Very excited about releasing this weeks episode as it is the very first conversation I've had with my guest not being based in the UK, which means Liner Notes has gone international!

My guest on this episode is Garry Schyman. Garry is a film, TV and video game composer with over 20 years experience in the industry which means he knows it pretty much inside out and that really comes across in the chat that we had. I know now, after listening back, that he had to dumb it down a bit for me, as I have very little technical musical knowledge or ability. Suffice to say, I spent the whole 45 minutes making mental notes of things to look into after the chat. So thank you to Garry for both his time and his patience. I hope you'll enjoy listening to Garry as much as I did, I could have quite easily picked his brains for the whole day but I had to condense our conversation down as much as possible. Hello everyone and welcome to episode #8, it's a pleasure to have you on board! If you're a new listener, then welcome to Liner Notes! In short, this is a podcast that features conversations with amazing new artists and I'll soon be branching out into having guests that work behind the scenes as well; such as people from record labels, composers and engineers etc.

 

This week's guest is Aiden Hatfield. Something of a jack of all trades, Aiden is a musician, business owner and mental health ambassador. He will be releasing the first single called 'This Is Never Ending' from his debut solo EP in January this year, with the full EP to follow in March. During the conversation, we talk about his songwriting process and how openly suffering with depression has influenced his lyrics. We also talk about his clothing brand, called In Music We Trust, and how that is designed to both raise awareness of and raise money for people that suffer from mental health issues; namely by donating 50% of the profits to the Mind Charity. Please note that this conversation was recorded in December 2018, any references to "next year" refer to this year (2019).

My guests on this week's episode are KYANOS, a psychedelic and jazzy four-piece from Bury St. Edmunds. They released their latest single 'Lost In Blue' earlier this year, and are currently working on getting the EP that the single is from, out into the world for our listening enjoyment. The band is a product of various old school friends coming together to create something new and fresh, and I personally think they have succeeded. Scattered across various towns, cities and universities, they are making use of what precious time they have together to constantly create new songs and dream up new ideas for the band. Now, I don't want to spoil the conversation, but they have a lot of good stuff in the pipeline!

This week's conversation is with Indie Funk Four piece Lobster Pot. They are unbelievably energetic and that 100% carries through to their music. Having released their EP called Chum earlier this year, they are currently writing new songs and getting to grips with doing all the band stuff that isn't necessarily playing the music. Initially conceived as a Paramore cover project, the band morphed into their now funky sound after discovering a shared love of said funk music. With all of them still in musical education, they still have all the time in the world, to take over the world.

My guests on this episode are The Bright Black, a Manchester based four piece indie soul band. They have released two singles this year, Midnight and Two, Two One, with a third due very soon. They are also, at time of recording, due to hit the road on their very own UK headline tour playing to fans that have paid specifically to see them, which as you'll hear in the conversation, they are very grateful for indeed. Having done their time in the trenches, playing gigs in obscure locations to obscure people, they are now being recognised as serious contenders, after playing support slots for house hold names such as The Fratellis and Razorlight. I think it's clear from the conversation that they have a genuine love of making music and I think whenever you talk to a person or people with a passion about something, then you can't help but be drawn into it.
