REACHING YOUR PEAK PERFORMANCE By…
• Keep an A+ Attitude
• Find a Mentor
• Take on the tough jobs
• Be a lifelong learner
• Leave a great legacy
KEEP A + ATTITUDE: The overall attitude of the people and the atmosphere of your work center is generally a reflection of the attitude of its leadership. In order to perform your best, manage conflict, deal with adversity, and take care of your people you must develop, maintain, and exude a positive attitude…its contagious! You need an attitude of gratitude and as Crystal Harris would say, “Your attitude determines your altitude!”
FIND A MENTOR: Good mentors can provide you with the advice, guidance, candid feedback, and global perspective you need to progress personally and professionally. Choose wisely, only look for mentors that you trust, not the ones that are just where you want to be…
TAKE ON THE TOUGH JOBS (the ones that everyone else is running from or shirking): Tough assignments allow you to exercise your “leadership muscle” and sharpen your professional skills. You must have the courage and confidence to step up to any assignment that will challenge your leadership ability. These tough jobs often lead to positive results and recognition as well as create road-maps and confidence for future critical assignments.
BE A LIFELONG LEARNER: To operate at your peak performance you must be well versed in both the technical and professional aspects of your job. Read as much as you can about your primary duty requirements and become a student of leadership. I challenge you to read/listen to books watch videos, listen to podcast and etc... on leadership—gain insight on different tactics and procedures, because it will pay dividends for you in the long run! Reaching your peak performance is about the journey (check out BOOT leadership)…not the destination. Theoretically, you will never get to a point where you have learned enough so continue to seek knowledge and improve your capacity and value through education/experience. The opportunities to learn are limitless! Remember, this is not an instantaneous thing so don’t waste time looking for the “quick fix” … embrace the journey / experiences!
LEAVE A LEGACY: Legacy begins with you and your passion to develop leaders. For your legacy to be valid you must pass the baton to those who are coming behind you, remember a legacy is left only when a leader/mentor prepares their follower / mentee to be successful in their absence and to ‘lead on’! As Chief CZ would say (here), “If you want to fly with the eagles, don’t hang around with the turkeys!”.

http://www.legendaryleadrrs.info https://www.facebook.com/groups/leaders2legends/?ref=share Guest in this Live Chat: From Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD: Lt Col George Nichols (Mission Support Group Deputy Commander), TSgt Leslie Baccus (Lead Airman Leadership School Instructor) and TSgt Johnathan Marshik (First Term Airman Center Leader) and from Nellis Air Force Base, NV: SMSgt Gregorio Whittet (Heavy Repair Superintendent). As an Air Force I am not fully convinced that we conduct feedback right, or at least not consistently right. I think maybe you agree with me, so let’s chat about it! Now, this is not a regurgitation of AFI 36-2406 (please review...there have been some updates/changes) but rather our thoughts and advice on the topic. Do you know what your current performance level is or how it is perceived/assessed, in accordance with the established standards? Do you even know what the standards are? Do you know what performance rating/markings you would receive if your performance report were to close out today? Do you have a grade applicable feedback, Airman Comprehensive Assessment (ACA) in your files? Do you have an ‘Initial’, ‘Mid-term’ and ‘Follow-up’ feedback? Do you know where to find out about all of this? The answer is simple—your SUPERVISOR / Rater. If you do not know the answers to the questions listed, you owe it to yourself to discuss them with your supervisor and request the feedback that you deserve. Real Talk: Feedback is not only the “formalized” process of using the ACA and officially documenting feedback/performance, it is an EVERYDAY thing! Real Talk: You should not wander about wondering (see what happened there?) where you stand in comparison to the standard(s). If you are in this situation, you MUST communicate with your supervisor—IMMEDIATELY!! Real Talk: This is CANNOT be about us continuing to repeat the inadequate cycle of feedback that we as supervisors / leaders may have (probably were) exposed to ... we MUST do better! Supervisors, you should NEVER only provide the minimum feedback (required by AFI)/ mentoring for your ratee. The first time you see your ratee’s previous performance records or any of their records (SURF/previous EPRs/Decorations/PT assessments and etc…) should NOT be when you receive their EPR shell. This is something that you should be discussing in your initial feedback, and then periodically throughout the reporting period—and the entire time you rate on the member. As leaders we MUST take care of our team! We simply do NOT have an option, we WILL provide all required feedbacks, and truly MENTOR our teammates. Real Leaders, yup that’s you ... legends ALWAYS Receive and Provide Professional, Constructive & “SMART” Feedback!

“The Air Force is Inclusive & Diverse … What Say the Airmen?”
**I will preface EVERY conversation with “Nothing is pre-decisional, every case and situation has its own unique circumstances and the Air Force has published and clearly communicated its position on inclusion and diversity.”** Of course, the Air Force’s senior leaders and the vast majority of the Air Force’s Airmen truly understand that it is imperative that we must continue to build and maintain a culture that promotes inclusion and diversity; however, it is naïve to believe that EVERY Airmen feels / acts this way. If it were truly believed and acted upon, then we would not have Airmen being treated any differently or assessed on anything other than their performance! We undoubtedly have Airmen that are discriminated against among our ranks, and it MUST STOP. We MUST treat each other with dignity and respect…all humans deserve that and we (as Airmen) will ensure that happens!
