Our guest today needs no introduction. We're going to give you one anyway, because people deserve their flowers while they can still smell them.
Mike Cernovich is a father, husband, attorney, filmmaker and documentarian, social and political commentator, author, mindset coach, and modern American philosopher.
His Twitter following is among the most 'sticky' of metrics in the social media space. Mike is a prolific writer and thinker. And the engagement he receives with his ideas and opinions has time and time again broken the online paradigm.
Norm and Mike's relationship stretches back to Mike's days in law school. From that early mentorship has blossomed an unmistakable mutual respect and shared understanding of American society's most pressing challenges.
In what is sure to be the first in a series of legitimacy-themed discussions, Norm and Mike traverse the topics of Biden's recent comments regarding MAGA republicans, the contrasts between federal actions at Mar-a-Lago and the lack thereof on the other side of the political aisle, the politics of chaos that grips America, the paradox of January 6th, models of virtue and courage, and the Christian Orthodox perspective on matters of the soul.

One of the most hotly contested matters of local importance is that of land use and zoning.
Norm reports on a local member of a Connecticut community who has announced a lawsuit against a town following the town's denial of her land use proposal.
There is no hiding the burgeoning pressure being applied to local towns and municipalities as a result of the nationwide push for affordable housing.
Open Communities Alliance is the subject of this Connecticut community's story. The penultimate question centers around the individual's right to live in a manner satisfactory to them and the intersection of real property rights with more macroeconomic trends.
A number of listeners call in to discuss the topic. We'll build more on this based on the popularity.

Norm is back on the air to start the week and it is clear he missed his new home at WICC. He spends the opening minutes of his segment by reviewing the results of the local bluefish fishing tournament and the various methods fishing tournaments deploy to ensure a presumed winner did not become so through cheating.
Norm is then joined by W. Michael Boyer, the producer of Law and Legitimacy and North Carolina-based attorney, as he is at the top of every week.
Norm and Mike begin the recent headlines around student loan forgiveness. Under color of its executive authority, the Biden Administration has announced that it will waive up to $10,000 per borrower of federally backed student loans.
The two dissect the announcement and discuss the apparent moral flaw at the center of the Biden Admin's decision. A listener calls with a bit of nuance, adding a note that federally backed student loans are not dischargeable through bankruptcy. Norm proposes an idea that could have been adopted in conjunction with a forgiveness program but very clearly was not.
In the second hour, Norm and Mike get at the latest developments in the FBI's search of Trump's personal home in Mar-a-Lago. Mike asks Norm to explain the role of a "special master" in proceedings such as those present in the Trump case. Trump has motioned for the appointment of a special master to oversee the review of the documents seized pursuant to the FBI search of his home. Trump's legal team has also stated that many of the documents seized contain confidential and privileged information based on attorney-client privilege.
Mike takes care to point out the wonky state of affairs when it comes to the designation of documents as 'Top Secret' and 'Confidential' for matters with even a remote or tenuous connection to the President of the United States and the president's authority to declassify documents.
Norm and Mike close the segment with observation of what's happening at the border, and Governor Greg Abbot of Texas' decision to begin bussing illegal immigrants into blue states, namely New York.

We continue our week of LAL Classics with something very special from the archives: Norm's interview with legendary first amendment and trademark and intellectual property attorney, Ron Coleman.
Ron is not only a partner at the esteemed Dhillon Law Group, but he is the host of is own successful audio-visual venture, The Coleman-Nation Podcast.
The central question of this episode is this: can we long exist as a society if we lose our tradition in the roots of faith?
Norm took great pleasure in Ron's willingness to share his commitment to Talmudic scholarship and the insight to be found embedded in what he terms the "codified fact patterns" of scripture.
What is inspiration? What does it mean to be inspired? Is modern man inspired in his current state? Perhaps more importantly, can he be?
Listen as Norm and Ron catalogue the the nihilistic trajectory of the current era which is marked by a sort of anarchy, and opine on the existential importance of common conceptions of right and consensus to civilized, well-functioning society.
You'll also learn what a trademark is in less than 90 seconds and learn about Ron's representation before the Supreme Court of the United States in the Matal v. Tam trademark case that now defines legal precedent the country over.
Follow Ron on Twitter @RonColeman, his podcast account @ColemanNation1, and his trademark blog @Likely2Confuse.

