Walk in the Light 1 John 2-6

John 2:1-17

Redeeming the time, God expects you to figure it out!

In light of Abraham's waiting and longing, God condescends to him in covenant to assure him of sure and certain promises. By pointing Abraham to the heavens to number the stars, and by walking through the pieces in a covenantal oath ceremony, God points him to the promised offspring to come, Jesus Christ, through whom faith is accounted as righteousness.

The passage in Mark 9 shows Jesus revealing His true glory to strengthen disciples who are struggling to grasp the cost of His mission. On the mountain, Christ shines with uncreated light, speaks with Moses and Elijah, and is affirmed by the Father—giving His followers a breathtaking glimpse of who He truly is. But when they descend, they immediately face chaos, unbelief, and a demon they cannot cast out. Through it all, Jesus teaches that His path to victory runs through suffering, and that their strength must come from faith in Him—not themselves. This message calls us to lift our eyes from the mundanity and hardships of life, behold the glory of Christ, and cling to Him with the humble prayer: "I believe; help my unbelief."

This sermon examines the plagues of hail, locusts, and darkness in Exodus as a call to self-examination and genuine repentance. The central message contrasts Pharaoh's repeated hardening of his heart with the mercy God extends to those who seek shelter in Jesus Christ. It emphasizes that true faith requires a change of action, not just verbal confession, and warns against the spiritual blindness that rejects God's light. The preacher urges the audience to intercede for the lost and to ensure their children are grounded in Christian truth rather than worldly success. Ultimately, the message asserts that only Christ provides the final refuge from judgment, and believers must respond to His voice before it is too late.
