Very Cute

I got this for my four year old daughter for Christmas. She is in pre-k now and is starting to learn to read in preparation for Kindergarten next year. These books have been very good for her. She and I read them daily and work on sounding out words she knows.

A little simple.

It was OK, I feel a little hypocritical saying that a book in based in high school is a little shallow but that sums it up. Spoilers... a girl that can't help but read minds does not realize that one of her best friends 'likes' her, a girl that can toss a car into a tree is raped by a normal boy etc.

Justice League--the High School Edition

When Goth-chick Christine starts hearing voices while at school, she fears she may be loosing her mind--until she realizes that the "voices" are actually people's thoughts. At first, she thinks she's the only person at Thomas Jefferson High with special powers. Wrong! Turns out that Ethan, her hunky crush and captain of the football team, is the team's star player for a reason: he has the power of super-speed. After revealing their powers to one another, the two quickly become fast friends. Meanwhile, they discover that two other students have powers: snarky mean girl Savanah (gifted with super strength) and skateboarding loser Peter (able to shoot lightning out of his hands). Then, Ethan has an idea: why not form a super league? (Christine's initial reaction is less than enthusiastic.) And, as happens with the formations of all impromptu super leagues, the group eventually does come to loggerheads with a villain or two--one of them at prom, no less.

Been there done that, right? Actually, there's more to it than that! Not only does the author build up a nice plot, he also pays attention to character development. True, the characters do play off certain stereotypes (the Goth-chick, the jock, the snarky mean girl), yet each of them is distinct in his or her own way. (I can't tell you how pleased I was when Ethan, who, when we first meet him,seems to be a typical jock, is actually a really nice, smart guy who likes to drag his friends to ComicCon.) Overall, an enjoyable read.

The adventures of Christine and her friends in High School Heroes is the foundation for Mascia's High School Heroes series. At least three more volumes will follow.

Suprisingly fantastic!

I hate to say it, but the cover of this book was a definite turnoff for me. It's just not my style.

A great story that teaches kids to be themselves.

I love this story. My kids want me to read it over and over again. It's a fun adventure about a girl named Camille who loves lima beans. She doesn't want to be made fun of for liking lima beans so she doesn't eat them. In doing so, she starts to have weird, colorful, and crazy things happen to her body. In the end, she realizes it's better to be herself.

A favorite for my 3 and 5 year old daughters

I have to defend this book since my 3 and 5 year old daughters absolutely love it and its illustrations. My daughters love pictures and books with anything related to fantasy. It may help that we don't have a TV in the house so they don't know what is scary or not (at least not yet). They actually found the illustrations to be hilarious and I personally love the story line.

Such a Favorite!

Kids from kindergarten and up love this book. The illustrations are incredible, and the book offers a subtle message about standing up for your personal likes and dislikes.

Good story, cheap book

Great story. Physical book is poor quality. I realize that for $4 that it wouldn't be great, but the binding started splitting the third time I read it.

Michael Morpurgo is such an awesome author.

I've now read several of Morpurgo's books. He is such a wonderful story teller. His story's just as lovely for adults aswell as for children. Listened to this book in one sitting. Superbly narrated by Paul Cgequer.

Ok poems all in rhyme, all for children

Yes, all for children who have their brains removed by pod people or who are wearing drapes being taught by the likes Julie Andrews, with a mother like Florence Henderson or Shirley Jones. Not that poems were bad, excellent writers wrote them, just not read together at the same time. Please!

The fifth in the Moongobble and Edward series opens with sprightly music, which reappears, along with appropriate sound effects, throughout. Edward, who narrates the fantasy, along with being Moongobble's trusty assistant, has an appealing and realistic young boy's voice. Moongobble, Oggledy Nork, and the Rusty Knight are fun to hear as they plan to remove a several-hundred-year-old curse from Nork. Equally engaging are Edward's parents and the old woman of the forest who's vital to lifting the curse. The fairy-tale ending is the perfect conclusion for young listeners.

Great reading supplement

Great compliment to our reading program. Plenty of first grade appropriate reading material. Sections written in script for copy work were less helpful for modern manuscript writers but if you are teaching cursive first that would be fine. Students were unfamiliar with certain word usages due to the historic nature of the stories, so great for building vocabulary.

My school aged children loved it.

A Nice Facsimile Reprint

This is a nice facsimile reprint of the McGuffey First Reader. It will appeal to those interested in the history of education and those who are looking for additional materials to strengthen their child's reading skills.

I got this for my granddaughter for Christmas since she is doing her student teaching this semester and will be a teacher. She loved it.
