In the grind of our day-to-day lives we often forget that there’s another aspect to life. We forget that this world system is controlled by one who hates Jesus and all of Jesus’ followers, and that he will do whatever he can to stop or stunt our spiritual growth. Pastor Mark will remind us of these facts and, moreover, that Jesus has already won the battle. The apostle Paul will be giving us information concerning our salvation and standing with God. Pastor Mark will take Paul’s info and help us understand how to put the theory into practice in our lives and our hearts.

Having salvation – knowing that your sins have been forgiven – is an awesome, freeing thing. Remembering the things we did in the past can be crippling, even paralyzing. Pastor Mark is teaching from the book of Philippians, where the apostle Paul is reminding the believers in Philippi of what God did for them through Christ’s atoning work. God wants us to move forward into the new life He has given us, but many times we find it hard or even impossible to do because of our remembering the events of the past. May God grace us to be able to put those things aside.

When we listen to stories like this one, we have problems believing what Jesus said. How could we do more than He, the Savior of the world, did? He was speaking of the concept of multiplication. The apostles reached way more people than Jesus did, simply because there were more of them and they could be in more than one place. Pastor Mark will be teaching about the things in our lives that keep us from being the kind of Christ followers we really want to be – and Christ intended us to become. We will then learn how to overcome these obstacles and become more effective witnesses.

The apostle Paul, in speaking of his Christian walk, spoke of leaving the past behind and pressing forward toward the goal of becoming like Christ. The concept of forgetting the wrong acts we committed and getting to the place where their memory has no power over us is indeed daunting. Pastor Mark will be teaching about the ability of God to do anything. That includes making us able to recognize that the power of sin over us has been demolished by Jesus’ death on the cross. In the same way that God sees us as if we’d never sinned, sin’s power over us has been wiped away.

Hopefully, you have a pastor with the attitude that the apostle Paul had toward the church in Philippi. These days there are plenty of pastors who are willing to take your money, talents and time and give little or nothing in return. They are what Jesus called “wolves”. All they want to do is to devour the flock for their own fulfillment. Pastor Mark will be teaching about the importance of having a pastor who will do what Paul did; teach the whole scripture of God and encourage you to want to become more like Jesus. That’s their job and attaining the likeness of Christ is ours.
