Following Christ in baptism is a matter of obedience to Him. We understand that the water does not save us, no more than our words when we confess Christ save us, but it is our outward obedience of the inward work of Christ. We believe in Christ with our heart, we confess Him with our mouth, we follow His instruction into the baptismal waters and we rise in the newness of His life.

We experience growing pains — rapid growth that sometimes makes us feel like we are being crushed. We often don’t even fully understand the cause but we know the pain is real. So very real.  If you feel a little prick, ache or sharp pain when you see certain things happening in our world, there’s a reason for the pain. It’s probably pointing you toward building God’s kingdom so that we all may grow up and mature into the one body of Christ

We are now in Christ, and His glory and power is at work in us and through us. This is how we co-labor with Him. We have been studying our call to co-labor with Christ. Today, we'll end this study by looking at what it means for us to be in Christ and for Christ to live in us.

We are called to work in co-operation with God, by the power of His Holy Spirit, in establishing the Kingdom. Paul addresses the fact that in the early church some were claiming to follow one man or another, but Paul was making it clear that we all follow Christ. He establishes men to extend His Kingdom but only God can bring growth or give increase.

God has chosen to work in and through humanity in this world. This is the amazing thing. It would seem God has limited Himself by depending on us. Yet, Paul tells us that God will be glorified and His greatness made clear by the work that He does through mankind. We have been saved by the grace of God and empowered by that same grace to co-labor with Christ on the same mission that He was on while He was among us. That is why it is called the great commission.
