Books about Black Lives Matter and antiracism have been flying off the shelves of Multnomah County libraries. But how do you build the best anti-racist reading list? Kirby McCurtis, library manager at Multnomah County, says it’s important to include Black fiction, and stories about Black joy. McCurtis has led a Black Storytime group at the Multnomah County Library, and taught a workshop on speaking to preschoolers about race. She shares her perspective on the power of fiction in helping people become antiracist, and the role of libraries in the Black Lives Matter movement.
