  • Mayor Paul TenHaken: Early Riser, Big Impact - A Morning Routine for Success, Dealing with Anger (South Dakota #6)
Adam is back for this month's South Dakota series episode with Paul TenHaken, the mayor of Sioux Falls (South Dakota's largest city)! Mayor TenHaken first took office in 2018 and is currently serving his second (and final) term. He has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments for the city, which was named one of the best run cities in the country in 2021! But more importantly, Paul has done so while being vocal about his faith and prioritizing his growing family. During their conversation, Paul and Adam discuss how rising early (from cold plunges to reading the Bible) has made a huge, positive impact on how they take on challenges throughout their day. They also talk about how to lead with purpose, why we should seek significance over financial success and practical ways to keep a level head. • Leaving Jesus & The Church - Why You Should Consider Staying with Blaine Eldredge
A recent Pew Research Center study estimates that 31% of people raised in the Church become unaffiliated between ages 15 to 29 and an additional 7% of people raised in the Church become unaffiliated later in life, after the age of 30. Why is this happening? Why should a person consider staying? Is there anything that can or should be done? In today's conversation, I sit down with author and teacher Blaine Eldredge. Blaine grew up in a home with parents who are both well-known Christian leaders. You might be familiar with his dad, author John Eldredge. Even though he grew up in a "Christian home", Blaine went through periods of time wrestling with his faith and exploring other options. Listen in to hear Blaine's thought provoking response to why many are leaving the Church and what can be done about it. Grab a copy of Blaine's book The Paradise King here. • Rough Cut Thought: Celebrity Pastors
This second episode of the Rough Cut Thought series is about Celebrity Pastors, and more specifically about making assumptions. When I say "celebrity pastors" I mean the guys and gals you probably follow on Instagram—the ones with huge platforms, podcasts, and books you've maybe even read. (Or for you, it could be celebrity leaders or artists.) But more than my thoughts about celebrity pastors, this episode is about making assumptions and living a life of integrity. I hope these thoughts will encourage and challenge you. • Rough Cut Thought: Getting Honored By Others
As we start a brand new year, today I am kicking off a brand new series on the podcast called Rough Cut Thoughts. These episodes will share my unpolished thoughts on leadership, faith, & life that are still a work-in-progress inside of me. So instead of ending with a pretty bow, these episodes might end with more questions than answers. In that case, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what I share. This first Rough Cut Thought is on Receiving Honor From Others. Which approach will backfire bigtime? How can we get honor from others? Why do we even want honor in the first place? And what does God have to say about it all?
