  • Exclusive insight - Scrape Stcks with Brandon Medlin
How ScrapeStick WorksScrapeStick is a patent-pending licking branch system used to attract, pattern and position whitetail deer. Deer rely on licking branches and scrapes to communicate to each other, most notably during rut. Mature bucks will often use licking branches to claim an area or to simply see who is nearby. By using ScrapeStick in combination with a mock scrape, you’ll enhance your opportunities for great trail camera pictures and action from your tree stand.
ScrapeStick allows you to effortlessly create a mock scrape anywhere - especially in that favorite shooting lane or in view of your trail camera. Installation is quick and easy with three different mounting options. The ScrapeStick may be fastened to any structure using the provided strap. For a more permanent installation, securely mount The ScrapeStick using the available screw holes. Lastly, easily mount The ScrapeStick to a T-Post for the most versatile solution.
Once ScrapeStick is installed, simply insert a branch, secure it with our steel-tooth locking jaw, and use the adjustable arm to perfectly position the branch over the mock scrape. The end - or lowest point of your branch that is targeted for your deer should hang four feet directly over your mock scrape.
When selecting a branch, it is recommended to focus on using what’s natural to the area. Ideally, use the same type of tree(s) deer are already using. Consider using Cedar tree branches for more flexibility or Oak tree branches which provide strength.
When making the mock scrape, remember to be mindful of scent. Simply rake to expose bare ground that measures 2-3 feet in diameter. Remember, the mock scrape site should be positioned directly below the lowest point, or directly under the expected area of the branch your deer will use.
ScrapeStick has been tested, redesigned and approved by the most avid hunters - simple, versatile, effective.

  • Discover who the Mountain Phoenix really is
I grew up all over the United States living in extreme poverty. I found my first job in the 1st grade when I realized my siblings and I desperately needed food. Nurturing, gathering, the instinct to provide and work has always been a part of who I am in my core.
I was a mountain baby that would often hide in the back of her dad's truck when he said she couldn't go fishing, pop up once we got to the lake, and soaked it all in. Despite all the ups and down of my life I've succeeded in what I believe makes us all wealthy, finding joy.
I believe that anyone could truly do whatever they set their heart and mind to. I do not believe in giving up. I believe that perseverance in pursuing what is right is the most noble endeavor a human can make.

    Hunt the west this year
We are all on common ground around the campfire

    https://www.westerncontours.com/
Western hunting is as diverse as it gets from pursuing coastal Black tail or pigs in central California, Antelope on the open plains of Wyoming, Roosevelts in the western units of Oregon or chasing bugles in a drainage somewhere in Colorado. The opportunities, game and landscapes offer a multitude of possibilities to all bold enough to challenge themselves to adventure past their comfort zone.
Whether it is to carry on a tradition passed down through generations, or those looking to answer a curiosity or a primal calling, adventure seekers, field to plate providers or the skilled woodsman or woman. The only thing that offers more diversity than the west are the people who have accepted this challenge.
Though we have common goals our paths are as diverse as the land we put boots on or the game we pursue. Through trial and tribulation, self-reflection and perseverance our stories come together. A community of likeminded individuals whose pursuit of game is through ethical take and responsible use of the land we tread.

  • Hemp Rope Magic with Art Helin
Hemp Rope secrets with Art HelinUse along rub lines
    Place on traditional scrapes
    Create a monitoring station
    Create mock scrapes
Art Helin of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, began hunting over 30 years ago under the guidance of his father and grandmother. What started as small game and deer hunting in his home state grew to an obsession to hunt nearly every big game and turkey species across North America. Although he enjoys any type of hunting, he is mad about whitetails and turkeys!
Art's hunting success and passion for teaching others has led to his pro/field staffer positions for many outdoor manufacturers. He promotes these companies and the great outdoors by working trade shows, attending retail store special events, conducting seminars, and writing stories for outdoor media. Art’s expertise has been highlighted in articles for magazines including, but not limited to, Buckmasters, American Hunter, Petersen’s Bowhunting, and Realtree.com, and podcosts with Whitetail Rendezvous and Interviews with the Hunting Masters. As a professional photographer, Art specializes in nature and wildlife, with photographs featured in Bear Hunting and Bowhunting World magazines and multiple digital and social media business websites. Art and his wife, Michelle, are experienced in videography, having filmed for Archer's Choice Media Productions and the Double Bull Archery video series, and launched their own show, Own the Season, in 2019.
When speaking with people, Art draws upon his own experience, successes and failures, and the hundreds of days per year in the field hunting, guiding, and scouting. To assist him in scouting, he takes advantage of the tools and technology available including aerial and topographical maps and trail cameras. He has planted food plots for years, which started out small and often failing, but are now getting bigger and better year after year! Art practices woodland management, has completed timber stand improvement and pond projects on his 40-acres, and is eager to share what he has learned with others.
Art is busy promoting archery and hunting in his community when he's not afield. He is active in the local National Wild Turkey Federation chapter, which hosts a highly successful, award-winning Learn to Turkey Hunt event. Since it began in 2003, the event has grown from nine to over thirty new hunters, primarily women and youth. Participants have also included children with chronic or terminal illnesses from the United Special Sportsmen's Foundation. In addition to this annual hunt, Art is also involved in local youth deer hunts, and hunts with veterans and individuals with special needs.
Art lives in rural southwestern Wisconsin with his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Alana and Elizabeth. While Art loves hunting, what he has really come to enjoy, even more, is hunting with family and friends. One of his proudest moments came when Alana shot her first longbeard turkey, now many years ago. When he is not in the woods or working as a real estate appraiser, Art enjoys fishing, watching football and UFC, and driving his motorcycle and ’67 Mustang.

    Practice year round
Plan you entrance and exit trails
    Don't target panic
    Be confident in your abilities
I attached my photos from this past fall. I shot an antelope with my rifle, snagged a paddlefish, shot a doe and donated it with my bow, shot a whitetail buck with my bow, and shot a whitetail buck with my rifle.
I am not sure what was mentioned last time, but the pronunciation is Doe-Tee for my last name. Most people say Dot-Tee, but I figured I would clarify.
I am hunter and an investment professional in Pierre, SD. I love that all central SD has to offer an outdoorsman and athlete. I compete in the South Dakota triathlon circuit and last year placed 4th overall in the state for women.
I started hunting 8 years ago in 2012. My first harvest was a mule deer doe with my bow, and ever since then I was hooked. I shot my first buck in 2014 with a rifle. Since then I have been interested in all forms of hunting and have recently been learning more about new forms of fishing. My spring and fall now consists of paddlefish snagging if a draw a tag.
