Like Mother, Like Daughter episodes

  • The Most Mushy Gushy Mother/Daughter Episode of All Time

This week in keeping with the warm and loving spirit of Valentine's Day our focus is on each other. We dive into the qualities we love and admire most about one another. Both Lauryn and Jamee were surprised by a couple of the compliments that were shared but most were pretty expected. All in all it was an absolute feel good episode. As always we ended by sharing what we are into for the week including, wait for it, Taylor Swift's new release of the song Love Story (Taylor's Version) and all things Fearless. Nothing like getting into an album initially released back in 2008! Yes, that's right 2008! Lauryn was a mere 8-year-old. Long before the days of college and COVID-19. Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy it!

Don't forget to stream Love Story (Taylor's Version) so you can support our girl!!!!

  • Long Story Short It Was A Bad Time: Our Relationships With Food, Body Image, Diet Culture, & More

This episode is definitely our most vulnerable and personal so please bare with us. This week we discuss our relationships with food, bodies, and dieting over the course of our lifetime. We share some of our biggest struggles that we faced while ingrained in diet culture and some of our restrictive and unhealthy habits that we are still working through today. Jamee has obviously had a longer history working through these struggles while Lauryn is relatively new. Both of us have had our fair share of struggles and have been there to support each other through the good, the bad and the ugly. We also briefly discuss our thoughts on intuitive eating--what we love about it and what we are still coming to terms with--and new ways we are reframing how we talk about our food choices and our bodies. This was definitely a long-winded journey to share what we have been through but we are excited to keep discussing this topic! In the future, we plan to share our strategies that we've been using going forward and ways that we are working to break out of diet culture each and every day.

  • It's Okay To Not Be Okay ft. Haley Epstein

This week on the pod we are so excited to be interviewing Haley Epstein! Haley is a junior in college and a firm advocate for mental health awareness. For the last few years, she has done a variety of speaking engagements entitled "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" where she shares her experience with mental health and the importance of starting the conversation. She is also the founder of the "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" Movement and has gained a strong following on social media for her braveness in opening up about her story and the tools she has learned along the way. We really enjoyed interviewing Haley and hearing more about how she got involved in the field. We also talk about how important it is to speak up against the stigma surrounding mental health and how parents can support their children in that process. • We Drank Diet Coke As Children But We Turned Out Just Fine

This week's episode is very short and sweet. We first started out by sharing our low, medium, and highlight of the week. We then go into this week's topic which is all about parenting and a brief psychology lesson. Jamee and Cory were the most supportive parents that definitely knew how to set limits with their kids, but they also gave us autonomy in certain areas, especially when it came to food, music, and TV. Although Lauryn may have been able to watch Glee and Spongebob when she was younger, she feels that she turned out just fine. Her parents struck that perfect balance of controlling and permissive where it counted and that's all that matters. And on top of that, some of these areas where her parents may have been more forgiving is where she learned the best life lessons about parenting and how she hopes to be with her family one day. The episode closes by sharing what their into for the week aka puzzles! We are excited for our 2020 recap in the next episode.

        • Talking About Taylor Swift For 59 Minutes Straight

Happy 31st birthday to our queen for-'evermore' Miss Taylor Alison Swift! We have been talking about doing this episode for so long and we figured in honor of her birthday and the drop of her newest album, we would finally do it. Even if you don't like Taylor or are in different that we highly encourage you to stick around and listen. We begin by sharing how we first got super into her and became swifties. We share why we love her in particular, share her unique writing and music style and all the amazing things she has done for the world. We then share our favorite songs, albums, and favorite lyrics of hers. And finally, we talk about what we're into which is her newest album "evermore"--sharing our initial thoughts, favorite songs so far, and how it compares to the rest of her work. We absolutely LOVED recording this episode and appreciate you bearing with us and ramble on and on about our favorite human.

After hearing this episode, we are sure you want to become a Swiftie. But we completely understand its overwhelming and you may not know where to start. As Lauryn discussed in the episode, she created a comprehensive playlist of her work that gives you a good intro and great sense of the vibe of each album. Feel free to check it out here and let us know your thoughts!
