Ultimately, our talents were not given merely for personal success, recognition, or financial gain. They are meant to be developed alongside our character and understanding so that they can eventually benefit others and serve society.

Why can years of spiritual study still lead to disappointment, resentment, and doubt when life does not unfold the way we hoped?

We may believe that because we are studying sincerely, our wishes should be fulfilled or our circumstances should improve. But Seuseungnim explains that wanting something beyond what our present level and environment can support is itself a form of greed.

Rather than pursuing what we want, he teaches us to develop ourselves within the circumstances Grand Nature has already provided. Receiving wealth, opportunity, or responsibility before we are prepared for it may not be a blessing at all—it can create even greater difficulties.

What should we actually write in a gratitude journal? And how can the practice become something deeper than simply listing the good things that happen to us?

In this episode, Seuseungnim explains that a gratitude journal should be simple and sincere. There is no need to make our words sound impressive or to force ourselves to feel grateful. We should simply record what we genuinely feel—even if that means writing, “I have not yet found what I am grateful for.”

But Seuseungnim takes the meaning of gratitude much deeper. The greatest gratitude, he explains, comes when we are given the opportunity to learn something we did not know and grow through that understanding. Can you be truly humble and confident at the same time? Or does becoming more humble mean holding yourself back?
