Norm only has half the time on this Friday Law and Legitimacy Live. That is the cost of being a full time and highly in-demand attorney. But he makes the most of the hour he has.
Norm opens the segment shadowboxing with Senator Richard Blumenthal's platform that appears to favor a federal police power and lack of accountability over the summer riots of 2020.
Norm spends time giving listeners a crash course the fourth amendment's guarantee against unreasonable searches and seizures. He also discusses the remedy of suppression, a prudential element of law which precludes the admission of evidence gathered pursuant to an unreasonable search.
But is the suppression remedy constitutional? Norm uses his knowledge of legal precedent and pragmatic intellect to persuade listeners that perhaps not.

Norm is on fire. At the same time as this Administration is making pushes to defund law enforcement all over the country, to restrict law abiding citizens access to firearms, presiding over historic levels of inflation and geopolitical turmoil, it somehow has found reason enough to fund the hiring of 87,000 new IRS agents. Not only that, but the new hires should be willing to use deadly force in the enforcement of their duties.
Norm takes calls from listeners to discuss this development and the broader ridiculousness affecting the United States in 2022.

Norm opens the second hour talking about donuts and the importance of spending locally.
Greg Dillon sticks around to discuss more about the FBI executing a warrant on President Donald Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago.
Norm recognizes that Donald Trump is one of the great spinmasters of all time. However, there is a legitimate question as to what the face of the warrant read and what the alleged scope to which the search was supposed to extend.
This question matters. The fruits of an involuntary discovery—that is, evidence that is discovered during a search that falls outside of the search's alleged scope—should theoretically be subject to a later issued warrant. In other words, the search of the safe as reported appears heavy-handed without the public's ability to determine whether the scope of the search was obviously pretextual.
Greg reports that many of his long-time retired FBI colleagues are skeptical of the nature of the Mar-a-Lago search warrant.
Norm digresses momentarily to discuss a letter he received from the IRS at the beginning of his bookstore ownership. The bottom line is this: every individual has a right not to incriminate themselves in an encounter with a government agent. How does this connect to the electoral process when the subject of a federal warrant is a former President who has strongly intimated a forthcoming run for a second term?

Rest in peace to Olivia Newton John. Norm opens the first hour of the Norm Pattis Show by honoring the memory of the 4-time Grammy Award winning singer songwriter.
Norm then attends to a listener call about Joe Ganim, the current Mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and the evidence presented by the FBI that eventually put Ganim in prison. The query: does Ganim deserve a second chance? In this case, the question is whether Ganim should be authorized to practice law again. Will the commissioners bite?
And what about Magical Fantasia? The Connecticut Post just gave it the most raving review.
The author of "The Thin Blue Lie", Greg Dillon, joins Norm to discuss the emerging phenomenon of retaliation in connection with whistleblower attempts to reveal FBI misconduct.
Norm uses the opportunity to discuss the fourth amendment to the United States Consitution and the 'particularity' requirement that precludes the government from engaging in unreasonable searches and seizures of citizens.
Of course, the impetus for this discussion is the recent news out of Florida that President Donald Trump's personal home at Mar-a-Lago was subject to a FBI raid supported by a warrant that has not yet made its way to the public.

Norm is joined for a double dose of W. Michael Boyer, the producer of Norm's podcast, Law and Legitimacy, and Greensboro, North Carolina-based business law attorney. Today? Norm reads a message a listener sent to Mike asking for the origin story of the Norm-Mike combo.
The two indulge. Mike gives his version of the shared history, detailing his own ignorance of Norm's celebrity at the point he began banging on the door for an introduction to Norm. Mike talks about the LinkedIn post that first made him aware of Norm's really poorly produced podcast and why he felt compelled to connect with Norm.
Norm returns the favor and gives his version of the shared history. Loyal listeners are already aware of Norm's total surprise that someone south of the Mason-Dixon line could form complete sentences, let alone have an honest compulsion to help a wretch like he.
Mike hangs out and the two take calls. The beloved Dorothy calls in along with many others. The two tackle the concept of road rage and spend the last half-hour digging deep into bail reform.

