The Blizzard Battle.net desktop app has been updated with a new Social Tab, giving Discord like features for groups, profiles, avatars and gifting. The gifting feature allows you to send in-game gifts to your friends. To celebrate the feature, Blizzard gifted a free Classic Hearthstone pack.

Fireside Gathering ‘kerfluffle’ update from Blizzard

There are a few issues that are occurring.

Appearing offline in the Blizzard Battle.net client affects Fireside Gathering functionality. As a work around, you should set your status to Online before participating.

Players on PC have been appearing randomly at some Taverns without physically being there.

Taverns appear as having “0” or an incorrect number of Patrons. This is due to infrastructure capabilities, which results in Tavern service outages.

Blizzard is working to resolve these issues and hope to have improvements available soon.

If you see suspicious events, click the Report It link at the bottom of every event page.

Players that abuse the system may face account penalties, ranging from suspension of their ability to create, participate in, or gain rewards from Fireside Gatherings, to action against their account. Examples, would be creating events with inapropriate names or holding events at inaccessible locations. Also actions will be taken against users found to be maliciously impacting services at Fireside Gatherings or Taverns with the intent to ruin the experience.

Tortollans are coming to World of Warcraft! These are the little totem creatures that were unique in Hearthstone. WowHead datamined a new Warcraft pet called Tottle, the baby Tortollan.

You get to choose a costume to wear on your first turn. This gets rid of your Stormwind Champions and draws you a new hand.

Witch Costume – Your hero power is Witchcraft. Your deck is based on spell synergies.

Pirate Costume – Your hero power is Conscript. Your deck is based on pirate synergies.

Cat Costume – Your hero power is Sense Weakness. Your deck is based on beasts and kitty things like Claw.

Each deck is predetermined.

Hallow’s End – October 24 – November 6

Note: If you have an Arena run in progress when Hallow’s End begins on October 24, then it will be retired and you’ll receive the normal rewards for the number of wins you achieved and a free Arena ticket. In the hours just before the beginning and conclusion of Hallow’s End on October 24 and November 6, it will temporarily be impossible to purchase a new Arena ticket.

Mechanics Update

Changed some underlying rules to prevent Wild Pyromancer from triggering off of Mindgames, and Djinni of Zephyrs from triggering off Entomb. See this update for details. (update)

Fireside Gatherings have their own game menu

Friends list options are now bundled into a sub-menu

Spells that are canceled by Counterspell will now trigger any “Whenever you cast a spell” and “After you cast a spell” effects.

Lord Jaraxxus no longer triggeHers Repentance, Sacred Trial, and Snipe.

Unlicensed Apothecary now reads “After you summon a minion, deal 5 damage to your hero.” It will no longer activate from any Evolve effects.

It is no longer possible to cancel Choose One cards before the choices appear, resolving issues where the Choose One effect could be canceled too easily.

Hearthstone’s engine is updated to Unity version 5.6

Animations for Mimic Pod, Chromaggus, Shifting Shade, Ghastly Conjurer, and Cutpurse should no longer have a pause.

Mana-cost reductions on cards such as Dragon’s Breath, Solemn Vigil, Everyfin is Awesome, and Obsidian Shard will now apply after all other mana cost changes, such as the effects from cards like Naga Sea Witch.

Arena updates

Vicious Fledgling can no longer be drafted in the Arena

The first two picks in an Arena draft are no longer more likely to include synergy-based cards.

Small appearance rate adjustments have been made to a number of cards.

Have Amazon (Twitch) Prime? In November you will get a Golden Classic Pack, which contains 5 golden cards. The pack will be available from Nov 6 until Jan 9. It does not follow any pity timer rules.

Hallow’s End will be visiting Fireside Gatherings between October 9 and November 5. They will have a new hero, Nemsy Necrofizzle, if you play at any Fireside Brawl starting on October 17th. And she will continue to be available after Hallow’s End, ends.

Battle.net Updates (in beta)

You can now appear OFFLINE

New Social tab allows you to create and join groups. Groups can have text AND voice chat

Profiles allow you to add social information, an avatar and an about me.

In the Battle.Net client, click on Blizzard in the top left corner and select Settings. In the menu on the left, click on Beta at the bottom and follow the instructions. You can switch back at any time.

BlizzCon schedule has been released. Hearthstone’s panel will be right after WoW’s.

Mike Donais talks Frozen Throne’s impact

Meta

Lots of variance during the Frozen Throne meta. All nine classes are viable and doing pretty well.

It’s important that players feel comfortable playing their favourite classes and doing well with it.

