When everyone wants a small short woman Mariella is left out. She is having trouble finding a man she wants that wants her. She is taller than most men and men being men do not like a women looking down on them. Their poor ego cant take it. Her parents have decided they will pick a man for her he is old and not what she wants. She decided after reading a mail order bride ad there is one man that does interest her. They write back and forward until the day her parents tell her she will marry someone they picked. She decides to make a run for it leaving all her wealth behind it isnt important she doesnt need much. As Mariella and Will get to know each other they decide they will meet. With her parents decision the meet date is moved up. The question is will they marry and if so how will her family deal with the issue.

Mr. Taylor does a wonderful job of narration from the many different characters to the feel of emotions. You never are in doubt just who is talking or what they are feeling. I found both his female and male voices to be a delight from the strong male to the soft female you could really feel the pain, sorrow, and happiness he gives them. I heard no background noise or any places where the volume changes. There are no repeating of words just a wonderful delightful listen. If any breaks where taken I could not tell. His voice is strong and clear giving you a delightful listen. His performance is outstanding from the emotion to his voices he really make the story come alive. He is a very talented narrator that pulls the listener in giving a very vivid listen that you can picture the scenes in your mind.

I enjoyed this plot it was very entertaining. The characters are wonderful it was fun watching them fall in love and just how all that played out. If you are looking for a short sweet clean romance than this mail order bride might just be for you.

Karla Gracey writes wonderful mail order bride books. This one is as good as all her other ones. I enjoyed listening to this audible. Anyone who enjoys a good mail order bride book will love this one.

As always Alan Taylor's narration is excellent. He has become one of my favorite narrators.

Enjoyable Clean Romances

This is a nice collection of short stories. Each well written story has a clean romance with lessons learned along the way. They are the perfect "feel good " stories to listen to while commuting or working etc. The narration was beautifully done and definitely added to the enjoyment.

Good set of stories

I got this book via audiobook boom. This book was four stories of young ladies who strove for independence and love during the turn of the twentieth century. The men that they met and fell in love with had mothers who wanted to choose their brides but they chose someone who was just right for them and each had to go against their parents and marry the one they loved not the one someone else thought was suitable for them. Both women and men were strong of character and faith. The narrator was very good and added to the story.

Four short stories about women at the turn of the century. Unique stories, wonderful narration and definitely worth a listen.

Really enjoyable historical romance, 4 short stories beautifully narrated by Rebecca Wilder.

NYC female newspaper reporter in the 1880s finds love in London.

This is more interesting than a lot of the HRs I've been reading lately. For one thing, it begins in 1880s NYC and from there moves to London, has an intrepid young woman reporter Lizzie Drury as heroine and Sir Gideon Langham, former reporter and now successful owner of several London papers, as hero.

It seems that Lizzie, writing as Trudy Tildon, has investigated and uncovered enough crimes and scandals in NYC that she has come to Sir Gideon's attention in England. Sir Gideon has made the trip to the U.S. to recruit reporters for his London papers and Lizzie is on the short list. They meet in an interesting manner, while she is undercover, and from there the action moves to London. Lizzie can't pass up his job offer with good and steady pay, a job offer that has to be a twofer since Oyster, her loveable, gruff, self-appointed bodyguard, has to come also.

Crime, mystery and danger find them in London, as well as an unwelcome attraction between Lizzie and Sir Gideon, who's supposed to be marrying a society woman any time now. The story moves along nicely, has a good mystery, interesting characters and good writing. And at 99 cents it's a real bargain.

The name Kate Rothwell sounded familiar to me and a little trip to her author's page here reminded me why. It's her 2004 romance SOMETHING WONDERFUL which I see has now been released in e-format. It's the 1880s NYC romance of a policeman and the woman he rescues who doesn't want to reveal her identity, but, hint, hint, she's an heiress with a secret. That too is a more unusual HR romance, good for when you're tired of earls and dukes and London ballrooms.

Good historical romance with something different

This charming book is reminiscent of Laura Lee Guhrke's Girl Bachelor series featuring Victorian-era ladies who work for a living. The heroine, Lizzie Drury (writing under the name Trudy Tilden) is a struggling but moderately successful New York reporter, one of the early muckrakers. Sir Gideon Langham, a former reporter and now the owner of several London newspapers, wants to hire Lizzie to work for him, and since things are getting rather dangerous for her in New York, she agrees.

I love period pieces

I love period pieces, France, romance and adventure/mystery. This book brings it all together beautifully! I felt like I was right there alongside our dear Catherine on her journey. It's well written and researched. I hope to see more from this author.

Loved the Setting and the Story!

Really enjoyed this! It has some twists in the plot that keep you wondering. Gives you an entirely different view of the French Revolution. It's well written so I hope there's a sequel for Andre or her sister Elise.

Great Read!

For some reason I am really enjoying the Harlequin Historical romance novellas of late. The last two I have purchased and read have been great! Lord Havelock's List and this one - The Rake's Bargain are both a nice, easy read with really sweet stories. You will like them, I'm sure.

A love story for the ages.