Norm has W. Michael Boyer join LAL Live for a double dose on this Tuesday show. Michael is the producer of Law and Legitimacy and business attorney located south of the Mason-Dixon line.
In the first hour, the duo grapples with the Washington Post's recent analysis of the results of a University of Chicago Insitute of Politics' recent poll (read here: https://apple.news/Ahiyn-5D-T8uRtAaQ8u9L9Q).
Norm is troubled by the growing sense of a lack of legitimacy in the country. Michael is a bit more measured with his analysis but maintains that the psychology of the current cultural moment is marked by an obvious decline in the sense of community in America. Michael believes that people now more than ever suffer from a feeling that they are not being seen an heard.
Valued listener, Dorothy, calls in to agree with Norm and Mike and to share how the onset of the pandemic and related policy implementation has affected her along these lines.
Norm takes a few more calls from listeners in the first hour as he and Mike discuss the myriad ways that the decline in community can be seen and sensed in modern America.
In the second hour, Norm makes a hard pivot to a discussion of reparations. He asked Mike to unpack what is going on in the city of High Point, North Carolina, with the formation of the One High Point Commission—a City Council created body funded and charged with the delivery of a report that will ostensibly dictate how reparations should be delivered to members of the African American community in High Point.
Mike talks about the 'laboratory approach' he is seeing take shape in the interested parties' approach to finding suitable legal ground on which to build the defensible case for reparations—race-based transfer payments.
This is a saga that will be revisited often as new updates are available.

Norm opens the show recapping his conversation with yesterday's guest, Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. Mayor Parris is certainly a climate change hawk, but Norm found his position a bit incomplete. That is especially so given the rather extreme commitment to coercing individual compliance with whatever science-inspired policy mandates that are Americans are likely to see tested in the coming years.
The Mayor mentioned Bill Gates as a trustworthy authority on the topic. Maybe that is okay. But it is a faith quite removed from that of a majority of the country who watched Gates influence American media during the height of government pandemic hysteria.
We'll stay on this.
What is pickleball? What is the appeal? Norm asks listeners to call in and explain.
Norm then shares a story of working within the brain trust for a political campaign back in the late 80's, and how his inability to parse the utter BS led to his resignation. The candidate ultimately lost. Coincidence?
The House Select Committee on January 6th continues to renege on its promises to show the American public real evidence of the Trump-led conspiracy to overthrow the Capitol during certification of the 2020 presidential election.
And was there an ambiguity in Vice President Pence's obligations with respect to the certification, or not? If not, why pass the recent bill clarifying the role thereof to eliminate doubt? If so, why was President Trump's interpretation of the law categorically unreasonable?
Norm shares his belief that the American identity is up for grabs by discussing the seditious conspiracy charges against Proud Boys Enrique Tarrio and Joe Biggs. Have you heard the recent revelations regarding the third unidentified Proud Boy that has come forth to call out the lack of evidence pointing to any cognizable plan with respect to J6? The feds are sitting on hundreds of hours of videotapes and recordings, but are curiously not relying on any of it in their pleadings.
What does this mean for the overheated rhetoric of the J6 Committee? No attempted coup. No link betwen Proud Boys and the President. Where's the beef?!
Norm spends the back half of the episode discussing the loss of communal trust, out of control violent crime rates, and growing homelessness around the country.

Norm opens the show reflecting on the Dobbs decision and Senator Ted Cruz's recent remarks concerning the future of other supposed 'rights' derived by the Court pursuant to its right to privacy jurisprudence in recent decades.
In particular, Norm is preoccupied today with the thought that the federal right to gay marriage will indeed be the next to be peeled back. But he is uncomfortable with that. Of course, the decisions are a mess. But they're not ones that Norm is ready to disband the republic over. And doesn't that seem like what's stake?
Norm reviews the function of the bill of rights—the first ten amendments to the constitution and the subsequent amendments ratified and added in later years. We don't want Justices making law based on what they think it should be; that's the role of Congress and our elected legislative officials.
Norm shares a rare story about being recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency back in the early 1980's and his trips to Manhattan and D.C. for a series of interviews. Hear why Norm probably flunked his polygraph exam.
One thing that stuck out was the insistence from the Agency that it know whether Norm had ever indulged in homosexual activities. Maybe it was the middle finger to the two-way mirror on his way down the hall. Maybe it was his palpable issues with authority. Whatever it was that kept Norm from becoming an Agency operator, we will never know.
The file is guarded by the Privacy Act.
Norm takes calls from listeners to discuss the likelihood that Dobbs forecasts some foundational shifts in our rights to privacy in the years ahead, and why Ted Cruz's comments are not so absurd all things considered.
America is currently playing with its social chemistry in ways that are having unexpected consequences.
Norm is joined in the second hour by R. Rex Parris, famed trial lawyer, Mayor of Lancaster in northern California, and longtime friend of Norm's.
Rex joins Norm to discuss his experience as a mayor and his view and approach to the climate change spectacle dominating our media headlines. Parris is keen on understanding how to create the first "net zero" city in the country by way of hydrogen technology and its innovations.
Are we really staring down an existential threat to human existence? Rex did not always believe this, of course. He would say "belief" is the wrong way to conceptualize it. According to Rex, the science about climate change is indisputable. What did Rex read? Norm asks for his listeners. Rex references a book by Bill Gates he found persuasive.
Norm and Rex discuss the recent Supreme Court decision regarding the EPA and the likely consequences.
