Deck to Try? Love your show

 

Hey Fellas! I just wanted to let you know that I have appreciated your show the last year as I have gotten more into Hearthstone. I still play casually as a new dad and full time work as a Scientist in an Underground Lab in South Dakota.

I just wanted to share a Druid deck that i have been loving to play! I started with the Whizbang shell of Trees are Friends then changed it with some new cards and epics/Legendaries that I had in my collection. Maybe Espo could use this to help with his climb to Golden Druid, i am working on it myself. I have been able to climb from Rank 7 to 3 using this list! Hope you like it.

A New Year Bash

The party is here! Work together with another player to decorate the tavern and kickoff a New Year’s party!

How it Works

No deck creation this time, you get to play as either Valeera the Rogue or Malfurion the Druid – chosen at random when the game starts.

If either of you get low, try and toss some heals out. Use them wisely!

The game ends when one of you die. Don’t die!

Phase 1

Your initial goal is for you and your partner to decorate the party. You do this by using your Hero Power to add decorations.

The Hero Power uses all your currently available Mana to go towards the decorations. In total, you must spend 25 mana together.

In this phase, Party Crashers (4 mana 3/5 with Taunt) will spawn each turn. They attack face so deal with them.

Once the party has been decorated, a Boss (Pinata Golem) will spawn. He cannot be targeted by spells.

Don’t use all your hard removal in this phase. The crashers are pretty easy to deal with and don’t hurt as hard as they do in Phase 2!

Phase 2

The boss spawns! He has 85 Health that you must take out together with your partner.

Your hero power has changed! You can now spend 2 mana to deal 3 damage to the boss.

The Party Crashers continue to spawn but now.. now they gain +2/+2!

Do not under any circumstance fill your board. You want to have a slot open, otherwise, you get board cleared to make room the boss.

Sometimes you will receive a treat when attacking the Pinata. These can help you draw cards, heal, or destroy Party Crashers.

There is an AoE that goes out which deals 2 damage to everything that isn’t a Party Crasher. Seems to happen either early on or later.

Hi guys!

I emailed you about daughters on your podcast being neat for me since I know have a daughter awhile back. My daughter is now 9 months, so it will be awhile for her to play, lol.

So I have been trying to get ahead on gold each expansion over the last few years and did similar to what you talked about on latest episode.

My name is also Benjamin, so apparently we are savers, lol.

Here is what I have at the moment after started to save first couple of weeks of witchwood:

7,500 gold

18,000 dust

I also want to share with ESPO that I crafted my first golden and it was a legendary during first few days of witch wood: Shudderwock!

I too will dust any goldens that I have 2 of standard ones, but since I usually have a lot of dust I play with the golden until I want to craft.. They are my extra stash of dust.

Anyway, I think you should craft the golden legendary… I am thinking I may also… 18 random fully golden decks? If that’s not fun guaranteed, what is?

Congrats on a great show!  I’ve been listening for a while (since Old Gods) and really enjoy your focus on the “just for fun” side of Hearthstone.  It took me a while to figure out what kind of Hearthstone player I was. I am very competitive. I read up on the meta, study the best decks, and have a pretty decent win rate, but I don’t spend enough time in the game to hang in the “rank 4 – Legend club”.  So, I guess that makes me a casual player? I love the solo content, the tavern brawl A.K.A “Espo Mode”, and just discovering cool interactions and combos that I can share with friends. Your fun and casual personalities really fit this niche well. Keep up the good work!

I do have a suggestion, however.  I think it would be great if you took 5-10 min at the end of each episode to do a Top 5 list.  (What are your top 5 classic legendaries, top 5 witchwood art, top 5 battlecries, top 5 dungeon run encounters, etc….)  You could tease which top 5 you will be doing next week and let the community chime in. You could each count down your top 5 and then maybe share the communities top 5.

This would give us more of your personality (fun and casual !!), give us something to anticipate for the next show, and give the community another thing to discuss during the week.

