Legendary Creature - Podcast

Andy's heard a rumor that Kyle has been working on resurrecting an old deck. He prods and finds out that Kyle has decided to rebuild his first commander deck: Rhys the Redeemed. They discuss the fact that they don't know how to pronounce Rhys. Rize? Reece? Shit. Who knows... Kyle talks through his thoughts on setting up an elf tribal build for Rhys to feed with elf tokens. Andy questions whether Kyle has built enough tokens into his strategy. Kyle also techs some clearly valuable cards from Amonkhet and a couple hidden gems that everyone with a Rhys the Redeemed deck ought to consider. Kyle and Andy also talk through an important part of deck building: having some ideas ready for tweaking your deck. They explore additions for the deck to protect the strategy as the playgroup responds to the Rhys elves deck. See Kyle's deck list on Tapped out. The sweet, sweet intro/outro beats you hear are by the Artist Home, the song Night Swim from the album Falling Into Place. Support his craft. Buy his music. Andy built a Zur the Enchanter deck in our early days of playing commander. Our play group hasn't seen or heard from Zur in a long time though. Andy talks to Kyle about Zur being back in town after his sabbatical in Bermuda. Now Andy's got a new Zur deck. But this time, Zur is running a cycling mechanic theme. We break down the core pieces and strategy of a Zur cycling deck. Andy also talks about the intriguing possibility of building a cycling deck with partner commanders and four colors. Check out Andy's deck list! We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 15. How do you feel about netdecking? Are you mad as hell that people are getting their deck ideas from the internet?! Do you have the spirit of Howard Beale prodding you to the window to scream, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this netdecking any more!" Or... do you feel that netdecking is simply a good tool for building decks? Getting decks lists or ideas from the web is often a topic of discussion, and it came up on discussion boards recently when Adam Styborski wrote about what the data from EDHRec shows about card usage. Check out his article here. There are cards that are obvious inclusions when we are building a commander deck. Then there are those cards that we maybe don't naturally think about without some online help. Andy and Kyle take a look at a few cards in each color that maybe aren't the most used, but that are hard to deal with cards and come up frequently enough in netdeck references that you probably see them regularly. Andy then gives us some good ways to deal with those cards, so that we can all be ready to deal with netdecked ideas. We're super grateful that Home lets us use his sweet beats. This episode's intro/outro music is from Home's Resting State album, track # 4. Look up his tunes on his Bandcamp page. Big shout out to Mikey Patch for all our art work! Check his stuff out.

Ever play a game and come away feeling like you just didn't have fun? Well Magic: the Gathering is like the ultimate personality test. Maybe you haven't found the style and colors that match your temperament. In this episode, Kyle and Andy talk through experiences in finding what might not fit your temperament and the journey to finding what does speak to your commander soul. Sometimes you want to do what all the cool kids are doing, but do it your own way. Then you find out your way sucks... Kyle has a therapy session with Andy, talking out his hatred towards his Atraxa deck. They break down why he avoided calling in all planeswalkers for a super friends deck, how immoral infect is, and why +1/+1 counters don't work in our play group. Music this episode from HOME's Resting State album, track 15. We're super grateful he let's us use his music. Andy talks about the disappointment he felt when his Yahenni, Undying Partisan deck didn't pan out. But a longing remained in his heart for a mono-black commander. Meanwhile, Tina had just broken up with Gonti, Lord of Luxury. Hoping to impress Tina, Gonti threw a party and invited everyone to bring him their luxuries. Then everything changed when Andy walked in. Andy talks about this match made in heaven and techs us through his new Gonti commander deck.
