According to Microsoft’s most recent Work Trend Index,
published in September 2022, more than half of managers (53%) report feeling
burned out at work. This statistic is striking, and it is slightly higher than
the burnout rates among employees in general. However, it is not surprising
given the circumstances. Managers have had to guide their teams through a
pandemic and its aftermath, facing challenges that required them to lead with
empathy while managing increasing demands with potentially fewer resources—all
while receiving little recognition for their efforts. This untenable situation
has left many managers struggling.

A survey conducted by Forbes and MyPerfectResume involving
over 1,200 U.S. workers highlights the scale and impact of burnout: 88% of
workers report experiencing burnout, and one in five considers quitting their
job on a daily basis.

Certified Counselor Jahmaal Marshall specializes in helping
corporate executives address burnout at its root, using proven methods to
double their time and maximize productivity.

For as long as I can remember, I lived to please others and
rarely resisted the demands placed on me. This led to chronic procrastination,
perfectionism, poor boundaries, and unhealthy coping mechanisms to numb the
pain. Burnout became a way of life for me. As a manager, I hesitated to
delegate tasks for fear that the results wouldn't meet my expectations. I often
operated out of a fear of rejection, which affected all my interactions. As an
employee, I second-guessed every interaction and never turned down any project.
The constant pressure from all sides became a mental prison, leading me to seek
unhealthy outlets and addictions as a means to cope with the pain I was
unwilling to confront.

However, I learned a lot about my triggers and behavior
patterns, and I discovered how to harness them for maximum productivity.

It seems that everyone is eager to live longer these days.
Wealthy individuals are taking extreme measures to reach the age of 100 and
beyond, while ordinary Americans are seeking advice from the world's
longest-lived individuals on how to extend their lifespans.

However, a recent survey revealed that Americans are
shifting their focus from simply living longer to prioritizing health as well.
In a poll conducted by Medtronic and Morning Consult with 2,200 American
adults, participants were asked if they would prefer to live a shorter,
healthier life or a longer life filled with health issues. The
majority—66%—chose the shorter, healthier option.

These findings suggest that many Americans believe longevity
should also consider a person's health status in old age. Specifically, 62% of
respondents expressed concern that living longer might result in declining
health or pain. Additionally, more than half believe they could become a burden
to their loved ones if they live for a long time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
the average life expectancy in the U.S. is 73.5 years for men and 79.3 years
for women. Although most respondents indicated a desire to live to at least 90
years old, nearly 60% doubt they will reach that age.

December 10, 2024 Achieving Success: Work Life Balance Through Conscious Leadership with Diane Taylor
Getting up to go to work every day is more challenging when
you don't view your job as a career. According to CareerBuilder, nearly three
in five (58 percent) Canadian workers feel they have "just a job"
rather than a career (42 percent). While seven in ten (70 percent) Canadian
employees believe their employer creates a safe and trusting environment that
encourages honest communication, many still feel uncomfortable discussing
work-related issues, according to a new survey by the Harris Poll on behalf of
Express Services Inc.

The survey, which included responses from over 500 employees
and more than 500 employers, found that the majority of workers find it easy to
receive constructive feedback from managers (76 percent), set professional
boundaries to prevent personal issues from affecting work (73 percent), and
express concerns about their company (63 percent).

However, only 40 percent of employees said they feel
comfortable discussing personal issues that impact their work with their
managers. This figure increases among Generation Z employees (46 percent) but
decreases among Generation X employees (37 percent).

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting on my

As we approach the end of 2024, I want to share an
optimistic perspective on the future. The trucking and logistics industry is
thriving and appears to be on track for a record year in 2025. If you need
statistical support, I have that available.

According to the American Trucking Association, the freight
and logistics industry in the United States is substantial and expanding. The GDP
for the transportation sector reached $738.5 billion in Q4 2023. Preliminary
figures indicate that the nation's trucking freight bill totaled $987 billion
in gross freight revenues for primary shipments in 2023.

**International Trucking:**
- Trucks transported 66.5% of the value of surface trade
between the U.S. and Canada in 2023.
- Trucks transported 84.5% of the value of surface trade
between the U.S. and Mexico in 2023.

**Employment:**
- In 2023, 8.5 million people were employed in jobs related
to trucking activity across the economy, excluding the self-employed.
- There were 3.55 million truck drivers employed in 2023,
reflecting an increase of 0.3% from 2022.
