  • 7 - Getting Better at BEING Great
    Getting Better at Being Great
    1. Don’t focus on the other
    2. Adding value by adding value
    3. Failing in love with the work of doing the work (mastery trumps passion)
    4. If you’re really getting better, you’ll be in demand
I’ve noticed several in my feed offering themselves as a solution to a problem
I get it, I really do - but, consider this -
If you were so good you can’t be ignored, then why aren’t you the first call from your clients associates (word of mouth advertising)
This one has haunted me since I’ve began
I absolutely hate self-promotion in any form
There’s a line from a wisdom book, “let another praise you and not your own lips”
Another says, “live in such a way that even those who don’t like you have nothing negative to say of you”
The line, “So good you can’t be ignored,” is game changer for me EVERYDAY
If I’m really as good as I say, or think I am, then I shouldn’t have an issue finding work in my space
Note to those starting out in a niche -
*Offer your work for free - and do an amazing job
It won’t be long before you’re naming your own price, and people will be glad to pay it
And for the love of God:
    1- don’t embellish
    2- don’t beg
In the words of one who’s gone before me,
“Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated.”

  • 4 - Mandy & Zoe

In this episode, you'll hear from Zoe, a 16 year old young woman, and Mandy, Zoe's foster mom.  Zoe is transparent when she's faced along the way, the hurdles she is overcoming, and the road ahead.

    A note from John...

When we recorded this, we did so with the caveat that at any time we would scrap it for production and rerecord at a later date.

By the end of our conversation, there was something here which captured me.

I don't know if it was Luke and Mandy's big ol' hearts for opening up their home to serving kiddos or if it was Zoe's amazing story of triumphant mixed with an understanding of the road ahead that gripped me.  Either way, I'm grateful that we were able to push this out to you guys.  I hope you're encouraged as I am by Luke, Mandy, and Zoe's story of faith, hope, and love.

    To Love!

    John

  • 3. MINISODE - No One Is Going To Do It For You

Today, John is discussing the verbiage we all tend to use, and that is “I can’t”. He explains how it just DOESN’T belong in your category. We hope from today, when you catch yourself using the “I can’t” statement you will turn that around and make it into a CAN!

  • 2. Derrick Allen - What It Takes To Become a Professional Athlete

I first met Derrick Allen when I was 14 years on a car ride from our neighborhoods to the gym where Coach Steve Stewart came and picked us up.  Coach Stewart taught us a lot about basketball, but the biggest takeaways were not always inside the lines.

Now, having spent a storied career playing professional hoops in Europe, Derrick has become Coach Allen where he is shaping the lives of young men learning to live lives that counts.

Please join me in the honor of welcoming my life-long friend, the guy who traded elbows with me in the paint, and the young man who has changed the legacy for his entire family - Mr. Derrick Allen.
