Lately I’ve been navigating what to do when your inner critic gets too loud. This conversation started after my best friends reflected something back to me - that I’ve been carrying a weight of self-criticism and sometimes don't realize just how heavy it is. Maybe you’ve felt that too. That quiet pressure to be better, do more, or get it right - you're not alone.

Today I’m sharing what the inner critic actually is, how it forms (often in childhood), the subtle ways it shows up in adulthood, and two ways I’m learning to respond. It’s a reminder that your worth was never meant to be earned through productivity, clarity, or doing things perfectly. We can learn a new way of relating to this voice through listening and understanding what it needs, and in time gradually shift its tone to one that is more compassionate.

So many of us learn to see ourselves through the lens of what we do for others - the roles we play, the support we give, the comfort we provide. But what happens when we pause and ask: who am I beyond all of that?

In this episode, I share an experience that reminded me how easy it is to tie our identity to how we show up for others… and how important it is to remember that we are lovable simply for being ourselves. We’ll explore the roles we often take on in relationships, why they’re hard to let go of, and what it feels like when those roles begin to shift.
