great leadership book turned into a self help one
Great read till chapter six! Lots of good ideas and inspiration on how to be a better leader.
After the book turns into shorter chapters which are much more aligned with a self help book than a leadership one.
My other issue is the authors constant talk about managing across cultures and distances but he doesn't spend any time really making a connection between the book ideas and this concept.
    Five Stars
    great book with good ideas
    It fits!
Fits project I'm working on from another angle, good to have a mix of sources from which to draw a hook.

An Emotional Approach to Getting the Job Done
What did you like best about Positive Leadership? What did you like least?
The author is sincere. Got that. The premise is that an enterprise (company, organization, family) that practices emotional intelligence and provides a respectful, nurturing environment has a performance benefit over those without. Is it intuitively obvious? Yes. Do we need the reminder? Yup. That said, I worry that this could be interpreted by some to believe that the best jobs is where the workplace has devolved int a big group therapy session. Do that before or after hours, thank you.

    Narrator: Davis Sound LLC
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 22 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-09-13
    Publisher: Susan Z. Finerty
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes
    Genres: Business, Leadership
    Publisher's Summary:
You're in a matrix, whether you realize it or not. The test: Do you have multiple bosses? Do you depend on a variety of resources throughout the organization to get your tasks done, and do these resources report into other people or teams? If you answered ''yes'' to either, you're in a matrix role.
Matrix roles are everywhere. The field customer contact person who writes contracts, negotiates delivery and troubleshoots product issues is in a matrix role. So is the product manager simultaneously accountable for numbers in her country, region and business unit despite the fact they are in conflict, or the HR person who reports both to a globalized function and the head of the business they support.
Master the Matrix: 7 Essentials for Getting Things Done in Complex Organizations is based on the experiences and ideas of over 100 matrix practitioners, combined into seven matrix essentials:
These seven essentials can push you past matrix management and toward matrix mastery.

    Great content and speaker
I recently had the opportunity to see the author, Susan Finerty, present her materials from this book live at a seminar. Not only is she a content expert, but she has examples and anecdotes to make the book really come alive â simply magical. Master the Matrix is a brilliant, practical and useful business book. Susan breaks down the âessentialsâ of successfully navigating a matrix organization in a format that is simple and fun to read. With a series of building blocks and frameworks, the author provides both a way to think about the issues and reinforcement tools to assist with retention. During the seminar, I had the chance to see an advance copy of her materials for her new companion book âThe Cross-Functional Influence Playbookâ. Like the title sounds, the âplaybookâ has pragmatic, actionable exercises to help you get the right things done. This pair of books will be a great desktop reference for everyone.
    Enthusiastic thumbs up
Most of us work in a matrix environment without the benefit of the skills and mindsets we need to be successful. Finerty does a beautiful job of articulating the "how to's" through her own voice and experience as well as those voices of others she's interviewed. She's concise and provides clear and compelling rationales for her recommendations. This book provides an outstanding foundation for everyone grappling with the challenges of working on cross functional teams and on projects that require accountability to others to whom they don't directly report. I've underlined more in this book than I can remember doing in quite some time. Can't wait to put the learning into practice. Thanks Susan Finerty!

    Publisher's Summary:
Narrated by the author. A new, tenth-anniversary edition of the leadership classic that was hailed as one of the 100 best business books of all time.
In his exciting and timeless business parable, The Radical Leap, Steve Farber explores an entirely new leadership model, one in which leaders aren't afraid to take risks, make mistakes in front of employees, or actively solicit employee feedback. His audiobook dispenses with the typical, tired notions of what it means to be a leader.

Despite his unassuming appearance, the enigmatic Edg seems to know an awful lot about leadership, and this brief interaction propels Steve into an unforgettable journey. Along the way he learns about extreme leadership - and what it means to take the radical leap:
Geared to people at any level who aspire to change things for the better, The Radical Leap is creating legions of extreme leaders in business, education, nonprofits, and beyond.
This audio production was engineered, directed, and edited by Richard Del Maestro, Studio Del Maestro. Original music by Billy White Acre, Big Planet Music.

    Good lessons, clunky told
Yeah, this is the kind of book you either love or hate. The lessons in this book are valuable, but when it is told in a story format, it loses its gravity.
    Awesome story of leadership
this is one of the best leadership books out. I'm changes by it and have grown because of it.... thanks.
leadership is Love. Leading with Love works
I love the Narrator, it keeps the audio very interesting and the insight are priceless. one of my top 50 books for sure.
Condescending and fake story with some good points
It was a struggle to complete, but I powered through because it did offer several great points.
Problem is, the story was ridiculous, fake and condescending. If you don't mind that sort of thing then you'll like this book.
    Outstanding!
Where does The Radical Leap rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
To tell the truth, this is the first audiobook I've ever listened to. It's all downhill from here!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Steve & Edg. Their interplay was enlightening and fun to follow
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Extreme Leadership - Striving for the OS!M events which propel you to the next level!
    Any additional comments?
Engaging, fun, thought-provoking. Perfect way to learn on the go!

    Interesting but cursory
I am not a CIO, but it's hard to get a decent survey of transformative technologies outside my own area. The topics addressed in this short overview were relevant and interesting but I was disappointed by some of the chapters which provided little to know case studies or examples of how the mentioned technologies could be used well or poorly. For example, the author warns against proprietary solutions masquerading as standards, but cites no examples.
Where case studies are mentioned, though, they are good.
