Probably my fave guy I've gotten to meet, and know, throughout my traveling microphone time. Each time we dive pretty deep into the ways and means of human existence. Sean reads some interesting articles and books on how/why certain consequences happen. Some are unintended consequences. Many (we think) are because of the pointedly self-serving. Yet those "leaders" speak quite syrupy to the people. And those people include us. I am happy that Sean speaks truth through his lyrics to those in power...and I wish more people would hear his words (let alone his music). Now please hear this. We recorded this in my car before their show in Battle Creek, MI on June 1, 2018. -Frank

For years I wanted to interview Justin Furstenfeld. I think I was shot down because either they were too big, or Justin was fully in his addiction mode. I have to believe that we connected at the right time on planet Earth. Such a giving gentleman with his time and his soul. His admitted life was so dark and dank, which makes his new(ly) found gratefulness is so beautiful. He radiates life. And hope. And genuine-ness. He leads Blue October with a spirit that you can touch when you see them live. We recorded this backstage before their show in Grand Rapids, MI on Sept 29, 2018. Get ready to face it. -Frank

My favorite part of meeting people is when they are nice. Grateful. Pleasant. And empathetic. And that is exactly how I describe the guys in 3 Doors Down. I’m sure that’s what sucked me in from the start, getting all that from gist of their lyrics...searching for a greater understanding of our time together on this here earth. This is from my microphone sit down with the lead singer, main lyricist, Brad Arnold. We recorded this in Grand Rapids, MI on November 4, 2011. Brad is honest from the get-go. What a great day. The day I get to put my traveling microphone in front of the Money Man. We did this during the day at his hotel, before his concert. Friendly, for sure. Timely, yep. Ready to go, you bet. And chatty, just what someone like me hopes for...and with meaning! Reminds me again that you can't take some lyrics for superficial granted. Eddie has songs that have topped the charts, and along the way found the bottom of life. But from what I can tell, he always kept his focus on what's important. and made it through. This was recorded in Grand Rapids, MI on February 27, 2011. Whatever you thought of Eddie Money before you hear this, you'll think more of him after listening in. -Frank

So I arrive at the venue to find this guy named Rhett Walker, and it took a minute because I had to wade through fans and maneuver backstage-ness. Immediately we were both grumbling ab the same thing...where are we gonna find a spot that’s not filled with interference? We found a bus, and hijacked the rear lounge. This was recorded in Lansing, MI on October 27, 2012. I hope you like this, as much as I like his music. -Frank

I love it when somebody actually takes time to know me, and even better, to remember me. I think that's pretty human. And I think Jonny Hetherington is a pretty special human. Since my first microphone time with the lead singer/main lyricist for Art Of Dying, I was hooked. On the songs. His energy. His positiveness. The deeper-than-you-think lyrics. His smile. Tyler Connolly was like, “You really wanna talk to me about my lyrics? …ok.” I don’t know, maybe I was one of the few that took note of Theory Of A Deadman because of the words. I think they are great, as you will hear. We started out talking exercise, which I also think caught him by surprise. I can’t say Sonny Sandoval and I became buds...but just listen [in] to this recorded conversation. It’s one of my faves. Sonny is the lead singer, main lyricist for POD, and he was laid back and thoughtful. You’ll hear it in his voice. I met him quickly a few years prior: same. And a couple other times since: same. That’s exactly what you hope for with any person...especially a “bud.” ha! We recorded this at WIIL ROCK’s 2008 AUGUSTFEST, which happened on the special day of Aug 9th. -Frank

I hoped. I wondered. I thought we were too far away from Guadalcanal Diary...but then my iPhone shuffled up some solo stuff from Murray Attaway. I was reminded how much his music and lyrics meant to me...mean to me still. I love his smarmy way, interspersed with soul gripping-ness as he weaves in and out of both. And this way of lacing lyrics helps me move through life. That's pretty much how our conversation went, and I loved it. We recorded this via Skype the morning of April 16, 2015. -Frank

I don’t think Kenny Wayne Shepherd gets kudos for his lyrics. Hey, I know his guitar work is primetime...completely top-shelf. Where I get sucked in is the transparency of his words.