Spreading Plague seemed weaker internally. “On the ladder you see a higher representation of aggro, and Spreading Plague is very good against aggro. When we’re playtesting we play a wide variety of decks. We play control, midrange, combo and aggro—and in that [more diverse]environment Spreading Plague actually seems a lot weaker, so that was probably part of the deal there.”

Specific cards

Barnes causes big swings and high variance in an unfun way. It will eventually rotate out though.

Raza the Chained and Shadowreaper Anduin were potential targets for nerfs.

Ultimately, Raza+Anduin is really hard to play and Mike thinks the power level of the deck is pretty good.

Oktober Brawl Team Light continues to be the less popular team.

Espo Mode:

Encounter at the Crossroads 7th appearance.  Most repeated Brawl.  Great for new players.

Some interesting stats for you:

Out of 119 Brawls, we’ve seen 67 repeats.  (56% of Brawls)

In 2017 we’ve seen 39 so far, 22 have been repeats (56%)

Getting Better

It’s been about a week since the changes went live and how has the Meta reacted?

We’ve seen a bit of a shift that was quite predictable, noticeably the decks that had cards that were nerfed, falling out of the ranks.

Decks of note, would be:

Highlander Priest (with Kazakus and Raza)

Token Shaman

Mid-Range Hunter

Jade Druid has hung on a little but the Token Druid and Ramp Druid decks have fallen like rocks. We are also seeing some more play of Zoolock, Pirate Warrior and Tempo Rogue as they include Prince Keleseth. Having him drawn early in the game, makes those hard to deal with since he adds +1/+1 stats to one’s entire deck.

Balance Patch 9.1 went live

Innervate – Now reads: Gain 1 Mana Crystal this turn only. (Down from 2)

Fiery War Axe – Now costs 3 mana. (Up from 2)

Hex – Now costs 4 mana. (Up from 3)

Murloc Warleader – Now reads: Your other Murlocs have +2 Attack. (Down from +2 Attack, +1 Health)

Spreading Plague – Now costs 6 mana. (Up from 5)

Lord Jaraxxus is one of their favorite cards. For a long time they wanted to make more cards like him.

They didn’t like the weird interactions with Lord Jaraxxus, so they needed to design a new card type to keep it a clean experience.

Early on they decided to not change your health total and to give you armor to help make them more playable.

Sometimes cards don’t change much from their early design other than numbers. This was not the case with Death Knights – they all changed.

Valeera the Hollow’s hero power was once “Discover a secret from any class”.

An early Deathstalker Rexxar hero power was “Deal 2 damage to all enemies”.

Zombeasts originally were able to get minions from any class. “Getting some of the warrior taunts was just a bit too weird”.

Deathstalker Rexxar had a Battlecry that was to craft and summon a Zombeast.

They like how Bloodreaver Gul’dan will grow in strength over time as more Demons are added to the game.

An early hero power from Shadowreaper Anduin saw him resurrect a random friendly minion that died during the game.

Shadowform working with Shadowreaper Anduin was a consideration.

Originally, Frost Lich Jaina gave your Elementals in-deck, on the field, and in your hand +2/+2.

“It was a bit weird, because sometimes you would summon elementals later and they wouldn’t get the +2/+2”

Another version of Frost Lich Jaina saw her summoning 2 Water Elementals.

An early hero power from Frost Lich Jaina saw scaling based on killing minions. Each time it killed a minion, it would gain an extra damage. It did not summon the Water Elemental.

HCT America’s Summer Playoffs had numerous issues over the past weekend. Blizzard addresses the issues.

Many of the venues experienced multiple DDoS attacks and equipment malfunctions that disrupted the tournament.  Some players were required to restart games due to the issues. Some argue that the outcomes were changed as result.

Blizzard did say, “the resulting experience this past weekend was not acceptable, and we sincerely apologize to the competitors who were adversely affected.”

They are reevaluating equipment requirements and venue capabilities to ensure they deliver a better experience.

Will take place Oct 13-Oct 15, at the new Blizzard Arena in California.

The total prize is $250,000.

Synergy picks in Arena are being removed

Mike Donais said this week that they are removing the synergy picks from Arena soon, after the next patch. Synergy picks were implemented with KotFT so that the options for your first two cards were limited to smaller pools of “synergy cards” that worked well with other cards of the same type. The hopes were that they would provide a solid base to build upon. Going forward, the first two picks will be the same as all the other picks, thus rolling it back. (source)

You login to your Twitch account and redeem your Prime Loot for 2 card backs.

Equip the card back for the team you want to support and play the game. Every time you win a ranked game with that card back equipped, you help your team get a chance to open more card packs for the week. The card packs are for the pros and not you.

