  • The Truth of you by Iain s. Thomas
Today's episode was created while on the way to work - but it's still beautiful. It's still lovely. And of course we are reading the latest release by Iain s. Thomas because of course we can!

  • Sunflower Maya Marlow-King

Today's episode explores Sunflower volume 1 by Maya Marlow-king. I love the way this collection explores not only the emotional scale, but also makes space to start some important conversations. I also like the way that there's a constant reference to yellow and sunflowers, the blooming and the wilting.

  • All Our Wild Wonder - Sarah Kay

Today's episode is accomplishing a few things at once: firstly we are celebrating Women's history Month because Sarah's voice is incredible for that. Secondly we are talking about project voice and it's importance to the poetic community as well as youth in various communities. And thirdly I'm letting you all know that there are project voice classes and seminars you can sign up with to more deeply and authentically celebrate World Poetry Month in April!

  • Duel by Brianna Florian

This author is local to where I am, I happened upon the book in a local newly opened book and coffee shop. It was the spark of a great discussion with one of the workers and I am glad to have added a copy to my collection.

If you'd like to add it to yours as well check out: https://www.amazon.com/Duel-Brianna-Florian/dp/1976250846/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_pb_opt?ie=UTF8

  • Boomie Bol's Paper Heart

For today's episode it felt so incredibly right to pick up Paper Heart by Boomie Bol - and even though this collection was gifted to me, it has become a staple in my collection and my go to gift for other life livers. Anyway, this collection is an incredible representation of the human condition and I'm thrilled to be able to share pieces of it with you here today.

  • International Women's Day 2021

So to celebrate this incredibly important and powerful day, I wanted to showcase a variety of women's voices throughout time in poetry. I wanted to also showcase voices from a variety of walks of life and I hope I accurately represented these stunning women for all they have done (and their work continues to do on behalf of them). Happy International Women's day and thank you so so so much for joining me on today's episode of Learning To Fly

  • I Write to Keep me Sane (Revisited)

It didn't feel right to have a month full of women's voices (with very few exceptions) this month and not include Carolyn L. Robinson. She has seven incredible collections, they are so good I read all 7 in one sitting one night. ANYWAY this is revisiting and reading (in no particular order) poems from her most recently published collection I Write to Keep Me Sane. And I love this one. Please enjoy and consider supporting or following her on whatever social media platforms you prefer!
