Today's Khutbah by Ustadh Rayan Barker, was a reflection upon the Salaf- Our Pious Predecessors- from The Sahaabah (Companions of the Prophet Salllahualayhiwasallam) and those after them.

The lecture gave us an insight into how the Salaf strove towards improving themselves in the religion. The reminder gives us chance to reflect on ourselves and our actions; and how we should protect and preserve our religion and our hearts.

It is important to have fiqh of the religion. The meaning is to have proper understanding in the Religion

From the affects of not seeking knoweldge, is that it leads a person to ignorance and mistakes.

An example of making grave errors is from the story of The man who was in a state of janaaba, but was severely wonded. When he asked the people, they said you have to perform ghusl but when he performed it he died as a result.

So that reached the Messenger of Allah, who became severely Angry. And said "Will they not ask?! For indeed the cure for ignorance is to ask"... ask who? Ahlul ilm (the people of knoweldge).

Those who committed the atrocites of terrorist attacks, anywhere... then they fell into this error. They may have had some evidence, but they didn't understand the conditions, and more.

Ibn Al Qayyim said there are four scenarios when preventing evil:

1) That the evil is removed

2) That the evil is lessened

3) The evil is removed but replaced with that which is similar to it

4) The evil is removed but replaced with WORSE.

Ibn al Qayim said "The first two are legislated; but the third is a matter of ijtihaad for the ulema; and the fourth is haraam"

An excellent reminder to all parents and children delivered at the Saturday School of the Salafi Centre of Manchester.

Children are a blessing but also a test. And they are a responsibility when it comes to nurturing them. It is not sufficient that they are just told they are Muslim.. but rather the parent should make means to nurture them strongly and in detail... lest they become a fitnah for them.

Luqman advised his son to know about Allah: "oh my son, if there was anything the weight of a mustard seed hidden in rock in the earth Allah will bring it forth"

Luqman the wise taught his son about the knowledge and awareness of Allah. As parents, if we follow this; then our children will know about Allah and fear Him and be aware of Him.

And Luqman (the wise) encouraged his son in the prayer... telling him to establish the prayer. And he advised him to do the good and prevent evil. And the advice about the prayer is that it should be consistent... not irregular, like once a week or a month.

And so we should also teach the children the good and the evil; so our children can do the good and stay away from the evil. Then they will be able to continue this themselves in the future.

Then Luqman advised his son to be good with people. And not to turn away from the people in pride and haughtiness... but be humble and moderate in your walking. And he taught him not to be harsh with his voice, but kind and soft.

And so as parents we need to advise and help them rectify the hearts of the children... helping preserve them with good and so that the children are doing the things that are of benefit to them.

So they they are not wasting their time, in front of a TV, wasting their time away... playing games and such. And that whatever they learn in the madrasah (masjid) this continues in the home.

As parents we should affirm and revise the work the children learn. So the knowledge becomes part of their character and they are upon goodness. We should show them good manners so they will practice this outside he home as well.

Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 19 (01/04/17)

Chapter 13: Asking Allah by His Names and seeking refuge in Him by His names.

Hadith 1:

When the Prophet went to bed, he used to say, "Allhumma bismika ahya wa amut." And when he got Up in the mornings he used to say, "Alhamdu lillahi al-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilaihi-n-nushur."

• The names of the narrators of the hadith [advanced]

• What is the definition of death?

• Can the du’a above be recited when taking a nap during the day?

• If you woke up in the middle of the night – should the du’aa still be recited?

Hadith 2:

Allah's Apostle said, "If anyone of you, when intending to have a sexual relation (sleep) with his wife, says: Bismillah, Allahumma jannibna ashShaitan, wa Jannib ash-Shaitana ma razaqtana, Satan would never harm that child, should it be ordained that they will have one. (Because of that sleep)."

Ibn Qayyim mentioned that one of the Salaf mentioned, that a big shaytaan sees another skinny shaytaan and asks him why he is so skinny who replies. I am with a man, who always recites the dua for entering the house, so I stay outside, and every time he eats of drinks he says bismillah so I never eat or drink. The fat shaytaan says: I am with someone who never remembers to recites the dua on entering the house, so I enter the house with him, he never says bismillah when eating or drinking so I eat and drink with him. Ibn Qayyim adds, so when he has intimate relations with his wife, so I join in with him on that too.

Excellent lecture by Abu Iyad on sincerity and humility. A must listen lecture for anyone that wishes to remind himself of sincerity.

Every person knows his own intentions so the one who is sincere is gentle, so Allah will deal with him according to that. The one who is opposite to this Allah will deal with him accordingly.

So the one who seeks the life of this world

Excellent reminder by Abu Humayd Saalim.

We find in Surah al Baqarah that there is no doubt in this religion of Islaam amongst the believers. Allah describes those who are al-mutaqoon (the pious ones) as having certainty in the hereafter.

This talks goes throught the explanantion of the Hadeeth mentioned in the title wherein the Messenger of Allah (sallaahualayhiwaslaam) said: "We are more deserving of doubt than Ibrahim (alayhisalam). As he said "my Lord show me how you bring he dead to life." So Allah said "do you not believe?" So Ibrahim (alayhisalaam) replied "of course- but I ask so that my heart may be at rest."

The teacher explains that here Ibrahim (alayhisalaam) was seeking Yaqeen - Certainty - and that is of types: Certainty of knowledge, certainty of the eyes, certainty that comes through actualisation. Allah mentions it in Surah At-Takathur "Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things)"

Listen to the rest of the talk and you will learn that with "certainy and patience, leadership in the religion is acquired" (Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah).

The Statement of Laa illaha illah - is the Key to Paradise.

The Shahaadah is the foundation of al-Islaam, it is the first Pillar of islaam

Umar ibn al-Khataab said: "Islaam is built upon five things, The testification to Laa ilaa ha ilal Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah....."

So the virtue of the Shahaadah is indeed great and lofty, it enters people into islaam

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The best statement that I and all of the other Prophets have said is the testification of Laa ilaha illalah, to him belongs the dominion, to Him belongs all praise..."

The Prophet sent Mu'aadh ibn jabal to Yemen and instructed him to call the People of the Book to firstly Laa ilaha ilallah and is from the first of affairs in Islaam, it is the first matter a person calls to when giving Da'wah

The Prophet likewise instructed the dying folk to say Laa ilaa ha ilallah

It is from the highest part of Eemaan. Eemaan increases and decreases as Ahlus Sunnah believe

The Prophet said: "Eeman has 70 odd branches and from the highest part of it is Laa ilaaha illalah"

It was said to Wahb ibn Munnabih:

Isn't Laa ilaaha illalah the key to jannah? He said

"Indeed it is, however every key has teeth, so if you come with the key with the correct teeth then the door will open for you however if you do not have the correct key the door wil not open for you"

Thus if you come on the Day of Judgement with the Shahaadah fulfilling all of it's conditions then you will be successful Inshaa'Allah. The Shahaadah needs to be actualised throughout one's life and for it to not merely be a statement upon one's tongue

Shaykh Ubayd introduces his explanation to the treatise by mentioning:

- Shahaadah linguistically means a sign,

- Islamically the Shahaadah and it's conditions are matters for a muslim to know, that it is imperative
