Want to know what the SCCA is up to north east Ohio?  Then this is the podcast episode to listen to!  They have a very busy season planned and Dave Lancaster shares all the details about their programs and events.

Dave is the Regional Executive of the NEOHIO Region of SCCA Inc.  Neohio SCCA is an active club that offers Club Racing, Time Trials, Solo (Autocross), Rally Cross, Street Survival and Road Rally Events in Northeastern, OH.   We have 540 active members.     The Region is also very involved with the Track Night in America Events at Nelson Ledges and Operating the Longest Day of Nelson Ledges this year. 

Dave has been associated with Sports Car Racing on and off since 1989.  He grew up with a father who raced a Corvette in SCCA and IMSA events in the 1970s and early 80s.   Dave basically grew up at the track. 

He races a Spec Racer Gen3 and have done so since his return to racing in 2004. He's also joined the  Endurance Racing Scene in some AER events and is a member of the Junk Player Special VW owned by Steve Lannoch. 

Dave is an avid Snowmobiler which allows him to spend time with his family and friends.  "I can't be late to the Grid, but I can be late to the trail. "

Episode 8!

Paul Hirsch joins us to talk about grassroots motorsports and how he first got involved in karting and eventually endurance racing.  He shares his advice to those looking to get started in racing and shares his plans for 2021.  He and Bill talk about some of the adventures they had while endurance racing including one very snowy day picking up an E30 at the US/Canadian border.

Paul's motor sport career began simply as a hobby in the early 2000's. Paul has certainly made a name for himself many times over in Karting, Endurance car racing, and Autocrossing. He has been racing in several disciplines and has graduated from prestigious race schools such as Skip Barber and Mario Andretti racing School.  He has a racing license and can drive in SCCA, NASA, ChampCar, WRL, and AER. A proven "fast, front runner" in every car he has driven!

Paul has several wins, poles, and has been incredibly blessed to have driven an enormous variety of vehicles. Paul is a clean driver, extremely consistent running several laps within a thousandth of each other whether it be in endurance racing or sprint format. Paul has never been involved in any major wrecks.

In addition to his motorsports career he holds a Bachelors in political science and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. He currently works in Higher education.

What an episode!

Honestly, we could have talked for hours with these gentlemen.  Tons of great information about their passion for helping get folks on track and truly helping others.  Not everything we talked about is in this episode - which means that we'll come out with a bonusode (is that even a word?) to share the rest of what we talked about.

Some interesting highlights:

• Marlon had a Mazda Speed Protege named Spicy and there were roughly 600 made in that color and Jay Leno owns one.
• Jay was the first American Iron Winner
• Hyperdrive is a great way to get on track to explore if you want to get into HPDE events
• NASA has a structured HPDE program to help drivers grow
• Marlon works hard to raise awareness of hereditary cancer through Force Racing

Hey there!  It's been two weeks, but we have another episode for you and it doesn't get any more grassroots than Jim Morris from Fauxrarri Motorsports.

Jim is a Marine Corps veteran (thank you!!!), husband, father, works full time at JE Pistons, just bought a house with a huge pole barn and is building a race car.  Does he even sleep?

In this episode we talk with Mark Basso, Founder of Autobahn Country Club in Joliet IL.

As you'll hear Mark always enjoyed sports that required a helmet and developed an idea that allowed car enthusiasts to enjoy their passion while including their families in the events and outings.

Did you know that Joilet was the third site they worked with to get this concept off the ground?  Talk about pushing forward on your goal and not letting "no" deter you!!

We also talk about how a few members have grown from racing karts to now driving in IMSA events.  Pretty cool!

Bill and John don't really have any car project updates, but Bill talks about a very interesting find one of his techs had while performing an oil change.

We are excited to have local race promoter Randy Maggio on the podcast for a deeper dive into local racing.  Randy and his family own the Painesville Speedway and Lorain Raceway Park - both in northern Ohio.  This kid will knock your socks off!  20 years old and hustling each day to make local, oval racing the best it can be.

Randy talks about his family's racing history, what he has planned for 2021 (hint: there's already a full schedule at each venue), and he talks about this crazy thing called the Turkey Leg 150 (which Bill & John have both raced in).

What are the guys up to?

Bill sort of has an update on getting ready to tackle the RX-7s, talks about how his truck is still in the body shop and shares that he hired a handyman to help with some projects at the shop.

John drives  his E30 this week and needed a twist tie to fix his throttle.  Plus there's some more Jaguar talk, this time on the silver one.

John talks about Ranger Rover Land Rover wheel fitment and Spec E46 questions.  Bill's been slow to start his projects.

Just like in life things can be stuck and John asks about stuck wheels on an E46 wagon and how to get them unstuck.  Again, similar to getting unstuck in life... use a little persuasion.   

We interview Tim Wadsworth from Track First in Richfield Ohio.

Tim talks about his store and services.  He addresses what track enthusiasts need to be doing in the off season to make sure that they are ready for the green flag to drop this season.

Friends since high school, Bill Snow and John Thorne both have careers in the automotive industry and they still play with cars.  So why not have a podcast talking about their car projects while interviewing industry insiders?

In Episode 1 Bill and John talk about the name, Late to Grid, and John's team name of procrasti-Racing and how they met in high school.   Not only were they both cross country runners, but they both a Z cars.  John a 1984 300ZX Turbo and Bill a 1982 280ZX.  

The name, Late to Grid?  Well, Bill and John are always running late and their track cars are never ready for the event!  Hence, they are always late to grid.

What's funny is they don't have the time to record and produce a podcast - so how will this impact their car projects?  You'll have to listen to find out.  Speaking of funny, John is a stand up comic!

Our podcast is geared towards the weekend warrior, the grassroots motorsports person.

We all work hard all week long and like to 'relax' at the track whether it's an 8 hour endurance race, an SCCA sprint race or an HPDE event - being at the track is where we like to be.

Listen and learn from others involved in our sport.  We'll interview other racers, coaches, track owners, product manufacturers and so many more!
