Does your life have lots of ups and downs? Daniel's sure did? His home town was conquered twice! He lived in captivity. His friends faced persecution and he had to face the mouth of a hungry lion! But Daniel remained faithful to God through it all. If you want to learn the habits you need to build today to enable you to stand firm through good times and bad then this message is for you.

In Daniel 5 we read the story of King Belshazzar the last king of Babylon. In this story, we read of Belshazzar's demise at the hands of Darius the Mede and we see how his arrogant mocking of God lead to his death.

Contrasted to Daniel 4, this story teaches us we have a choice to make. Either we acknowledge God as sovereign King and humble ourselves before Him. Or we ignore God, like Belshazzar, and await God to humble us.

As we reflect on the life of King Nebuchadnezzar who receives yet another vision from God but refuses to heed its warning we're reminded of God's sovereign rule (control) over this world and our need to respond appropriately to that.

Sometimes it can be hard to keep your faith, especially when you're under pressure to give it up. The good news is you're not alone, God's people have always had to stand firm in their faith under pressure. In Daniel 3 we read how 3 men stood firm even when their lives were on the line and how God rescued them and sustained them. If you want to stand firm, learn from this story!