While Norm attends to the defense of Alex Jones in the Connecticut defamation lawsuit, we'll rewind our listeners to episodes we self-select as 'classics' within the growing LAL library. Please take this opportunity to share an LAL Classic with someone you know. Help us grow, evolve, and continue pointing a light of truth at our common conceptions of right and common interest.
A crowd favorite guest is that of Jimmy Vallee, managing partner of Valhil Capital and an outspoken critic of what has become a very obvious set of conflicts of interest of bias within the upper ranks of the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC").

Norm is back! Well, at least for the moment. And he is joined as he is at the top of every week by W. Michael Boyer, producer for Law and Legitimacy and North Carolina-based attorney.
Mike begged Norm to give North Carolina a bit of the limelight this week, and Norm graciously acquiesced. On top of Mike's mind is the recent North Carolina Supreme Court decision in North Carolina Conference of the NAACP v. Moore.
In 2017, the Supreme Court of the United States held that 28 North Carolina districts had been previously gerrymandered in an unconstitutionally gerrymandered. In November 2018, more than 2 million North Carolinians voted to approve two (2) proposed constitutional amendments: (i) a photo I.D. requirement; and (ii) a cap on state income tax. These two amendments were among a total of six proposed state constitutional amendments. Each of those proposed amendments had been previously approved by a supermajority (60%) of the North Carolina legislature.
Because of that 2017 SCOTUS decision, the NAACP argued to the North Carolina Supreme Court that because 28 North Carolina political districts had been deemed unconstitutionally gerrymandered that the majority vote by North Carolina citizens to approve both amendments should be reversed.
The Court did not disagree, and remanded the case back to the trial court for specific findings of fact related to the role of legislators from the unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts.
Regardless of the outcome, however, the North Carolina Supreme Court's decision in this case is ad hoc at best. The NAACP's case has a flagrant flaw—one acknowledged by the North Carolina Supreme Court—and that flaw is that it has no conceptual answer to the question of why the Court is not looking at ALL acts taken by the legislators from the 28 tainted districts?
For Norm, it seems like yet another example of a gathering racial storm on the American horizon.
For Mike, he struggles with the principled direction of the Court's opinion in contrast to the hyper-partisan nature of the questions that the North Carolina citizens have answered. The genie does not go back in the bottle.
We'll continue to follow this case.
Norm and Mike entertain listener calls for the balance of the show. Norm entertains the possiblity that Liz Cheney might be a viable 2024 'centrist' presidential candidate, and Mike suggests that Dennis Rodman is as qualified as anyone.

This interview was originally published on October 2, 2021. With the defamation trial in Connecticut being ordered to proceed, this LAL Classics episode is a timely lookback at a rare, out-of-network interview with one of the most polarizing figures in American media and beyond.
Norm and and Alex sit down to discuss big tech and the modern threat to liberty. Do not be deceived—there is more to Alex than Sandy Hook. From time to time, Alex sounds prophetic.
Alex is a friend and client of Norm's. He is also a Texan, a Christian, and a patriot. He is perhaps the most widely recognized and salient voice in current political discourse, renown for his unfettered commitment to challenging the establishment orthodoxy.
We are humbled to present this episode once again. And we are invigorated by the notion that you—the listener—may have the courage to present it to someone you know, who may then display the courage to do the same.
Alex's perspective is that of a pro human future populist. We wind the clock back and discuss Alex's start in terrestrial radio nearly 30 years ago, the debut of Infowars, and the cost to Alex for his commitment to remaining an independent voice, especially over the last several years.
As noted in the opening, no matter how intelligent Norm fancies himself, sharing a room with Alex is always an exercise in humility. We trust that through this episode you will recognize that feeling, as Alex deconstructs with lightning quickness the history of world civilizations, John Lott's perspective on the American Revolution, Thomas Jefferson's conceptualization of tyranny, and the importance of the individual's discovery of dignity in the modern era.
This episode embodies the peak nobleness of American jurisprudence—there is no greater honor than advocating for the person who personifies the time-honored proposition that one need not agree with another's words in order to defend to the death their right to utter them.

