Late at night, in a quiet house, friendship comes into focus. Not the movie version of perfect brunches and four archetypes, but the real thing that takes energy to sustain and too often slips away in midlife.
In this episode of Let’s Talk with Coach Che Marville (a Top 10 Midlife Podcast in Canada), Che unpacks the “friendship recession” among women in midlife and the way perimenopause, stress, and loneliness amplify each other. She reflects on her mother’s model of community, the research showing that friendship is a form of medicine, and the small rituals that help rebuild connections.
This is a conversation about women, friendship, community, mental health, resilience and why we can’t navigate midlife alone.

In this episode of Let’s Talk, Coach Che sits down with financial expert Michael Yasny, known as the Financial Fixer, to explore the real relationship between money, resilience, and reinvention in midlife.
Money stress feels heavier at this stage of life: careers shift, family responsibilities pile up, and the need to “get it right” intensifies. Michael brings three decades of experience in financing, factoring, and entrepreneurship, sharing why so many women stop after hearing “no,” how to find options beyond the bank, and why underpricing is the slow path to burnout.
This isn’t just about dollars and cents it’s about value, courage, and the belief that starting over is still possible.

Dear Friends,
Before we hear from Ovid himself, we sit down with his wife of more than sixty years, Verona Jackson. Together, they’ve carried over a century of lived experience rooted in love, service, and resilience.
In this preview, Aunt Verona recalls the day she got the call: just months after arriving in Canada, Ovid had suffered an industrial accident and lost his eye. What could have ended their dreams became instead another turning point, met with the steadiness and resolve that defined their generation.
Her memory sets the stage for Ovid’s reflections: a life shaped not by setbacks, but by the quiet decision to keep moving forward.

Dear Friends,
You’ve likely never heard of him, but you should. Now in his mid-80s, former mayor and Member of Parliament Ovid Jackson looks back on a life that carried him from the banks of the Berbice River in Guyana to the front lines of history, including standing at the end of apartheid and witnessing South Africa’s first free vote. Patience. Courage. Hope told by someone who was there. 🎙️ #LetsTalkPodcast
In this episode, Ovid shares the extraordinary path that shaped him: from England’s classrooms in 1958, to the basketball courts as a national athlete for Guyana, to Canada, where an industrial accident left him partially blind just months after arriving. Instead of slowing down, he went further, becoming Owen Sound’s first Black mayor, the first Liberal in a century to win Bruce–Grey, and representing Canada on the world stage from Nelson Mandela’s 1994 victory in South Africa, to monitoring elections in Palestine, to speaking at the United Nations.
At home, he stood with Walkerton through its water crisis and chaired critical transport security talks in the wake of 9/11. His leadership philosophy? “Turn the dial for each person and get the gold out.”
This is a story of breaking barriers, serving with integrity, and shaping the Canada we know today, a story remarkable enough to be unforgettable, yet somehow at risk of being lost.
P.S. Full disclosure, he’s my uncle, which is why I know his story.
Listen now, and share with someone who believes leadership is about service, not power.
Until next time,
Coach Che
What does it take to serve with humility, break barriers, and represent your country on the world stage all while living with a disability?
In this episode, we meet Ovid Jackson: born on the banks of Berbice, Guyana, a top student invited to England in 1958, a national basketball player for Guyana, and later an immigrant to Canada who lost his right eye just months after arriving.
Instead of stepping back, Ovid stepped up, becoming Owen Sound’s first Black mayor, the first Liberal in a century to win Bruce–Grey, and representing Canada as an election monitor in South Africa during Nelson Mandela’s 1994 victory and in Palestine. He stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Walkerton during its water crisis and chaired critical airport security talks after 9/11.
Ovid shares the philosophy that guided him: “I see people as people. We waste too much energy being at odds with each other.” He reflects on a lifetime of leadership without ego. This is more than one man’s story; it’s a portrait of the Canada we’ve been, and the Canada we can be again.

Claim Your Brain: When Crisis Becomes a Calling
A soulful conversation with Jocelyn Pepe for Women’s Pulse
A few weeks ago, I had the honour of sitting down with author, mental health researcher, and wellness strategist Jocelyn Pepe on Let’s Talk. Today, I’m thrilled to share the video of that conversation because this one deserves to be seen and heard.
Jocelyn’s story is one of grace under fire, of using adversity as raw material for transformation. Years ago, we sat at a conference together, talking about dreams, fear, and the desire to create meaningful change. She told me then:
“I want to write a book that helps people understand they can heal and to remind them that they are not beyond repair. That their mind is powerful.”
And now, she’s done precisely that.
Her book, Claim Your Brain, is not just a workbook; it’s a reset for real people living real lives. It’s for those of us who are quietly holding everything together while silently falling apart.
In our conversation, Jocelyn shares the pivotal moment that changed everything: a traumatic brain injury that shattered the illusion of “doing it all” and forced her into radical self-awareness, emotional honesty, and deep nervous system healing.
We talked about:
What struck me most was how Jocelyn turned her pain into purpose. And not just a purpose but a movement. There’s a program coming out of the book, not just for adults, but for children, too.
And to be a small part of that journey? It’s one of the great privileges of my work.
