On this week’s Legion of Leia Podcast episode 39, my co-hosts Anastasia Washington, Sabina Ibarra and I go deep into spoiler territory for this weekend’s blockbuster hit Captain America: Civil War. You have been warned. This was a slam dunk for me and definitely my favorite Marvel movie so far. We’ll take it point-by-point, talking about new characters like Black Panther, how they handled Spider-Man, and whether we’re #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan. I’m outnumbered.

On this week’s 38th episode of the Legion of Leia podcast, Heidi Cox from the web series Stalking Levar joins myself and my co-hosts Anastasia Washington and Sabina Ibarra. (Please note, I do say episode 37. I’m going to blame that one on lack of sleep and the excitement around Star Wars Day.) This week we have a ton of great topics including how much better Game of Thrones is this season and a couple of super cool fan theories. We also talk about the campaign online to give Elsa a girlfriend in Frozen 2. Then there is the amazing new Misty Copeland Barbie that shows her dancing in Firebird.

We’re getting Margaret Atwood’s  A Handmaid’s Tale as a series starring Elizabeth Moss. It’s one of the most terrifying books I’ve read and is strangely appropriate for where we are now in terms of culture and women. Then we give a spoiler-free review of Captain America: Civil War, which was absolutely mind-blowing. Next week we’re going full spoiler so see it this weekend!

Okay, we took a bit of a hiatus because I haven’t been in my house for more than a few days in the last two weeks! Oh, the joy of being a writer! But, we’re back! On this week’s 36th episode of the Legion of Leia podcast, Christina Janke, Legion of Leia writer and geek lady extraordinaire joins myself and my co-hosts Anastasia Washington and Sabina Ibarra. Christina writes some amazing pieces for us and if you haven’t checked out her work, you really should! She’s also part of that geek girl calendar where I met many of our former guests!

This week, we take on Hollywood whitewashing, which Christina has written about for us. We also talk about the new look for Rita Repulsa in the new Power Rangers movie, played by Elizabeth Banks and the casting of Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

If you’re a designer, make sure to check out Her Universe‘s design contest here! We also speculate on who Willem Dafoe is playing in the Justice League movie, and discuss the nerd rage over a female lead in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I am cautiously optimistic about Warcraft trailer and everyone else weighs in on it from a non-gamer standpoint. Oh, and the little matter of Stana Katic leaving Castle right before the final season because of “budgetary reasons.”

On this week’s 35th episode of the Legion of Leia podcast, gamer, comic book artist and all-around amazing geek lady Satine Phoenix joins myself and my co-hosts Anastasia Washington and Sabina Ibarra. Satine has a comic book series out called New Praetorians that is pretty darn awesome and a gaming podcast called Game School! I know this personally because I got to be around in a very interesting way for its creation. (Just listen and you’ll know what I mean.) Satine is also an amazing writer, does a number of podcasts is a very excellent Dungeon Master!

This week we talk all about her work and her gaming prowess. We also take on the controversy around the merit of Batman v Superman, though we left that until the end with a very clear mention of when we’d be getting into spoilers. I don’t want to mess it up for you guys! I’m also dying to hear what you thought of the film. Then there is a discussion about the reaction critics are getting for not liking it. Guys, if you loved it, I’m happy for you. I really wanted to. Wonder Woman, however, rocked the house and I’m freaking out over her upcoming solo film.

We also talk about the new trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass and how it’s an examination of familial conflict, as well as the trailer for Warcraft. Then there is the news that Disney’s D23 Expo will be coming the week before San Diego Comic-Con next year and what that is going to do to journalists!

On this week’s 34th episode of the Legion of Leia podcast, Chase Masterson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Flash and the Doctor Who spinoff Vienna) joins myself and my co-hosts Anastasia Washington and Sabina Ibarra to talk about thePop Culture Hero Coalition. This is a cause that’s really close to my heart, especially after dealing with gamergate. I talk to so many kids who’ve been bullied and the work Chase and the Coalition are doing, with the UN, Amnesty International, NOH8 and more is amazing! Chase, along with Carrie Goldman (who was on a previous episode of the Legion of Leia podcast) started this organization, which appears at cons, speaks at schools and more. They even reached out to the school that was a few blocks away from the terrorist attacks in California last year to help with counseling.
