In John 8:21–30, Jesus is speaking to people who were struggling to understand who He really was. He tells them that He is going away, and that if they continue in unbelief, they will die in their sins. The message is simple but very serious: we cannot afford to ignore Jesus or take Him lightly. Jesus came from the Father, and He was calling people to believe in Him. The problem was not that Jesus had failed to make Himself known; the problem was that many people were unwilling to believe. Even today, Jesus calls us to look beyond what we see around us and trust Him for who He truly is. Jesus then speaks about being "lifted up," pointing to the cross. What looked like defeat would actually become the greatest demonstration of who He was and why He came. Jesus knew that the Father was with Him, and He remained obedient even when He faced rejection and suffering. And as He spoke these things, many people believed in Him. That is the challenge this passage leaves with us: Will we believe in Jesus and trust Him, or will we continue living without Him? Jesus has made the way clear; our responsibility is to respond in faith.
