Today Dan sits down with a good buddy of about 10 years now. The worlds kindest, gentlest Cuban baseball nerd. Roger runs a show called The Tigers Minor League Report where he covers the minor league system of the Detroit Tigers as well as the Big Club in Detroit. He also wrights for Fansided.com covering baseball prospects.

Roger is not much of a political guy. Which is a big reason for the discussion in the first place since doing what we do, we have tendency to fall into a wormhole of hyper political and hyper cultural discourse. Often forgetting the pulse of every day America. And Roger is just that: Every day America. He is the average, everyday American that is trying to pursue what he loves, make a living, feed himself, his family, and his little wiggle-butt of a pitbull, Lucy. He’s not terminally online doom scrolling for the next culture war explosion.

Roger and Dan discuss hispanic politics. And how polling numbers continue to show that hispanics are continually more disaffected and politically homeless all the time. It’s a demographic that isn’t afraid to tell the Democratic Party that identity politics aren’t what they care about. And their personal history plays a roll. It also doesn't mean that hispanic voters have gone "Right Wing" all of a sudden, either. So, keep your pants on.

They talk about race and how in his experience, hispanic voters don’t relate very well to the pushing identity politics. And the crazy idea that maybe racism isn’t just a white, European phenomenon. What?!... Yea.

Dan and Corey sit down and discuss our two interviews on the subject of Graphic Packaging and it's alleged poisoning of Kalamazoo, Michigan via harmful emissions from their plant on the east end of the city.

After interviewing lead activist, Brandi Crawford and Kalamazoo local and environmental scientist, "Redditor Scott", we learned a lot about covering environmental issues. The fact that historical environmental racism and classism is still causing issues in 2023. The idea that the EPA and other agencies charged with ensuring the environmental well being of Americans don't do the best job of job of publicly holding these corporations accountable. But how much of it is collusion, incompetence, or bureaucracy isn't always the easiest question to answer.

And when environmental issues are taking place in a town, we all know that the physical health of its residents should be the most important thing. But what about the overall perception of the town in question? What about the reputation a town receives when it is known as a "pollution ridden wasteland"? Is it fair for residents of the town to resent the coverage it's receiving and painting it in a negative light?

This is part two of a three part series on what we thought would be about crony capitalism, the poisoning of a midsized midwestern town by a corporation that has captured the governing bodies that oversee it.

But after a post to the Kalamazoo subreddit asking Redditors if they had any information or would like to speak with us... we heard from "Scott". Scott is not his real name as he has requested to remain anonymous. Which we have chosen to respect. 

Scott has a BS in environmental science with a specialty in hazardous materials and resides in Kalamazoo. His responses to some of our previous commentary on Graphic Packaging and their alleged "poisoning" of the city of Kalamazoo thru toxic emissions got Scott a little heated with us at first. He made his grievances known in the aforementioned Kalamazoo subreddit.

So we did what we do. Asked Scott to speak with us. And he accepted our invitation.

While part one dealt with activist, Brandi Crawford. A passionate woman whose goal is to hold Graphic Packaging responsible for their criminal poisoning of poor communities around Kalamazoo by any means necessary, and not just Graphic Packaging, but any overseeing official or body who may have a hand in the company not being held to account to this point... Scott has a different view.

It's not that he believes Graphic Packaging is a company that is great with their emissions standards. Far from it. He, like Brandi, believes that Graphic Packaging is emitting harmful emissions into the community. But let's just say that Scott's opinion on how the blossoming story is being handled is not his favorite. 

While Brandi and Scott agree in principle... It's not always just about the accountability of the alleged polluter, but the overall health and outside perception of a community.

The first interviewee is a lead activist against Graphic Packaging who has recently brought lawsuits on not only Graphic Packaging, but also several State and local officials for their rolls. She wants to help people get away from the area.

Brandi Crawford is the lead activists against Graphic Packaging. She is also an activist for Environmental Justice, Civil Rights, Climate change, and some others. Brandi has been battling for and has since gotten lawsuits filed against Graphic Packaging since we spoke with her.
