you are at, there is your ministry. It doesn’t matter whether you are in business, bi-vocational in ministry, or in full time ministry.
Learn how to be the second man, and take the arrows for the leader, and help make them successful and look good.
Leaders lead by being vulnerable within their teams. Your team can then know your heart, and know they can also be vulnerable themselves.
Learn how to have difficult conversations as a leader. Sometimes this is hard because we want to be liked. But the longer you wait to have them, the more difficult they become, and the more hurt can result. Be able to articulate what you want, and what you don’t want. I want to be able to work through this, but I don’t want it to divide us. And let that be known at the beginning of the conversation. Some conversations need time, and it is okay to circle back again in a week or two weeks from now, and allow the conversation to develop.
Be a person of integrity. Integrity is what you do when no one is looking.
Be a Lid Lifting Leader. As leaders, we have lids in our life that we need someone to lift, and the people we lead also have lids. Be the type of leader that lifts lids for others. And continue to be learning yourself, and be coached and mentored yourself. As a main leader, you also need to be coached. A leader that lifts lids for others wants to see people around them succeed, and even go further then you’ve ever gone. Top level leaders love to see people around them excel.
Look for those around you who can mentor you. Try to find someone who can help you in your leadership, and that requires being vulnerable. Be open to that. You might have valuable new ideas, but you need someone with experience to help you. And learn as much as you can—keep reading, keep learning, keep studying. Even be open to studying things that might not pertain to your specific field, but it makes you well rounded. You never know how this will come together in your leadership.
Seek God’s face. Seek the Lord over your life and your strategy, review it, have a plan, and see what you need to do moving forward.
