Mike and Danny Parton recently launched this label with a superb first EP that laid out a fantastic sonic vision. It is where they will showcase their love of artful sampling and passion for crafting celebratory sounds. They have been doing so for years while drawing on '90s house, French touch, disco and funk across a series of classy outings on plenty of top European labels, and this is another fresh modern take on all that history.

Danny gets things underway with 'Orange Juice', a thumping and peak time house slammer that washes over you as a potent wall of sound made from swirling vocals, sharp percussive details and textured chords that demand hand go skyward. 'Hotspot' has more funk in its lines, with loopy drums and horn stabs blasting out over a freewheeling bass loop. Smart filters keep things dynamic, and more impassioned vocal cries and stabs mean the track brims with energy.

Mike then steps up with an equally brilliant brace, starting with 'Don't Look My Name', which taps into '90s US vibes and the steamy, loopy intensity of legends like Armin Van Helden. The drums are bold, the synths are loud in the mix, and the vocal samples bring just enough human heat to set things off. Last but not least, 'Free As A Bird' is an emotional banger with heart-tugging vocal hooks and punchy house funk finished in style with bass twangs and big strings. Glorious stuff.

Incoming for the second release on House Music label Ascension on Wax, AoW’s co-founder Lavan is dropping his ‘For The Love EP.’ This raw, authentic, party-ready release is arguably his best to date and pushes the purity of the old-school house music sound, whilst bringing it into the present. Lavans notorious usage of MPC sampling and borrowed synthesisers is flowing throughout the release alongside gorgeous jazz elements. Hydro-trip specialist Black Eyes closes the EP with a subterranean, downtempo roller of a remix which gives a nod to the iconic Detroit sound championed by the late Mike Huckaby amongst many others.

'For The Love EP' follows Lavan’s ‘It’s Happening EP’ on SlothBoogie released earlier in 2024 and his feature in DJ Mag’s emerging artists section. This is a gentleman who is proving his dedication to his craft.

It’s a pleasure to present ‘Take A Deep Breath’ by Mark E on his MERC imprint.

Mark E has long been a favourite producer of mine, and favourite DJ since I saw him at Thunder in 2014. From making edits in his early days, the underground DJ’s DJ and one of kind producer has gone on to release on some of the finest labels on the planet like Spectral, Running Back, Delusions of Grandeur and of course his own label MERC. But what has always been clear about Mark E is that he is a producer without any desire to sound like anyone else.

Here Mark E returns to MERC for his first physical 12” release in 7 years on the label. Giving us four tracks of unswerving deep house goodness that sees him explore the underside of house music, evolving his sound into deeper searching electronic territory, pursuing a rich evolving journey along the way. Understate to Intoxicate. That is the essence of Mark E.

Suite For Chick is a heartfelt homage to the late jazz maestro Chick Corea. This collection features reinterpretations of City Gate, Rumble, Time Track, and Hymn of the Heart from the Chick Corea Elektric Band, as well as Return to Forever’s classic Romantic Warrior. These vibrant renditions celebrate Corea's enduring legacy in the jazz world. Chick Coreaplayed a crucial role in shaping Miles Davis's electric fusion era and was a key member of Lost Quintet. He was also a founding force behind Return to Forever and many other influential groups.

Here Bangkok-based Maarten Goetheer collaborates with top Thai drummer Pong Nakornchai, blending Wurlitzer chords, Moog basslines, ARP leads, and signature Rhodes phasings. Nakornchai, a Master’s graduate in Jazz Studies from Mahidol University, leads his own quartet and embodies the progressive spirit of modern jazz in Thailand.

Maarten's inspiration stems from his musical upbringing; his father, Gerard Goetheer, was a jazz pianist. This environment fostered his deep appreciation for music. A pivotal moment came when he heard Masters at Work remixing Tania Maria, igniting his vision to merge genres and create something new. With Suite for Chick, Maarten wanted to incorporate a wider range of modern influences that he became infatuated with throughout his musical career such as Techno, Italo, Cosmic Disco, Dub, Acid, Boogie, Proto-House & Ambient Music. To Maarten, bringing these genres together is his current and unique interpretation of the Jazz Fusion moniker.

This debut EP by Hypersensitive takes listeners on a sonic journey full of contrasts, blending techno, acid, EBM, and disco influences. Takedown continues the exploration with a more broken rhythm, charged with a rock energy, reflecting the artist's past influences.
