    Long, gruelling journey
This is a violent, suspenseful yarn that takes one through a bitter winter in the early days of the Soviet regime. The book falls into two parts largely, but I will not spoil the story by explaining why. Throughout, it is a powerful story that reminded me of Tom Rob Smith's Child 44; also set in the dark early Soviet era. The environment is beautifully, vividly described, and as someone who has travelled in this region at this time of year, it all feels very realistic. Like all such stories, it struggles to maintain the tension over the course of a fairly long book, but the narrator is an easy listen. The denouement is perhaps a little contrived, but this is a tense, violent story, very well told.

    Just Okay
After reading " Marked in Mexico" (which I thoroughly enjoyed and rated 5 stars), Shrouded in Secrets was just okay. The book started off very well; I liked the theme of the hunt for the mystical crystals, but I did not enjoy the plot.
For an agent, I thought the main character, Cash, was inept as a leader and I could not warm up to him at all. Two-thirds of the way into the book the twists and turns were just a bit much. They were very complicated, too confusing and difficult to follow. The flow of the plot became choppy and I found this irritating. I finished the book but was disappointed.
With the exception of Cash, the other characters were more redeeming and I still liked the overall theme.
Kim McMahill never misses her mark!
Once again Ms McMahill has proven her writing talent in her latest novel. From points all over the world the wrongful collection of long ago hidden mystical Mayan relics alerts CIA agent, Cash Luker.
As he tries to stop the devastation of antiquities and humankind, he must conquer the secrets of his past and save the woman who has won his heart.
From the mangrove forest in the Bahamas to underground cities in Peru to the Navajo Nation in Arizona, Ms McMahill creates for the reader the experience the assemblage of agents, an archaeologist and a scientist encounter as they search for the thirteen relics that have the power to change the world.
But Cash Luker may have met his match when someone from his past, equally knowledgeable and with a carefully collected group of assistants seems to stay one step ahead of him in the race for the thirteen.
I highly recommend this novel. Very well done Ms McMahill!
    Wow! What an adventure!
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat! It was full of action, and the action spanned the globe. I had such a great time trying to figure out who the traitor was, and I also enjoyed trying to solve the mystery of the skulls. Kim McMahill really knows how to write a book thatâs full of tension and suspense. If you like lots of action and adventure mixed with exotic locations, this is the book for you!
    Suspenseful to say the least
The intrigue in this book will curl your hair. I loved the good guys and feared the bad ones. Ms McMahill never disappoints. I loved reading about the geographical and exotic sights I will never see. I could invision them through the descriptive details. This author has a vivid imagination. She kept me spellbound until the final page, and I liked the ending. All through the book, I wondered what would happen to the hidden treasures once they were found. The new locations were perfect. Thanks Ms McMahill. Your book was a perfect Saturday read.
    Exciting Read!
"Shrouded in Secrets" is a fast-paced adventure story spiced with mystery, romance, drama, and exotic locations.

One little bird. That's all it took to put an entire town on edge. When Langley Calhoun, the Chief of Police of Fenton, New Hampshire, decides that it's more important to find out who committed a senseless crime than it is to protect the rich and powerful - and even members of his own family - then things get tense in peaceful little Fenton. The mystery that unfolds also forces the Chief to face the deep hostility that has been simmering between him and his older brother, a powerful lawyer, for decades.
    Members Reviews:
    Oprah needs to READ THIS
Not only is this a wonderfully written and very easy read which makes it perfect for younger readers to continue their development, but if you know or research a little about Mr. Trodson you will realize his words are more poignant, more heartfelt and more impressive than just those of a regular author.
Eagles Fly Alone is everything from a "murder" mystery, to an acknowledgment of the beauty and the flow of the lyrical sense of language as well as a description of some of the relevant political and social topics of today. It brings back the love of reading to those who have always known it, and for the newbies who want to know the power of its magic. You should not only read Eagles Fly Alone, but the next work as well, Tide Turning. I love Lars Trodson's writing and highly recommend it to everyone.
    Time well spent!
Lars Trodson, in his mystery "Eagles Fly Alone", gives us small town New England with all five senses! From setting, to characters, to dialogue it all comes alive and stays with you. I spent Thanksgiving weekend with this book and as my New England family was around me Trodson gave me his fictional family which to me seemed just as real and completely New Hampshire. Every detail from politics, to nature, to emotions kept me turning the page to see what was coming next. A mystery with some nice twists and turns while allowing you to get to know all the characters creating subplots as intersting as the main plot. This book was a great way to spend an evening or two. Let the New England winter come and curl up with this book and a nice fire. I look forward to more of Langley Calhoun and anything else Mr. Trodson pens!
    Storytelling at its best
In his first novel, Eagles Fly Alone, Lars Trodson has delivered a new world that is at once familiar and compelling. As with most great stories, plot is the least of it (To be clear, the plot is inventive, interesting, and enjoyable). Rather, it is the telling that draws the reader in and keeps him involved. Mr. Trodson gives us Fenton, NH, a town that those of us who grew up in New Hampshire identify with readily. At the same time, it is not the town we know from our youth. It is our town as it would be today, a combination of dogged Yankee tradition battling- sometimes winning, sometimes losing- the encroachment of the twenty-first century. We harken to the recognizable selectmen's meeting and the Halloween parade while recoiling from the attempt to locate a Dirty Books store in town and the dependence on tax revenue from a despoiling landfill.
It is in the characters he has created, though, that Lars Trodson's gift is most evident. From an almost-forgotten park ranger to an iconoclastic veteran to the Calhoun family, we are introduced to complete people.

