"I can't remember what it was, but it was what I had. And so I decided to go to the supermarket, and I was at the till. This is how the story starts and my Hollywood bowl story. And, yeah, there I am with a loaf of bread and a pack of cigarettes. And I'm looking at it. I didn't have enough. So I'm looking at it, I'm looking at these two items, and I thought, okay."

"And this ultimately led to discovering some of LA's sexual underground, including the polyamory world and the kink world and the queer world. And I began traveling to other parts of the world, including Africa and New guinea and India and Asia, to find out more about, you know, was the poly stuff I was seeing in LA. Were there any parallels anywhere else? And this eventually led to my doctoral dissertation on polyamory and jealousy."

"So we started literally getting on our bikes and taking our bikes all the way down imperial to Dockwaller beach to jump in the water. And we were young coming from South LA, but we would go down there and we would get our little boogie boards. We even were taught how to swim. We were even taught how to swim at Dockwaller beach. The lifeguards and we took a program where they actually let us do it for free at that time."

"And after the show, we were filing out and someone came out of the backstage door going, does anyone have any rolling papers? So I just happen to have rolling papers. Fancy that. So I said, yes, I do. They said, well, I wonder if I could borrow them from you? I said, yeah, sure, no problem. And so long as you take me and my friends backstage with you. So I said, sure, no problem."

"I recently told this story on another swell, but I thought it would be a good one to post my own swell cast. You know, I lived in LA most of my life, and LA is a place where you will encounter celebrities from time to time. It's not like how everybody that's not from LA thinks about it and that there's celebrities everywhere you go, and once a day you encounter a celebrity pretty."

"In any case, if it didn't talk to me in those technical ways, would probably have a lot to say about my driving, or at least the driving habits of other people on the road. So I think if my car would talk, it would be, why can't I be back in Germany, driving on the autobahn where everybody is sane? Why do you have to put me out on the streets of Los Angeles with all these highways and potholes and bus lanes and bicycle lanes and everything?"

"But it's become one of my favorite hikes. I don't know what to call it, but I know how to get to it. And I talk about this story as a car story because when you think about road trips, sometimes we think about them as like, pack the car and get away for five days and get ready to do this big thing across the country or up the coast."

"My wife and I really love theme parks. We like going to theme parks. We like watching theme park related content on YouTube. Cringe yes, I know, but I love it. But one theme park that sort of eluded me, despite it being relatively close to where I lived most of my life, is not Berry Farm. Now. I think the last time time that I had gone to Knott's Berry Farm was when I was about nine years old for a friend's birthday."

"And it's sad that a lot of these things are gone, but it's also eat knowing that there's still these fragments from a bygone day, and that even though I never personally grew up there and many of the original residents have since passed away, it still holds a place in my heart and importantly, a place where my grandma, aunties and uncles all still reside."

"My favorite restaurant in LA was called Mishima. Now, Mishima was near the Beverly center and it was in a strip mall. But it was the most unbelievable japanese food and the most amazing restaurant that I think I've ever been to Japanesewise. And I can tell you that I'm a snob because we grew, spending time growing up in Australia, which has so much amazing asian food."
