Great book for a 1st-2nd grader!

MY FAVORITE PINK AND REX BOOK

First published in the 1990's the Pinky and Rex series is still relevant to children of the 21st century because of the real-world situations the books discuss. These books were favorites of my children!

This book is Accelerated Reader Rated!

My childrens' school participates in the Accelerated Reader Program. This book is AR rated. James Howe is an excellent auther for early readers. The stories have great themes, and are extremely well written!

Book of Empathy

The author addresses all kinds of children's issues in his books, but books like this are rare. As much as some children will find it hilarious, children who actually have bed-wetting problems/ daytime accidents may feel a little better about themselves. There are hardly any children's books that address such embarrassing issues.

The Pinky and Rex books are inspired by the author's favorite color as well as a friendship he had with a girl very much like Rex.

Pinky gets embarrassed!

This book is about a boy named Pinky, who gets embarrassed by something that happens at school. Pinky's best friend Rex promises Pinky that she will never break the promise by telling the secret of what happens. You have to read the book to find out if the promise is broken.

I liked this book alot, because sometimes things happen at school that embarrass you, and it is great to have a best friend to help you.

Basic read for the kids

Good read for my daughter

I started reading the original to my 4 yr old and the language and treatment of women was so antiquated I quickly stopped. She loved this version. I felt it kept the feel of the original book without implying Mom's should spend their days getting ready for dinner parties.

Didn't like it

I should have read more carefully. I was looking for the original story... not a knock off by a different writer sold as the same book. I wish I hadn't bought this to read to my daughter.

classics for kids revisited

Classics for kids have been republished for many years without taking in consideration the evolving taste in a time when changes are fast and many.

At last a publisher has adapted a well known, very classic, international story for the world we live in.

Kids will love the vivid and amazing illustrations and the revised story.

Parents will read easily the text to their kids or help them read themselves.

A must to buy and share quality time at home.

Lawn Mower Book

The book was great but it as way over the head of the child. It wasn't really for the ages stated.

I love the magic books!

I am an elementary school librarian, and I have been reading these books to students grade 2-4. Every grade LOVES these books, and can't wait until we start the next one!

A good laugh awaits.

When the Willows need the lawn mowed, they came across a magical mower that would stop at nothing to satiate itself. The children were dragged across the hill and skim across the water. It is really funny how Celia tricked the mower and entertaining to read how the mower, which seemed to have its own intelligence, managed to out maneuvered the ambush of the Willows.

I found this book less exciting compared to Wild water magic.

Not much of a plot here, but likable characters.

I received a copy of this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm always looking for good middle grade books to get my sons more interested in reading, and since they love Harry Potter, I figured this book would be even better because it has "magic" right in the title! I was unfortunately not really excited by it, though. The book is a nice short one, especially good for kids with shorter attention spans, but there's really no plot to it, and even less character development! The book takes place in one day, when the kids try to mow their large lawn with a rotary mower to save their parents the money of getting a new gas powered mower, in the hopes that Derek will be able to use that money instead to ride the train to visit some of his old friends (the family recently moved to the boonies from the city). Alas, while the mower was sitting in the shed, it soaked up magic apparently from the soil, although I was never really sure about how the magic got there in the first place. When I requested the book I wasn't aware that it was the second one in a series, so maybe all of this was explained in the first book. I just know that I was left with a lot of unanswered questions at the end of the book.

Basically, this was a book without a plot, without character development, and with unexplained questions at the end. The kids were likable, though, and the book was short (only 112 pages), so it wasn't a chore to read, but I don't think I'll be reading any more in this series.

Good semi-easy read for girls and boys

We used this in a school book club for advanced second grade readers. They loved the story about the big magical hamster.

Kids loved it

My daughter had it read in less then 2 days. Super cute and held her attenttion. Will be getting the rest of the series soon

Disappointing book.

When we ordered this book on my daughter's kindle we thought it would be just as good as the Emmy and the rat books, however, we were very disappointed. It was very short, the characters were not well developed and the story was flat. The idea for the book was great but she did not develop the story line at all. Don't waste your money.

Awesome

Fun read aloud for elementary students

I just finished reading this book with my homeschooling first grader. We both really loved the book - in fact, he liked it so well that he kept "sneak reading" chapters when we weren't together, because he couldn't wait for the next chance for us to read it. He read the whole second half of the book without me but still liked it well enough to listen to me re-read those chapters with him as well. This book is such a gem, I can't believe I haven't discovered it until now. The characters are memorable, the concept is fun, and the dialogue is spot on. Best of all, this book had more colorful language and fun analogies than any book that I remember reading. We often ended up laughing out loud at the unique phrases and expressions, and we found many opportunities to stop and discuss what a certain phrase might mean. I will definitely return to this book when my younger children are old enough to appreciate it. It is such a fun read!

A kids review!

I like chocolate, but we're talking about books. The Mayor of Central Park is a great book. I recommend this book for people who like talking animals. It's about rats taking over central park. Oscar the squirrel is trying to prevent that from happening. My favorite character is Big Daddy Duds. He likes diamonds. All the other characters are animals too.

My favorite part is the big baseball game. The characters changed a lot. For example, Arty the pitcher, changed into a Hollywood star.

The book is well written. The author is good at surprising you. I loved this book.

fairly good story

The setting of this book takes place in 1900. The main character in the book is Oscar Westerwit, a squirrel who loves baseball and Broadway musicals. He heads up a team of animals to over come a gangster rat named Big Daddy Duds who ties to bring trouble to the park area. Find out if their plan works in The Mayor Of Central Park!

The book was easy and fun to read.

The characters in the book are animals. Children enjoy animal stories most of the time.

A firm favourite

An engagingly written version of this story. it has been slightly updated and is much enjoyed by my children. It is also a goo, short, bedtime story.