They start out with a fresh account, 10 Classic packs, and a Welcome Bundle. On Monday they get 10 packs from each of two different expansions for that week. Then on Wednesday, they get a portion of a second pack award based on what their fans do with their card backs.

The pros cannot purchase anything in-game for real money, so they are relying on us to help them out.

First event there will be the Overwatch Contenders Season One Playoffs on Oct 7-8.

5 Changes (nerfs) coming in next update

Innervate (Druid – Basic Card)

Current – 0 mana Druid spell, Gain 2 Mana Crystals this turn only.

New – 0 mana Druid spell, Gain 1 Mana Crystal this turn only.

Innervate creates explosive starts to the game that can be difficult for the opponent to recover from. The change will keep the card as a simple Basic card but slows down the explosive start potential. They considered other options such as:

Refresh 2 Mana Crystals

Gain 2 Mana Crystals this turn only and increase the mana cost to 1.

Gain 6 Mana Crystals this turn only and increase the mana cost to 4.

They did want to keep the card simple since it’s a Basic card and they kept in mind other cards like Counterfeit Coin which is strong in combination with other support cards. With the right support cards for Innervate, it may end up still seeing play but won’t be in every deck. That is their end goal.

Fiery War Axe (Warrior – Basic Card)

Current – 2 mana, 3/2 weapon

New – 3 mana, 3/2 weapon

A powerful weapon from the start that works well with Pirates and cards that synergize with weapons. Raising its cost by 1 will slow down the Warrior’s tempo and lower the overall power level of the card.

They still expect to see it being played despite the change.

Hex (Shaman – Basic Card)

Current – 3 mana, Shaman spell, Transform a minion into a 0/1 Frog with Taunt.

New – 4 mana, Shaman spell, Transform a minion into a 0/1 Frog with Taunt.

Not making this change due to a current power-level problem, but they are making a “forward-thinking” change with the overall identity of the class in mind. Changing Hex makes Shaman a bit weaker against big minions and worse at silencing. They think that having both strengths and weaknesses in a class is important.

Murloc Warleader (Neutral – Epic)

Current – 3 mana, 3/3 Murloc, Your other Murlocs have +2/+1

New – 3 mana, 3/3 Murloc, Your other Murlocs have +2 Attack.

Removing the health buff from Murloc Warleader will make it easier for players to clear the board of murlocs, and still have it remain a Classic build-around card. This gives a simplification of health-giving buffs and additional room for future Murlocs since the Warleader will be around for a while.

Spreading Plague – (Druid – Rare)

Current – 5 mana Druid spell, Summon a 1/5 Scarab with Taunt. If your opponent has more minions, cast this again.

New – 6 mana Druid spell, Summon a 1/5 Scarab with Taunt. If your opponent has more minions, cast this again.

Spreading Plague is a great defensive tool for Druid to protect themselves against aggressive decks but it was too efficient at 5 mana. Raising it to 6 will slow down the card slightly, while still allowing it to be used in the late game.

Considered changing it to 7 but since the change to Innervate, decided to only add 1 mana to the cost.

Ultimate Infestation

It feels pretty bad to lose to this card, but with the other changes being made to Druid, ramping out Ultimate Infestation before turn 10 should happen less often, so they decided to leave it as it is.

Ice Block

Many have discussed moving Ice Block to the Hall of Fame, but that only happens at the beginning of the year (with the first expansion of the year). “Our general stance regarding Hall of Fame is that we want to avoid moving cards mid-year.” Hmm….

Starts out with Lana’thel having two 0/10 Sleeping Acolyte on her side. One turn one she turns you into a vampire, and your Hero Power becomes Vampiric Bite (Give a non-Vampire +2/+2. You must use this)

Professor Putricide

This is a 3 phase fight. He starts out with 15 Armor and 30 Health. Once you get rid of his armor, phase 2 will start. His Hero Power is Mad Science (Passive Hero Power. All Secrets cost (0).) He has a bunch of secrets that you really need to remove, so be sure to have Eater of Secrets in your deck.  Also, you will need to be able to remove Festergut (4 mana, 3/5 minion, At the end of your turn, deal 3 damage to all enemy minions.), so save any removal for him.

Second phase

He changes Hero Power to, Madder Science (Passive Hero Power. All weapons cost (1).), gains 15 Armor, and he drops Festergut on the board. Remove Festergut ASAP, and get rid of the weapon if you can then clear his armor. When the armor is gone, he will go into phase 3 and play another big minion you need removal for.

