LCC Sunday Messages

Jesus. Is there any name so wonderful? Today, as we continue our journey through Colossians we will see the vital importance of the word of Christ dwelling in our lives as believers. His message changes everything.

Have you noticed? There’s a hint of spring in the air, which means it’s almost time for baseball. This season, many talented players will take to the field. Yet there is someone who, although he will not play a position, pick up a bat, or put on a glove, will have more influence and will hold more authority than all the players and managers. Who is that? The umpire. Did you know that the followers of Jesus are also to be governed by an umpire? This morning we’ll see who or what that is.

Over the last several weeks we have focused on the character of a believer in Jesus Christ. What should a believer look like? We are called to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient. We have talked about the power of forgiveness and how we, as a forgiven people, must forgive as well. We have seen the importance of love and today we will see that it is God's desire that we allow love to bind all these other attributes together in unity.

Valentine’s Day. Did you know that leading up to today’s heart-shaped holiday, approximately 450 million dollars will be spent on some 58 million pounds of chocolate in addition to the 150 million dollars on cards and gifts? So, is this what love is about, cards and chocolate? Or is there something more? Exactly what is this thing called love?

A forgiven heart is a free heart. A forgiven heart is one that extends forgiveness no matter what. A forgiven heart beats in sync wit the heart of Christ, showing love to all and forgiving even when it seems impossible. Today, as we continue our series in Colossians, let's look at the forgiven heart and see what makes it tick.

We've all been there. We have to attend an event that requires us to dress up and we often ask, "What am I going to wear?" Some may ask this on a daily basis as they prepare for work, while others simply put on their uniform and go. Did you know as Christians there are certain things we need to put on everyday? It's true. Today, as we continue in Colossians, we will see that God desires us to clothe ourselves, not in the material trappings of this world, but to put on the character and nature of a believer, indeed the character and nature of Christ. Time to get dressed!

In the verses from Colossians we will be examining this morning, the Holy Spirt speaks through the Apostle Paul to help us see that our every want, every drive and every passion is to be submitted to and governed by God’s rule and His kingdom authority. So, does God simply want to control us, or could this be His way of creating a masterpiece?

Well, Christmas break is over and the new year is underway. It's back to the daily grind for students and parents alike. But does it really have to be that way? We don't have to live in the patterns of the past, but in Christ we can experience His resurrection life hear and now. It's time to fix our minds on Jesus. It's time to come back to life.

Ever feel overwhelmed and like life is caving in on you? Maybe it’s time for a change, the kind of change that only Jesus can offer.

Well, Christmas has come and gone for another year. We trust that your Christmas was blessed and that Christ was the center of all things. However, for so many Americans, the Christmas season ends with a bang, and then come the bills. Some have a mountain of debt to pay off, hopefully before next Christmas. Then it all starts over again.

No one likes debt. And the greatest debt, one that we all owe or have owed, is the debt of sin. Yet there is GOOD NEWS! Today we will see that there is now no more debt for those who are in Christ Jesus!