While Norm goes into battle in defense of Alex Jones, we take a journey back just one year ago to Law and Legitimacy's interview with first amendment juggernaut, zealous legal advocate, and friend to both Norm and Mike, Marc Randazza (@marcorandazza).
Marc is the founder of Randazza Legal Group, which boasts offices in Las Vegas, Gloucester, and Miami — https://randazza.com/
This interview originally aired August 15, 2021.
Marc's resume speaks for itself. And as you will hear, Marc has been an advocate for individual sovereignty since grade school.
The interview starts by tracing Marc's path to prominence in First Amendment advocacy. You'll learn about Marc's genetic predisposition to fail at adapting to military discipline. You'll hear about the times he flunked out of undergrad. You might even be disgusted to know that Marc pursued journalism before pursuing a career in law.
But what you'll hear the most is Marc's unwavering commitment to the principles of free expression and the unlikely beginnings of a glittering career that began with his defense of an adult book store.
Unpopular political speech is the totality of Marc's bustling practice. So I ask him: what is the Bill of Rights? Why does the Bill of Rights matter?
And then Norm asks him what the biggest threats are to free speech.
Norm's answer—that the bottom has fallen out of pluralism in American society—will not surprise you. But neither will Marc's insight.
Listen in for a volley of ideas surrounding notions of obscenity, the social and therapeutic value of the marketplace of ideas, the impact of political tribalism on the curtailment of speech, and the likelihood that SCOTUS applies obscenity to political speech in order to create a "Hate Speech" exception to the First Amendment.
Marc is one of the good ones. We cherish working with him. And we cherish opportunities like this to capture the essence of the finest our sacred practice has to offer.

Norm opens the show with the announcement that the defamation suit against Alex Jones will proceed in Connecticut on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Norm is of course defense counsel to Alex Jones and will be in the arena with Jones as the court allows a jury to assess damages in a manner similar to that of the Texas jury.
Norm then reads a letter from a listener admonishing Norm to play fair when it comes to his criticism of President Donald Trump.
What is a strategic lawsuit against public participation and what does that have to do with Rachel Maddow? Norm unpacks the legal concept associated with speech and the creature of statute known as Anti-SLAPP law across the United States.
A listener calls in and poses the question: a lot of these shows are news and commentary—how is one to tell the difference? A great question, indeed. The lines between comedy, journalism, news, and commentary are quite blurred in current American media. How is a court to competenly analyze the 'totality of the circumstances' in any given case?
And how might the Connecticut court precedent impact the Jones defense in then coming days and weeks? Less than you might think. Recall that the court entered a default judgment against Jones for failing to comply with discovery orders. Thus, Jones' defense will not be permitted to defend against the merits of the plaintiff's defamation case against him; a finding of liability will simply be assumed. And so the jury will only decide the question of damages.
Still, Norm discusses the mechanics of defamation with a caller but stops short of giving any details of how he will defend Jones at trial out of respect for ethical considerations attendant to out of court statements.
What are the best used bookstores in Connecticut? Well, Whitlock Farm's Bookstore in Bethany, Connecticut, has been voted #1 in Connecticut. Listeners of LAL will recognize the name. That's Norm's store!

W. Michael Boyer, the producer of Law and Legitimacy and North Carolina-based attorney, joins Norm to begin the week.
Norm opens the show with a plea to Attorney General Merrick Garland to give the transparency to the American public that the AG is pretending to give. Where is the search warrant affidavit that was used to support the issuance of the search warrant as served and executed on President Donald Trump's personal home in Mar-a-Lago? Why is it that the American people have to rely on the ovations of the DOJ in an attempt to understand whether the rather unprecedented search and seizure of a former president is justified?
Mike agrees and offers a broader perspective from which to approach the issue. According to Mike, the AG has a real brand problem and this development will not do much to mitigate the fallout from his efforts to classify vocal parents at local school board meetings as domestic terrorists.
The duo take a brief respite to talk about how to better design bathtubs for old people before moving on to several other stories that are top-of-mind: the Viriginia Episcopal Diocese's resolution to give $10MM to the cause of reparations, the most livable cities in the United States, and Pleasure Beach!
