We are in the midst of the Minnesota State Fair and have a very special guest to mark this special occasion. The Legacy Matters crew welcomes photographer RJ Kern, chosen to create this year’s Commemorative Artwork for the Minnesota State Fair and creator of the “Best of the Best” series which chronicles the prize winning animals from 2018. RJ is the first photographer to achieve such honor and it is clear his pride and craftsmanship shines through in the final piece.
Listen to hear the inside tricks behind this magical image, along with an informative lesson on the history of photography and animal husbandry. RJ has traveled the world documenting animals in their domestic habitats, creating images of stark, ethereal beauty. He finds beauty in the everyday, compiling an impressive catalogue of work now on display at the Burnet Fine Art & Advisory in Wayzata, MN (thanks for the private tour RJ!) and in such esteemed publications as National Geographic.
Learn more about RJ’s work with the Minnesota State Fair.
Learn more about RJ on his website.
Take a peek at his book, “The Sheep and the Goats”, both commemorative edition and hard cover.
And, visit his work at the Burnet Gallery.
You can find him at @kernphoto on Instagram.

A new twist on Legacy Matters today. Sam, Jim and Sarah sit down with author Lester Black to read excerpts from his short story, “Running Dry”, and discuss the stories overarching themes of love and loss. What constitutes truth and commitment in a marriage - and how do life’s unexpected moments shape the future of a couple? Heavy issues - and we by no means solve them - but are slowly and intricately absorbed into the lives of Bill and Angela in Lester’s story.
Lester Black is an apt pseudonym for a very talented local writer who wishes to remain in the shadows! We let his work speak for himself. You can read the complete story by downloading the PDF below.

How do we share our story today - our life legacy - in an age of transitory communication via jumbled platforms? If we are not being sold something, our information is being sold to someone. Honoring precious memories deserves a better home, thus sparking the creation of the Andelin App. The Legacy Matters crew formed with this goal in mind back in late 2017. How can we create a safe, private, beautiful and elegant space for memories to live in perpetuity.
Join us as Sam, Jim and Sarah chat about the Andelin App, with some guidance on how to make best use of the platform. Like any new technology, it takes a bit to become familiar with the mechanics. But you will find the app a familiar friend in many respects.
We invite you to download the Andelin App and try for yourself. Have a question, concern or suggestion? Need help navigating? Get in touch and we will be sure to get back to you. Email us at [email protected].
The Andelin App is available via Google Play and on the App Store.
