In this episode of Linked By Golf, host Ross McGuire sits down with one of Scottish golf’s most respected figures, Alan Tait.

Alan’s journey through the game is remarkable. From growing up at Irvine Bogside, to becoming Scottish Boys Champion, captaining Scotland to European Team Championship glory, and later holding the Carnoustie course record for 23 years, his story is packed with elite golf experiences.

Along the way, Alan shares what it was like to:

• Choose golf over football as a teenager

• Represent Scotland at boys, youth, and senior level

• Win major amateur championships

• Study and compete on a golf scholarship in the United States

• Earn a European Tour card

• Play alongside Tiger Woods and Ben Crenshaw at Carnoustie

• Transition from tour golf into leadership roles within the game

Alan also reflects honestly on the realities of professional golf, the mental resilience required at the highest level, and how his career evolved into influential roles at venues such as Westerwood, Dalmahoy, The Carrick at Loch Lomond, and beyond.

This is a thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation that blends Scottish golf history, elite performance, and life lessons from someone who has lived the game at the highest level.
