  • Evanescence...with Frank Jenks
I wonder how many interviews Ben Moody and Amy Lee did together in total? Well, this is one. And I’d like to tell you it was one of my best, but more accurately it was one of my first. Evanescence was about to skyrocket, and I could feel it. And it wasn’t much longer before Ben left in the middle of their world tour…I’d love to talk to him about that. So, I was in one microphone mode when I recorded this, I re-recorded my parts as best I could remember. Done in Grand Rapids, MI on May 21, 2003. -Frank

  • Sean Danielsen...with Frank Jenks
There have been many people in the music business who've done right by me, from all angles...and Sean Danielsen definitely leads the pack. Not only does he respect my time and questions, his music and lyrics pierces through to my core. To my truth indicator. I only hope he continues to produce something of note for years to come. Whatever that means...music, live performances, paintings, love, life...and I will be one who raises the flag for such a good man. I hope you enjoy our seventh time together with open microphones. This was recorded in Battle Creek, MI on November 15, 2014. -Frank

  • Billy Squier...with Frank Jenks
One of the first rock stars who embraced the idea that an in-depth interview was worth his time...if not my time. Billy Squier took the time to tell me that my approach was not only unique, but meaningful. Trust me, that stuck. Because people like Billy deserve to have their words paid attention to, and respected. This was my second interview with him, and very comfortable. It was recorded while he was out with Ringo Starr on July 12, 2008 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Enjoy. -Frank

  • Jon-Paul Bakaric/Bakaric...with Frank Jenks
So weird to me, I received this ep download from Bakaric…and I dug it. Big time. And I’m just cocky enough to ask if Jon-Paul would like to discuss his concoction of words he plastered over some really great music. And he did. Turns out, I could have basically driven to have this conversation! He lives in Michigan like me. This was recorded over Skype on November 12, 2014. Enjoy. -Frank

  • David Draiman/Disturbed...with Frank Jenks
I think Disturbed have been labeled with a black crayon...but not because those who do such things paid any attention to David Draiman's lyrics. The words he writes/sings/screams cut deep into those who cloak themselves in purity, yet are anything but! The light that Disturbed shines into dark places (including arenas!) is well intended, and well thought out. I've found Mr. Draiman quite amicable and progressive each time I've sat down with him and my traveling microphones. So if that makes him disturbed, I must be too. This was recorded in Battle Creek, MI on April 30, 2009. -Frank

  • Matt Thiessen/Relient K...with Frank Jenks
To think it's been ten years since "mmhmm" was released by Relient K...crazy! Yet, it's one of their most popular because of all the songs Matt Thiessen and I talked about here. Only one microphone in those days, and thankfully, I let Matt use it!! As per usual, Matt is sneaky with his answers, and I was fully immersed in his snarky (and poignant) lyrics. This was recorded in a small dressing room at DTE Energy Music Theatre, near Detroit, MI on May 13, 2005. -Frank

  • Dustin Kensrue/Thrice...with Frank Jenks
It’s nice when you get the point that people know you. Dustin Kensrue was thoughtful enough to know me. Maybe because I was early on the Thrice bus (albeit, a van). Maybe because I came prepared, and curious about how his faith was un-compromised in his lyrics. And I’m talking about a rock music world that begs for artists to not “get in spiritual stuff.” This was my final interview with Dustin before he decided to leave Thrice for a more real life. (Those are my words, not his.) This was recorded on their bus, outside The Intersection, in Grand Rapids, MI on October 25, 2011. -Frank

  • Charles Furney/Secret & Whisper...with Frank Jenks
We both leaned against a brick building, and talked. I asked. He answered. Honestly. I recorded. Charles Furney of (then) Secret & Whisper brought the goods on their record “Great White Tail” and I was hooked…with their hooks. I thought they nailed it, and were headed for greatness, if not bigness. It wasn’t three years later when they called “hiatus time.” I think the darkness he brings to light is quite insightful. This was recorded in Grand Rapids, MI on August 7, 2008. -Frank

  • Aaron Weiss/mewithoutYou...with Frank Jenks
I wasn’t the right person for this interview. Or maybe I was. I was on the cusp of thinking I understood Aaron Weiss’s ideas & thoughts throughout the lyrics of mewithoutYou. I was fooling myself. I introduced myself while he was caulking the windows of their bus. He said that he didn’t want to do the interview, but would because he had committed to it earlier. But he was in the middle of fixing their ride, and who wants to interrupt work?! I guess I did.......he was kind, and respectful of my ambition, and different than...I’m just gonna say different. This was recorded on a front stoop in Kalamazoo, MI, on 6.29.10. And I love it. -Frank

  • Shaun Morgan/Seether...with Frank Jenks
I had no idea what I was getting into. Oh, for sure I’d played Seether’s songs at full volume, and I knew Shaun Morgan wrote some pretty intense lyrics. But still, I walk in to meet him after a show, and he has a drink waiting for me. Um, suffice to say, I think if I would’ve finished it, I wouldn’t been able to finish the interview! Shaun was soft hearted and hard hearted. He’s lived through more than most will ever imagine. We recorded this in some locker room thing after an outdoor concert on June 11, 2011. And it is riveting from the get go. -Frank