New Rule Changes (source)

Ghostly Charger – losing Beast tribe

Ixlid, Fungal Lord – losing Elemental tribe

Shadowboxer – Only deals damage when a minion is healed, not any character. (will be disenchantable for full dust for two weeks after patch goes live)

Shifter Zerus, Molten Blade, and Shifting Scroll, now all lose enchantments when they transform.

Voodoo Doll’s curse is removed on a minion if it transforms.

Voodoo Doll’s curse is also removed if the Voodoo Doll itself is silenced or the minion with the curse is silenced.

Copied cards will get all enchantments the original card has unless the card is in the graveyard.

Celebrate Fire Festival by taking on two Elemental Lords! What they lack in teamwork they make up for in destructive power!

You will earn a Classic Card Pack for participating in this Tavern Brawl!

It’s a brand new Brawl.

It’s a Build Your Own Deck Brawl. You pick a class and create your own 30 cards decklist.

Some of the cards, such as Ragnaros the Firelord and Alexstrasza are banned.

The Brawl’s format is Wild.

You fight against both Elemental Lords. You start with the fight against Ragnaros, and once you get him down to 50 health, it switches with Ahune. Then they switch around a few more times.

You don’t have to win the game to get a pack.

Ragnaros’ Fire Festival

How it Works

You’ll have to build your own deck.

At the start of the game, a Mini-Rag will spawn on the side of player 2. It has 2/3 stats and is Immune.

When your turn is over, the following happens:

Mini-Rag launches 1 damage missiles at your side. The amount of missiles shot is equal to his attack value.

Mini-Rag will gain attack value equal to the number of minions killed by him.

Mini-Rag will switch sides of the board and the next player can now play as normal.

When Mini-Rag kills minions, your overall score increases which unlocks Fireworks! See below section “Firework Unlocks”.

The end of game screen will give you a congratulatory popup indicating how many minions Mini-Rag killed that game and overall during the brawl event.

Fireworks Unlocks

The wow emote has been upgraded! Once you’ve killed a certain number of minions during the Brawl, your wow emote will shoot Fireworks off!

8 Minions Killed – Level 1 Fireworks

30 Minions Killed – Level 2 Fireworks

60 Minions Killed – Level 3 Fireworks

Omega Defender – 4 mana, 2/6 Epic Neutral minion, Taunt. Battlecry: If you have 10 Mana Crystals, gain +10 Attack. (V: Great card for Arena, Shudderwock and Ramp Druid decks. Also would excel in wild with C’Thun and Shudderwock. Oh and with Lady in White)

Electra Stormsurge – 3 mana, 3/3 Shaman Legendary Elemental minion, Battlecry: Your next spell this turn casts twice. (V: Probably an auto-include in just about every Shaman deck. Imagine a Shudderwock Shaman deck with this for double activating Far Sight, Healing Rain or Lightning Storm. Keep in mind, that it will double overload. Just imagine this plus Bloodlust, which adds +6 Attack to EVERY friendly minion for 8 mana.)

Myra’s Unstable Element – 5 mana, Legendary Rogue spell, Draw the rest of your deck. (V: Incredibly powerful AND incredibly dangerous. Togwaggle synergy (Togwaggle: Swap decks with your opponent. Give them a ransom spell to swap back.)  Maybe with Dollmaster Dorian (Whenever you draw a minion, summon a 1/1 copy of it.).

Spider Bomb – 3 mana, Hunter Mech 2/2, Magnetic. Deathrattle: Destroy a random enemy minion. (V: Mixed bag. Depends a lot on what else we see with this expansion. In Wild, it has more functionality due to more Mechs and ways to utilize deathrattles more.)

Biology Project – 1 mana, Druid spell, Each player gains 2 Mana Crystals. (V: You get 2 full mana crystals, that you can take advantage of right away. However you give the same to your opponent. Will be interesting to see how this works with all the released cards.)

