A New Classic

Wayne does a fantastic job of distinguishing the difference between gathered (corporate) and scattered (personal/all-of-life) worship, but goes one step further and articulates how gathered and scattered worship interact and actually fuel each other. He doesnât stop there though. He actually goes on to explain and give examples of what all-of-life worship looks like, as well as addresses tough questions like who gets to decide how we do things in our gathered time?

This book also isnât written primarily for those in music leadership, but for all believers. His engaging, conversational writing style makes it easy to understand, yet focuses on the heart matters of worship.

I think Bigger could become a âclassicâ read for worship. Make sure to put it at the top of your worship reading list!

Time to Upgrade our Worship Conversations

Bigger by Wayne Stewart is a wonderful book calling us out on the smallness of our worship conversations. I'm thinking about handing it out to every worship consumer who attends our church. Of course, I could also be proactive and get this into their hands before "service" turns into "serve us." Surely God has something more, something bigger for us to consider as we seek to give Him the glory due His name. Kevin J. Navarro, author of The Complete Worship Leader (Baker Books, 2001) & The Complete Worship Service (Baker Books, 2005).

Stewart has some bright perceptions and insightful moments, but the work suffers from the confusion of calling many different things the same thing... worship, worship, worship and worship... and trips into the difficulty of being muddy and hard-to-differentiate.

I did appreciate the work done here, it helps to steer other writers to the task at hand in 'going bigger'. A stepping-stone work in a large lake of modern mud.

An insightful and practical exploration of God's call to a life of worship

Worship is so central to the message of the Bible, yet if you ask 20 different people what worship is, you will probably get 20 different answers. Wayne does a great job in creating a Biblically-informed definition of worship that is simple and repeatable. He takes us to the 30,000 foot view of the grander, "Bigger" vision of the call to worship. But he doesn't just leave us there. The second part of the book brings us back down to the ground and teaches us how to apply this Bigger vision of worship in our everyday lives - as we gather together on a weekly basis, and as we scatter and live out the rest of our lives.

Informative, Enlightening and Worth Re-reading

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book - an apologetics based dissertation I think. But although it could be read as such, it is a much deeper, historic and educational document covering so many aspects (factual and perception) of the Abrahamic faiths, that are of interest to anyone who is a believer of those 3 faiths as well as Atheists, Agnostics and New Agers!

I have listened to it in its entirety 1 times. I intend to listen to it again, and I'm minded to purchase the Kindle edition, because there are SO MANY quotable quotes, that are on point and worthy of repeating.

This is a very current edition, up to 2015, so it's very relevant to today's events. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Everyone should hear it.

Important book, wise and timely

Jonathan Sacks has a marvellous voice. Loved it on the radio, said I could listen for hours. Now I have. He is a man of broad learning and on matters ecumenical he is always intelligent, considered and persuasive.

This analysis of the causes of violence executed "in the name of God", as well as in pursuit of a pseudo-religious ideology is convincing, wide-ranging, and sometimes surprising.

Unfortunately this book will not be read by fundamentalists of any stripe, and militant atheists will continue to regard people of faith as culpable of every atrocity in history (including those of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao, maybe even Attila the Hun and Nero) on the basis of a disingenuous reading of the Bible.

Sacks makes a sound case for human diversity, for the wisdom of avoiding hatred of former oppressors (Moses tells the Israelites not to bear rancour against Egyptians), and rejecting hatred, which destroys the hater more than the hated.

Wow!! I have never been someone who cries easy, I cannot stop the tears. I encourage anyone who needs from God, not just healing, to read this!! I'm buying the hard copy also, so that I can share with loved ones! Go God!!!

First i am glad your kids turned out well

the writer exclaims if you need "faith" this is the book for you. quite a statement. First i am glad your kids turned out well. but my suspicions were peeked when a money trail became eveident. Dr's do make mistakes. but you will very rarely hear of one admitting to a mistake. the problem i have with this book is, it seems to be the same ol cliches of pray hard and God hears = Faith. So you give a happy ending because as you say "Faith". What of those who now are devastated because according to you they have no faith,(if only I could have stronger Faith, whats wrong with me God, What am I doing wrong to have such little faith.) God is not listening, because of weak faith according to your implications. And it this 'Faith' expectation, is where it was the writer lost me. To me Faith is not a means to something futher, it is it's own end. To have Faith is already to come alive. Faith is the ability to accept this life and welcomes it happily even when nothing else comes with it, and when everything else is taken away. While I do not doubt your sincerity, i see this as yet another book that has betrayed man's inner spirit. Turning us over like Samson, hair cut off,eyes dug out,to turn the mill of a self-frustrating, self-destroying pop church culture.
