Nadia Comăneci este o fostă gimnastă română, care a obținut trei medalii de aur la Jocurile Olimpice de Vară din 1976 și două medalii de aur la Jocurile Olimpice din 1980.
A fost prima gimnastă care a obținut 10 absolut, ceea ce înseamnă că a avut un program fără deduceri de punctaj, la un eveniment olimpic.
În prezent, este una dintre cele mai ilustre gimnaste ale lumii.
Academia „Laureus World Sports” a inclus-o în lista „Sportivii Secolului”, iar Comitetul Internațional Olimpic i-a acordat de două ori cea mai înaltă distincție, „Ordinul Olimpic”, în 1984 și 2004.
Este unica persoană care a primit această distincție de două ori și, de asemenea, a fost cea mai tânără persoană care a primit-o vreodată.
Comăneci s-a născut în 1961 și a început să practice gimnastica de la vârsta de șase ani.
La vârsta de doar șapte ani, a fost selectată de antrenorul preeminent de gimnastică Bela Karolyi pentru Școala sa experimentală de gimnastică. Acesta a observat-o în timp ce Nadia făcea roata, în timpul pauzei, împreună cu una dintre prietenele sale.
Prima sa competiție publică a fost Campionatul Național Român, pe când avea opt ani. Nadia reușea să se claseze pe poziții de frunte la majoritatea competițiilor la care lua parte.
La 14 ani, Nadia Comăneci a devenit o stea a Jocurilor Olimpice de Vară din 1976, obținând un scor de 10 perfect pentru programul său la paralele inegale, probă obligatorie în concursul pe echipe, devenind prima româncă care a câștigat toate probele de gimnastică la Olimpiadă și care s-a întors acasă cu patru medalii de aur.
În timpul carierei sale, Comăneci a creat propria sa mișcare de coborâre de la paralele inegale.
În prezent, coborârea omonimă îi poartă numele în Codul de Punctaj pentru perioada 2013-2016 pentru competițiile feminine.
Ea s-a retras din activitatea competițională în 1981 și, în prezent, este implicată în foarte multe opere de caritate în întreaga lume.

Nadia Comaneci is a former gymnast from Romania who garnered three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics and two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
She was also the first female to receive a perfect score, which signifies a routine with no deductions, in a gymnastic event at the Olympics.
Today she is one of the world's most illustrious gymnasts.
The Laureus World Sports Academy named her on its list of Athletes of the Century, and the International Olympic Committee gave her its highest award, the Olympic Order, in 1984 and 2004.
She is the only person to receive it two times and also was the youngest person to receive it.
Comaneci was born in 1961, and she began doing gymnastics when she was six years old.
At only the age of seven, she was selected to go to an experimental gymnastics school run by preeminent gymnastics coach Bela Karolyi, who had observed her and one of her friends doing cartwheels during recess.
Her first public competition was the Romanian National Championships when she was eight years old, and she placed high at nearly every major competition she partook in.
When she was fourteen years old, she was a star at the 1976 Summer Olympics, winning a perfect ten in her uneven bars routine for the team compulsory part of the competition, becoming the first Romanian to win the all-around title at the Olympics, and taking home four gold medals.
During her career, Comaneci created her own signature release move from the uneven bars.
Today the eponymous release move is named for her in the 2013 to 2016 women's Code of Points.