Stargazer Luna – 3 mana, 2/4 Mage Legendary minion, After you play the right-most card in your hand, draw a card. (V: Can you say, Miracle Mage? More useful in a Burn Mage type deck versus Big Mage. I’m curious how this will work with Echo cards. Does the Echo card end up as the right card?)

As a follow up to our recent explanations regarding our refund policy, we would also like to clarify that minor consistency changes—such as name changes, templating updates, art updates, or Type changes that do not significantly affect the power level of a card—will not offer a full Arcane Dust refund. In this case, since power levels remain essentially unchanged, we will not offer a full Arcane Dust refund.

How much are you willing to sacrifice for power? All your spells will cost health instead of mana!

How it Works

You’ll get to build your own Standard deck for this brawl.

You can cast spells whenever you want, provided that you have enough health. This makes for interesting turn 1 potential.

If you lower the mana cost of a spell through a card like Sorcerer’s Apprentice, it will also cost less health to cast.

If you can make your hero go Immune, you won’t take any damage from casting spells, making them completely free.

* Do you have any plans for new emotes or emote customization?

 

We have added special hero emotes for events like the fireworks in last year’s Fire Festival and also recently updated emotes for mirror matches. We want to keep doing similar things! We don’t have any plans to change the base emotes though.

 

* Are there any updates on future game modes, like a co-op or multiplayer feature, 2 vs. 2, or 2 vs. AI?

 

We’re always experimenting with different ways of doing these in Tavern Brawls and Fireside Brawls, and plan on continuing those experiments at some point in the future. The challenge for us is to really figure out what makes them fun and interesting. The few of our crazy ideas that survived our play tests have gone on to become some of our best brawls and single player content. And let’s not forget the upcoming in-game tournament mode—the ability to use multiple decks in an online tournament with a group of friends is very appealing to us.

 

* Will you be looking at making more minion Types like Kobolds or Spirits?

 

Some of our best theme decks are built around minion Types. Elemental decks, Murloc decks, Mech decks all hinge on the minion Type and are a great starting point for deckbuilders. However having too many minion Types can cause collisions, where one card looks like it could be several different types. If you see a Demon wearing an eye-patch, do you expect it to be Pirate or Demon? What about a mech that looks like a bear? Would that be a Beast or a Mech? We run into these issues a lot, and they will come up more if we add more Types to the game. We have looked at adding new Minion Types before, such as when we playtested a Cultist minion Type when we designed C’thun for Whispers of the Old Gods, but this is not something that we have plans for just yet.

Hearthstone Tavern Talk – New series of posts for communicating with the community on the forums.

Are there any additional rewards for players who have achieved a Golden Hero in every class?  No plans for more.  They want new features or rewards to be obtained by 10% or more of players.  Only a few players have all 9 Golden Heroes.

Do you have any changes planned for the new player experience? We have some small ladder changes that we would like to do at some point, specifically targeted at new players when they first enter the game. The change will add some additional ranks above rank 25 that new players can play through before having to play more invested players. There will only be forward advancement through those ranks, so even if they lose, no one will be able to drop back down.

What are your thoughts on alternate card art or reprints of cards from earlier sets?  Alternate card art is something we have avoided because players almost always use art to recognize a card and instantly know what it does. Good gameplay is very important to us so we have avoided adding multiple pieces of art for a single card. Reprints are something that we have discussed in the past, but we would want to do so only after careful consideration. We don’t have any specific plans for this in the near future.

They like 2 Legendaries per class because it allows them to take classes in two different directions.

Creating powerful cards like Drakonid Operative right before a set rotates is ok if the power level of the card in Standard will decrease.

The first set of a new year is where they want to experiment the most with a lot of archetypes.

There aren’t currently any plans to create more cards that require Odd or Even deckbuilding.

There is a mailing list at Blizzard for other people within the company to pitch card design ideas. Toki, Time-Tinker’s effect came from this list.

How it Works

Any remaining slots in your deck get filled with Shadow Reflection.
