President Petersen served at the Gulfport Police Department, in Gulfport Mississippi, and retired as the Deputy Chief of Police in June 2022, after 25 years of service.  

Craig is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Craig also went on to attend Delta State University where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Social Justice and Criminology. Craig is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 245. 

Craig is active in the FBI National Academy Associates, where he is the Past President of the Mississippi Chapter. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the FBINAA Charitable Foundation. He resides in Gulfport, Mississippi with his wife of seven years, Michelle, and they have two sons, Ray and James, in college. 

President Petersen has been serving on the FBINAA National Board as the Section III Representative and Vice President.

It is a tragic truth today, but law enforcement line of duty deaths is an unfortunate reality that many organizations find themselves having to navigate. As we come out of National Police Week and the celebration of National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we wanted to take a closer look at the Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team and help identify ways to assist during those devastating events.

Les Kerr has served as Team Leader/State Coordinator for the Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team since 2010. As Team Leader, he oversees the regular activities of the team and works with as many as 20 volunteers on the team to assist law enforcement agencies and families with line of duty deaths (LODD). Les is the primary contact for agencies and families to ensure continuity and is responsible for introducing them to outside organizations that the Team partners with who are also there to assist them through this difficult time. He regularly presents to law enforcement associations and agencies on how best to prepare for a LODD and how the Team can assist them when tragedy strikes. Les has served in law enforcement and criminal justice for over 23 years with various agencies.

To successfully fight human trafficking, law enforcement needs a thorough understanding of its components, from traffickers’ tactics to the populations most vulnerable to them, the indicators law enforcement may encounter while on duty and the importance of using a victim-centered approach. 

Tune in to hear TAT speak about human trafficking, including how human trafficking intersects with the transportation industry, and news about “FREE” law enforcement training modules. In these modules, LEOs can learn more about human trafficking from law enforcement command staff, trafficking survivors, victims’ advocates, and TAT trainers.

Kylla Lanier is the Deputy Director and Senior Director of Public Sector Engagement for Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), a 501(c)3 organization that exists to educate, equip, empower and mobilize members of the trucking, bus and energy industries to combat domestic sex trafficking. She is responsible for implementation of vision, public sector engagement, training and national promotion of the organization. She speaks on human trafficking at conferences, in the media, universities, industry meetings and makes operational decisions for TAT. She is responsible for TAT’s global expansion, implementation of TAT’s programming, including the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) model and pertinent legislation in all 50 states and also conducts in-depth law enforcement trainings around the nation. She consults with international agencies that seek to replicate TAT’s model and instructs audiences on best practices for engaging with trafficking victims.

Ms. Lanier has been involved in the fight against human trafficking since 2007 when she helped initiate the state coalition against trafficking in Oklahoma. In addition to her human trafficking work, she has authored a book called My Life Crazy about her experiences working with gangs in El Salvador in the mid-1990s. She was also named Broken Arrow Public Schools District Teacher of the Year in 2011.

What started out being an incredible opportunity to build a much-needed public safety training facility/facilities has turned into a national topic of discussion and ongoing battle. I, like many of our listeners, truly only know what we see on the news and in social media. We are excited to hear from the front lines by Atlanta’s very own, Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum.

A native of southern Illinois, Chief Schierbaum joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2002 after serving 10 years with the Johnson County Illinois Sheriff’s Department. Chief Schierbaum has held numerous roles throughout his tenure within APD, working his way through the ranks in which he was appointed to be the 26th Chief of the Atlanta Police Department by Mayor Andre Dickens in October of 2022. Chief Schierbaum holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Herzing University and a master’s degree in public administration from Columbus State University. He is a graduate of the Atlanta Police Leadership Institute-Tier 5, and a graduate from PERF- Senior Management Institute for Police (session 76).

David T. Snively is a Program Manager at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) where he coordinates the Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC).  

David has worked in public safety for 16 years at every rank from Officer to Interim Chief of Police. He is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command and PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police. David is also a Master Instructor, Master PIO, and Use of Force Analyst, and he holds specialty instructor certificates in Use of Force, Firearms, TASER, ICAT, and Field Sobriety.

In addition to his professional experience and training, David is an affiliate instructor and PhD candidate at Georgia State University, where his research focuses on the impact of police agency education and training.