This book is a GEM! This story is so lovely and beautiful, I want everyone to stop what they are doing and read it! My heart is completely full, Sophie and Charlie have burrowed themselves into the very marrow of my being. As soon as the tears cleared enough I was on my computer ordering myself a paperback copy of Back To Yesterday because I needed to own it, like it owned me.

"I wanted to explain, to tell her that, since meeting her, my heart was in jeopardy of ruin, and she could be the one to ruin me. I wanted to tell her that when she plowed into me that day in the diner that she had leveled me in more ways than one. I wanted to tell her all of that, yet I couldn't tell her any of it. I needed more time to ease her into it."

Back to Yesterday is one of the most captivating love stories I have had the pleasure reading. Like Sophie did to Charlie, this book did to me- it plowed into and completely leveled me. Their love story is one for the ages. I didn't want to let this book go, I didn't want to say good-bye to Sopie and Charlie. Goodness, I'm tearing up again just thinking about them! This book took me on such a journey- I felt like I was living everything Charlie and Sophie went through.

I don't know how some books can be so simple and pure, yet so incredibly profound in their simplicity. Pamela Sparkman honestly weaved magic when she wrote this story. Back to Yesterday is breathtaking and utterly stunning, it's truly remarkable.

"I'm ever letting go of you," he said, stroking my hair. "Understand? I'm never letting you go. So don't let go of me. Okay? You and I, we're in this together."

Oh don't you worry Charlie, I'm never letting you and Sophie go.

What an outstanding story this was!!

Immediately that prologue grabbed me and planted the need to see how it came about and how it plays out. Of course, after reading the prologue and seeing Sophieâs reason for her apprehension with any romantic involvement with Nick, it was easy to draw conclusions from. But that wasnât the point of the story. This was truly a love story. Breaking down Sophieâs walls. Nick being a stand up type of guy.

This fourth book in the series is filled with romance, intrigue, suspense and historical content. Chris Karlsen takes you into Medieval times with flair and accuracy while weaving a story difficult to put down until the end! Electra, Emily and Roger will win your heart as will many of the other characters in this book. I enjoyed this book tremendously and highly recommend it, as well as the others in the series. You won't regret picking this one up! Trudy Knoedler does an okay job of narrating.

awesome!

I loved this book! I could have finished it in one sitting but I didn't want it to end! I love imperfect characters, wounded warriors and damaged heroes and heroines who work to adapt and overcome what they can and then get on with life. This book is well written with beautiful colorful dialogue and descriptions the suck you in. I could see the whole story as I read it. Wonderful!

so wonderfully written. Ms Dee has a gift for creating seamless stories. ones that can transport you to another time and place. and each one so different from the last. this was sweet, with some nail biting moments thrown in. a good, quick read.

Scarred Hearts is Bonnie Dee writing in her inimitable style, and at her absolute best.

There is nothing unusual about the setting, well if you were around the Kentucky area in 1919 I suppose you may disagree, but I wasn't so I am happy with the vision Bonnie gave me. The love story that develops from the down-trodden and down-hearted pairing in this book grabs you by the emotional short and curly's and doesn't let you go.

"You aint no shadow to your brothers in my eyes."

I loved the relationship between Shadow and Lettie, both of them in their own ways, social outcasts. Lettie through her mothers past, and her own indiscretions, and Shadow due to the fact he has returned from war a changed man, outside and in. The little things they both do for the other, brings a slow burn to the whole story, and the climax, although you can see it coming from pretty much the beginning of the book has you nervously reading on in the hope that it won't turn out the way you are thinking it will.

There was sadness in her eyes, as if she hid bruises underneath her tough skin.

I don't think it is a secret that I am a massive fan of this authors work. Even an average book by Bonnie Dee beats most others out their for originality and damn good writing. Scarred Hearts goes beyond average, it hints on excellence. I loved it - the setting, the build up, and the development of the plot and the characters, everything was perfectly paced and the end... Beautiful.

Hard to believe they'd shared the same world but never talked in all these years.

It was such an interesting story. With such complex characters and so deep emotions this story really left you wanting for more. It was no easy to love someone that by everyone standards should have better but who should decide what's better the sociaty or your own heart?.

Some secrets need to be kept

We return to the special, secret Little finishing school at the Ashby. Eliza discovers that her training might be in vain when the man who placed her there decides that she is not the one he wishes to wed. Her emotions are torn and her trust broken. Looking for a finishing school for his own sister, he had no idea that two separate schools exist beneath the same roof. Think Before Acting

This is another story in the ongoing Ashley series. Ashley is half true finishing school and half training academy to prepare "littles" for their papas. This installment is a bit different than the others I've read so far. Eliza is a little who was brought in by her finance but he called off the wedding so she is left adrift. Charley is an up and coming journalist looking for a school that will give his younger sister the advantages needed to make a good match. He accidentally stumbles on Eliza and is intrigued, curious, and a bit concerned. While it turns right round in the end I didn't feel this one was quite up to a five star rating. Charley is often insensitive using his career to first bully his way in the door in the first place. Then again thinking about his career more than the people who he should be caring about like his sister and his new little Eliza he buts both of them and many others at risk. Also, while I know that no kink has a one true way I was never sure where Eliza really stood in her own feelings. At times she seems to embrace and seek out her little life but the next is really being pushy and aggressive in her relationship with Charley.
