In Hebrews 12:1–2, we are called to run that race with perseverance, laying aside every weight that hinders us and fixing our eyes firmly on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

During the Great Tribulation as Jerusalem was surrounded bythe Roman legions, there was a surge in false prophets and messiahs, some of whom were able to perform the kind of signs and wonders that deceived the masses to trust in false hope. Jesus warned His disciples so that they would lotlikewise be led astray.

What was crucial for that first generation of Christian remains important for us today. We must not place our trust in false hope.
