Let's Talk About Stuff!

It’s Steven’s birthday and he gets to choose the movie! So of course he chose his current summer favorite EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! (2016) from one of his all-time favorite directors, Richard Linklater! We become Jocks and talk about the great characters, the awesome actors who brought them to life, and of course the star of the show - Charlie the cat in the fridge!

We also talk the new show in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe - Knuckles (Paramount+), Bottoms (2023), we celebrate Anne Hathaway’s Hath-aissance with the delightful rom-com The Idea of You (2024), and Sling Blade comes to visit!

WHAT’S YOUR POINT, MARK?

Join us today as we *FINALLY* get back to THE YEAR OF THE TURT: A year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which has clearly already gotten away from us)! On this episode we discuss the first 3 episodes of the 1987 animated series that helped the TMNT rocket to new heights of the pop culture mainstream and cement them as a full-fledged phenomenon.

We talk about how this first adaptation of the original Mirage TMNT comics makes significant changes to the canon of the Turts (that kind of work in its favor), April’s hair color, the new villains of this series, how their bandana colors were assigned*, & so much more!

Also discussed: Doritos Baja Fiery Mango chips, half-Christmas, a surprising use of seasoning, Krang’s pickup lines, & more!

*Special thanks to the TURTLES FOREVER PODCAST for the Kevin Eastman interview clip.

FOR ALL THE GIRTH, IT’S FOR ALL IT’S WORTH.

Today we are sorry/not sorry for a VEEERY horny episode all about passion and soap opera drama as we watch X-MEN ’97 (2024)! We relive our histories of the OG X-Men series on black & white TVs and scratched-up VHS tapes, we delve into the amazing returning and new voice actors, and we both crush over Cyclops in his sweet 90s tank top and backwards cap!

We also trash Spotify for bricking their own device without a refund and then a week later raising their prices, we listen to an awesome song “RATATATA” by BABYMETAL and Electric Callboy, and we do it all in a tight 2 hours!

BEAUTIFUL DISCO BABY.

On today’s tension-filled episode, Steven and Brent attempt to mend their recently shattered friendship stemming from last week’s on-air altercation. Will your LTAS hosts be able to repair their trust in one another or will they carry this blood-feud with them to their graves?

Hopefully the former, because they have some pop culture to catch up on, including:

Blue Bell’s I <3 Cereal ice cream, the box office performance of 2024’s ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’, the Holiday Heart movie trailer, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), Godzilla Minus One now streaming & available to buy, Blankman (1994), Skinamarink (2023), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024), X-Men ’97 (Disney+ series), & so much more!

DRAMAAA!

Today we finally finish out DocuMAYntary month that had to get pushed into one week of DocJUNEmentary month! We review the 2022 Netflix documentary ’SR.’ which follows Robert Downey Jr. as he connects with his father, Robert Downey Sr., through art, love, and a shared life of drugs and interesting experiences. We take inspiration from Sr.’s work in the underground, counterculture movement and deliver one of our most wild and raucous shows yet!

We also talk about The Fall Guy and Furiosa tanking at the box office, Richard Linklater’s first film ‘SLACKER’ and his particular brand of ‘hangout movie’, we create a new game called ‘We’ve (Definitely) Seen This Movie’, and Steven starts a rap feud!

THE PENGUINS ARE SAFE.

The day we turn 350 is a truly great one as we are taken over by the wonderful trio AMANDA FISHER, ALLISON OBERG & LIZ WILSON! The guys take a backseat to answer some questions about the show and some regrets, then the ladies discuss pop culture that passes the Bechdel test, followed by an impassioned review of Taylor Swift’s new double album The Tortured Poets Department by Amanda, and finally a lightning round This or That segment presented by Chief Liz!

Thanks for listening to any of the 350 episodes we’ve put out there! It means a lot to us. We’d like to say we couldn’t do it without you but, honestly, we’d still do it without you. But we love having you along for the ride!
