1996年的11月23號，一架伊索比亞航空的961號班機，因為三名尋求政治庇護的男子在飛機升上高空時發動劫機，過程中因為飛機燃油耗盡無法及時飛到機場跑道而在海上墜毀，造成機上人員共125人死亡的悲劇。