Third Phase

The last phase he changes his Hero Power to, Maddest Science (Passive Hero Power. All cards cost (5). Because SCIENCE!), and he plays Rotface (8 mana, 4/6 minion, Whenever this minion survives damage, summon a random Legendary minion.).

Once you remove Rotface, it’s fairly easy to finish it off.

Sindragosa

You can only have 3 minions at a time on the board, because of 4 irremovable Block of Ice cards. When you get her health down to 20 and 10, she will turn your minions into more Block of Ice minions, which will eliminate slots for you to play more minions. So make sure to clear off any minions before getting her down to those milestones. Once she hits 10 health, her Hero Power, Ice Claw (Deal 2 damage) will start to deal 2 damage to anything she wants.

Fireside Gatherings are getting more epic than ever before. They have a video telling more about the Fireside Gatherings that ends with everyone going for pancakes and I hear that it’s become a thing.

Fireside Brawls – Each month there is a different Fireside Brawl to try. They run the entire month with no breaks and are independent to weekly Tavern Brawls.

Gamescom Tavern – At Gamescom in Germany, they have a special Fireside Brawl where everyone at Gamescom is battling against the Supreme Lich King. He has 1 million health!.

You choose a hero and get a premade deck

You start with 9 mana and 20 health

Do as much damage as you can and when you die, a second player can then choose a new class through a discover interface and continue the battle.

The Innkeeper can tune the fight based on how many players are at the event, which changes how much health he has.

It’s not abnormal to see one archetype get popular early on and people latch on to powerful decks.

Blizzard is discussing internally if some changes might need to come to Druid.

Innervate, Swipe and Wild Growth – Class defining cards are good but auto-include cards into decks isn’t the design goal

Ultimate Infestation – Changing this card would only impact player sentiment and not play or win rate stats.

Spreading Plague – Watching this card. The current meta shows a lot of swarm style decks which this helps with. However it shouldn’t be an auto-include card if it’s not like that in the meta.

The New Wing opened up, The Upper Reaches. If you clear the 3 bosses, you get a Frozen Throne pack.

One way to do this is with Divine Spirit + Inner Fire combo on a stolen Bone Spike. (4 mana, 0/8 minion, At the start of your turn deal 15 damage to the enemy Hero.)  But you can’t leave Bone Spike on his side of the board long.

Recommended Decks:

Deathbringer Saurfang – You must bring a weapon to this fight

He can only be attacked with weapons. He has 20 health and lots of Taunts.

Kill the minions with your minions as you can while smacking him in the face with weapons

Lady Deathwhisper – Revolves around keeping your dragon friend alive and going to face

You have Valithria Dreamwalker on your side of the board. She has 30 attack but she can’t attack unless at full health. Oh and she can’t be attacked unless at full health. She starts with 1 health.

Lady Deathwhisper has 30 health and 90 armor. Her Hero Power is Whisper of Death – Damage all enemy minions until they have 1 Health. She always casts this at the start of her turn.

If you beat Lady Deathwhisper, you will be rewarded with a Frozen Throne card pack.

Blizzard App will be rebranded again, to Blizzard Battle.net

Patch this week to fix an Arena bug.  There were 12 cards missing from the arena.

Fireside Gatherings are getting Tavern vs Tavern events. They will compete through 3 stages: Round Robin, Playoffs and a Grand Final, which will be held at Blizzcon! In addition to being flown out to BlizzCon to compete, each player that qualifies to the Grand Final will receive an ASUS Rog Zephyrus gaming laptop!  Event registration must be in by August 31st. Events start in early September.

Alright Espo, I was finishing out my free arena run i was at 4 wins was hoping for another win. as i wait for my opponent to show up and it’s a rogue i was a shaman and was like oh no this is not good. I started off with all high mana cards in hand i re mulligan and ended up with all high mana cards again. so starting off with bad luck. the first few turn we both didn’t play anything.it is turn 4 he coins out bittertide hydra it’s a 5 mana 8×8 and says whenever this minion takes damage, deal 3 damage to your hero. i’m sweating at this point…. the next card i drawled was volcano deal 15 damage randomly split among all minions…. there’s no other minions on the board but bitterhide hydra the flames are falling from the sky it hits this minion 8 times dealing a total of 24 damage to his hero the rogue sits there and says well played and plays a 2/6 taunt  hes is setting at 6 health i have no good cards to play plus with the overload in effect so i pass my turn he goes face with his 2/6 taunt and weapon. my turn again i pull stampeding kodo i smash him to the floor to get rid of the taunt then i hero power to get a 0/2 taunt pass my turn his turn comes he hits my taunt and pass the turn i still don’t have anything to play so i go to face with the stampeding kodo he says well played i give up. i was shocked
