안녕하세요.
KoreanClass101.com 여러분! 줄리아입니다.
한국에서는 5월을 ‘가정의 달’이라고 합니다.
어린이날, 어버이날, 스승의 날과 같은 가정사에 관련된 기념일이 5월에 집중되어 있기 때문입니다.
그 중에서 오늘은 5월 8일, 어버이날을 소개해 드리려고 합니다.
어버이날이 어떤 날인지 아시나요?
지금까지 힘들게 키워주신 부모님을 위한 날이지요.
학창시절에 어버이날이 다가오면 학교에서 ‘카네이션 만들기’를 했었어요.
빨간 색종이로 카네이션 꽃을 만들고 녹색 색종이로는 잎을 만들어서 붙이면 끝!
솔직히 말하면, 어떻게 만들었는지 지금은 정확하게 기억은 나지 않지만 나름 예쁘게 만들었다는 기억은 납니다.
저는 항상 4개를 만들어서 2개는 할머니, 할아버지께 드리고 또 다른 2개는 엄마, 아빠께 드렸었답니다.
어버이날이 되면 저희 부모님께서도 바쁘세요.
부모님의 부모님 즉 할머니, 할아버지를 위해 준비하셔야 할 것이 있기 때문입니다.
어버이날 아침에는 가족 모두 아침식사를 같이 했었어요.
그리고 직접 만든 카네이션을 할머니, 할아버지의 가슴에 꽂아 드렸어요.
할머니, 할아버지께는 “오래오래 건강하게 사세요.”라고, 부모님에게는 “건강하게 키워주셔서 감사합니다.”라고 말씀 드리면서요.
지금은 돌아가셨지만 손녀딸이 만들어 준 카네이션을 굉장히 좋아하셨던 기억이 나네요.
끝이 없는 부모님의 사랑을 받으면서 그런 마음을 알면서도 평소에는 “감사합니다”라는 말이 잘 안 나오는 것 같아요.
앞으로는 자주 말씀 드려야겠어요.
“건강하게 키워주셔서 감사합니다.”
“사랑합니다.”

Parents' Day
Hello.
Everyone in KoreanClass101.com! This is Julia.
In Korea, May is called "A Month of Family."
It is because the family-related holidays such as Children's Day, Parents' Day, and Teachers' Day are all in May.
Of these, I would like to introduce the Parents' Day, on May eighth.
Do you know what the Parents' Day is?
It is a day for your parents, who have worked hard to raise you until now.
Back in school, we made carnations when Parent's day came.
After making carnation flowers with red paper and leaves with green paper, we glued them.
Then we were done!
To be honest, I don't remember exactly how I made them, but I remember that I made them as beautifully as I could.
I always made four.
Then, I gave two to my grandmother and grandfather and the other two to my mother and father.
On Parents' Day, my parents were busy as well. It is because they had things to prepare their parents, also my grandparents.
On Parents' Day, my whole family used to have breakfast together. And then I pinned the carnations that I made on my grandparents' clothes as I wished to my grandparents a lucky saying, "Please live long and healthy," and to my parents "Thank you for raising me to be healthy."
Even now after my grandparents have passed away, I still remember they loved the carnations their granddaughter had made for them.
Although I have accepted the boundless love of my parents and I know that, it seems difficult to say "thank you" to them. I will tell them often from now. "Thank you for raising me to be healthy." "I love you."
