Lesson 212: Learn How To Index
It's one thing to have a commonplace book but it sucks when you can't find what you are looking for. Sure you know you got some amazing quote from a book and you need to use the quote now but you thumb through your commonplace book and nothing. If you have an index, it would be easier to find what you want. This leads to another reason why I love Evernote. It makes it super easy to search and you create notebooks and stacks of notebooks which means you can find things a lot easier. In fact, I have a notebook called "Ideas Live Here" so I know if I want an idea all I have to do is go through that notebook. Once the idea has come to life, it's taken out of that note.

Lesson 211: Get A Commonplace Book
A commonplace book is essential and we should all have one. It's essentially a journal. A place where you put in what I love to call "all of the things". Commonplace books are a way to compile knowledge, usually by writing information into books. Such books are essentially scrapbooks filled with items of every kind: recipes, quotes, letters, poems, tables of weights and measures, proverbs, prayers, legal formulas. I use Evernote as my handwriting could do with some work but it is simple to use and there is a free version. But really any note app would do. The idea is to write in things that are important to you and go back often to learn.

Lesson 210: It's Ok To Store Away Ideas
Testing ideas will lead you to discover which ideas just might not work the way you'd love them to. Now that doesn't mean you should throw the idea away. Nope, store it because you never know when you might need that idea and when it just might be the right fit to complete a project.

Lesson 209: Test Your Ideas
When you have an idea, it just lives in your head until you actually do something about it. The first thing you should do, I believe, is testing it. Try it out and see how things work. It might not work as you thought it would, it might even work better than thought. However, till you test it out, you won't know so once you've played around with the idea enough in your head, bring it to fruition by testing it.

Lesson 217: Lift Your Team Up
Congratulations, you now have a team. That's awesome! Love it. The issue is that it doesn't just end there. It is important to make sure that you actually have extra in the tank to carry the team. It is also important to know what fuels members of your team. We are all different people so what works for A might not work for B. Once you know what fuels them, give that to them because they'll need to be fired up to go from where they are to the goal.

Lesson 215: Do It Three Times
If you want to do something, don't give up on the first try. Keep trying. At least do it three times. I learned something: Huh? What? Ohhh.... The first time you try something, it's difficult, it's strange, it's something you don't feel comfortable but then you try it again and it gets just a bit easier and on and on till it becomes second nature. The only way to get good at anything is to do it over and over, picking up from mistakes and building on them.

Lesson 208: Create At Least One Success A Day
Every day we wake up is another day we are given to stack up success. Now, you don't have to go jumping from planes or building skyscrapers. It's ok to start small and build. We find what works for us and we work towards achieving that. What we need to do is have our task list and check them off as we complete them. Each check delivers an amazing feeling. It does for me at least and I'm sure it will for you too.

Lesson 207: Being Counted On Is A Gift
I don't know about you but I totally love being counted on. I love know I have friends and loved ones that will not hesitate to reach out to me when things are not so great because they know I'll show up. I also see that as a gift so it is something I have to live up to. The thing about being reliable is that you get to build momentum. Bit by bit, you take care of one tiny thing,, then another slightly bigger thing, and on and on. Also, you get to learn lots in the process.

Lesson 206: Find A Better Job
If you love your job, awesome. Keep it. Enjoy it. We need to pay the bills. However, if you are struggling every morning because you dread going to work, maybe it's time you found a better job. It isn't about quitting the one you have now. Again, we need to pay the bills but it's working towards that job you want. It might be getting a new set of skills. It might mean starting your own business. Whatever it is you have to do, do it to get to that job that will give you peace of mind. We shouldn't struggle mentally to do our work.
PROMPT: How do you define a better job?

Lesson 205: Rewrite Your First Draft
The first draft is done, congratulations but as I said yesterday, you are not done yet. There's still some work to do. That first draft has to be read with intent. It will hurt but you'll have to be super honest with yourself. Things that don't make sense to you, the one person that knows the entire story, will make even less sense to others to figure those out. Cut out things that are taking too much space. Take things slow and then build. Bit by bit and you'll have that finished version you can show.
PROMPT: What are you currently "rewriting"?