    Language: English
    Release date: 05-21-15
    Publisher: Pan Macmillan Publishers Ltd.
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Those who play with fire are going to get burned.... Seven years ago Martin Chadwick set fire to a Manchester pub, not knowing a teenager was sleeping inside. Chadwick's release from prison is imminent, with journalists gearing up for a good old-fashioned media lynching.
With the victim's father telling the papers he is out for revenge, DS Jessica Daniel is left to keep an eye on Chadwick and his fiery 18-year-old son.
If that's not enough to keep her occupied, a private investigator is doing a fine job sticking his oar in, it looks like there's a schoolgirl suicide ring in operation, her car is working a little too well, and the endless rain continues to pound her northern home.
Jessica's personal and professional life are in the balance - giving her barely enough time to focus on the person in her midst seemingly intent on burning everything to the ground.
    Members Reviews:
Good, but not as good as some in the series!
What did you like best about Playing with Fire? What did you like least?
The story was okay, but no page turner unlike some in the series. My attention wandered away at times and I may not have stuck with it if I hadn't grown attached to DS Jessica Daniel in the earlier books.
Would you be willing to try another book from Kerry Wilkinson? Why or why not?
Yes, I will keep on with the series. Some are great, some 'pass the time'.
What does Becky Hindley bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
She is a great narrator. Flawless infact.
Was Playing with Fire worth the listening time?
    On balance, yes.
    Another easy Listen
I did enjoy this listen, but I didn't think the writing was as good. There seem to be phrases repeated lots of times. And I did think that the main character was unfortunately coming across as a bit of a caricature.
Good read good follow on from the last book
i really like the notrator style and enjoy these jessica danells books worth a look x

    Members Reviews:
Good stuff in keeping with the rest of the series!
If you could sum up Think of the Children in three words, what would they be?
    Well written and compelling,
What other book might you compare Think of the Children to, and why?
    The series is consistently good.
What about Becky Hindleys performance did you like?
She is an excellent narrator. She is clear, has great tone and paces well.
    Any additional comments?
I'm enjoying getting to know Jessica Danial better with each book in the series.
    Lame story-line
Would you try another book written by Kerry Wilkinson or narrated by Becky Hindley?
I'd be less inclined to buy any further books by this author.
Has Think of the Children put you off other books in this genre?
I'm not put off, as I've enjoyed many other books in this genre.
You didnt love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    It was just OK..
    Any additional comments?
Once the book had finished, I was left irritated that I had spent the time listening to it , as the motives given for each of the three disappearances were far-fetched and unrealistic.
    Great book in the series
Great story that had me hooked for the whole thing. All of the books in this series are great.
    brilliant!!!
loved it, very entertaining. the story flow's through personal relationships into professional ones seamlessly giving an almost there feeling throughout.
Decent build up ruined by a terrible ending
I have read and enjoyed previous books in this series but for me this was just rubbish. The build up and background is good but the end makes no sense. Trying to avoid spoilers the central problem is that there are inaccuracies and plot holes through the final third of the book. One of the mistakes is so blatant that it makes the whole ending nonsensical. I was left frustrated and annoyed and I would expect it would do the same for others.

    Another fantastic Jessica story
Would you consider the audio edition of Thicker Than Water to be better than the print version?
Both print versions and audio versions have their own merits, I read the eBook first but wanted to listen to Becky Hindley read Jessica again, she does a fantastic Jessica as I know from listening to all the others in the series.
What other book might you compare Thicker Than Water to, and why?
Any other Jessica Daniel title, because they are the only books that could be this good.
Have you listened to any of Becky Hindleys other performances? How does this one compare?
This performance by Becky is much the same as all of her other performances, which is to say, absolutely brilliant.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Many a laugh out loud response and a few reactions of irritation at the way Adam and Jessica were keeping secrets from each other. I felt like crying at the end though, simply because it had finished.
    Any additional comments?
Jessica is back in top form in this book, annoying her way around the city, There are some tensions between between Dave and Jessica, also between Adam and Jessica in this story which were irritating and amusing in equal measure.
My favourite chapter would be the Comedy Club with Hugo's magic performance.
    Hooked on the whole series
The missing book finally on audio! This did mean I listened to them out of order but did fill in some of the gaps for me. I did buy the paperback but thankfully this became available before I got too far in!
I have enjoyed every single book in this series - excellent book and great narration - kept me in the story and didn't feel my mind was wondering while listening as sometimes it does when I just can't get into a book. I do think you should read them in order to understand the background bits.
    More please......
    Another brilliant Jessica Daniel book!
Good story with a touch of humour and brilliantly read, can't wait to download the next one! Highly recommended.
A very good read looking forward to the next one
Once again I really enjoyed this book, the plot is great, normally I can gess the killer but in these books I have to think really hard
    Looking forward to reading more
    Enjoyable
A good story with good twists and turns but
not quite making it to 'can't put down' status. I found that I simply didn't care what happened to the characters.
I've had mixed feelings about the previous Jessica Daniels books and was hesitant about getting another.
