About 6:50 a.m. July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, a Mexican national who had spent decades building homes in Houston, loaded his crew into a van and headed for a construction site. Within minutes, unmarked federal vehicles surrounded him. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent opened fire. Salgado Araujo was pronounced dead at Ben Taub Hospital. A source told CNN he was not the person agents were looking for — a claim ICE has not confirmed.

Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar isn’t buying what the Trump administration is peddling.

Hours after President Donald Trump and the Department of Homeland Security claimed to have uncovered hundreds of thousands of noncitizens registered to vote across four states — including Nevada — Aguilar pushed back hard, calling the announcement part of a “predictable playbook” designed to sow doubt about American elections.

Clark County commissioners signaled Tuesday they will begin developing regulations for data centers — and are weighing a possible pause on new applications — after an outpouring of public concern over the industry’s environmental impact.

U.S. Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, both D-Nev., have joined a group of Senate colleagues in calling on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government to bar the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from using federal funds to stop states and tribal nations from regulating online prediction markets.

The push, led by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., follows several CFTC lawsuits in recent months targeting states that have sought to regulate and impose safeguards on prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket.

She was honored Tuesday by the Las Vegas Grand Prix with two free tickets to this year’s race in November. Fontanilla, 26, said working on cars wasn’t always a passion of hers, but she would always watch her dad tinker with whatever vehicles they had at the time. When Fontanilla moved to Las Vegas about five years ago, her initial goal was to enter the medical field.

But in 2024, she found a spark of interest in her dad’s old hobby and traded studying the anatomy of the human body for the anatomy of a car.
