Could not put it down

What made the experience of listening to Private Lives the most enjoyable?

The story was quite complicated as all Tasmina Perry's books are and kept me totally engrossed I listened to it on a flight and could barely stop listening when we had to land.

What about Jane Collingwoods performance did you like?

I love Jane Collingwood she makes the book a delight to listen too.

This book like all Tasmina Perrys books was gripping from start to finish, I really enjoyed it. Just wish there were more on Audible I have gone and purchased the paperbacks for those not on Audible.

Outstanding & riveting....Perry is a favourite!

Gripping from beginning to end. Storyline absolutely enticing. Narrator also outstanding - I do hate it when they change voices for characters - and this was just perfect in every way...hoping for many more from Perry's pen.

Never a dull moment with this one!

I liked the many colourful characters in this book and the wonderful places the author took us to visit.

Anna was my favourite character. She appeared to be meek but in the end, she was the mouse that roared.

Yes but the length made that unrealistic so I would say it was very nice to know I was coming back to it when ever I was free.

I only just discovered Tasmina Pary and I like her style of writing. The books are the right length for a holiday read but also great for escape when you're not on holiday.

The Surprise of the Year

Although I have read and enjoyed many of her books, I only bought this book because I am 'a soldiers' wife'. The surprise for me was just how enjoyable this audio book is- so much so that I have told more people about this book than any other this year. Joanna Trollope seems to understand army life from the family standpoint so well that if somebody told me that she was an army wife then I wouldn't be surprised. Yet the beauty of her writing is that it really isn't about the army as much as about all those careers that regularly separate families and then bring them together, sometimes under stressful conditions. My husband is French but the story could just as well have been set in Paris because the story, the emotions it touches are universal - read it, you won't be disappointed.

Very touching

I heard an interview with Joanna Trollope and an Army wife before I heard this book, in which the author was delighted with the comments of the Army wife that she had all her facts (including the emotional elements) spot-on. I found it an extremely human and humane tale, which gave me great food for thought. Excellent narration, too.

An ok story.

Not a strong and engaging story.. I thought it all fairly predictable. Other books by this author had more engaging stories. Just a personal view.

Joanna back on form.

I read all of Joanna Trollope's earlier novels as they came out. Then there was a long period of indifferent writing and disappointment. I have loved every word of "The Soldier's Wife" and it is great to,see Ms Trollope writing so eloquently again about contemporary issues to do with relationships, vocational careers and modern demands. Thank you!

A fantastic diversion

Another audiobook that I really enjoyed - it was a pain to stop listening when I had other things to do that weren't compatible with audiobook listening. While not a work of "great literature", it doesn't pretend to be and the story is a fantastically diverting one. The performance is great.

I just love Jenny Colgan!

Great narrator, great writing. I have a chronic illness which means I am bed bound most of the time and this was a good book to listen too. Gentle and Entertaining, but not intense. Perfect for the days when light hurts my eyes and I was in pain and needed to get out of my body! All her books are good for this, especially the more recent ones based around food shops.

lighthearted matters of the heart

Colgans books are light fare, but well worth a listen, especially when they are beautifully read by brilliant Penelope Rawlins.

slow in the middle but over all a good listen

i started off thinking this was a great book but by the middle i felt it was going slow and i wanted to skip ahead to seed the plot line up,but as it progressed it came good,the characters were well thought out and i felt were well explained,the naraitor was good,over all i would recomend as a good listen

disappointed by the vulgarity

The writing is good and the storyline started out promising, but it quickly became very vulgar. In my book, it isn't necessary to use the F bomb to describe everything in life. I marked "some" for sexual content in the questionnaire; it may have gotten more explicit after I stopped reading.

Always a good read

Her books always entertain, with characters that are believable and amusing in everyday situations with a twist. Great holiday reads, relaxing and upbeat.

Fun, lighthearted read for summer

I picked up a couple of Judy Astley books at the library a week or so ago and, having never read her before, approached them with an open mind. I have to say that I will be looking for more books by this author because if you want a fun, lighthearted, easy summer read then she is the writer for you. I would not rate this as a keeper but it was definitely a well written story with engaging characters.

I suspect that Astley hones on in the recently divorced 40-something woman and has made her a speciality. Certainly this is the case in the second book I am reading, and she does a good job of telling us about Nell, left by her husband, Alex, for the archetypal younger model. Nell has 2 kids although we only meet her teenaged daughter, Mimi, who gives her monther a few moments of anxiety but is also a funny girl who holds her own in the story.

The plot is based around the efforts of Nell to find an old boyfriend whom she has never been able to forget - Patrick - and make contact after the years of her marriage to Alex. Patrick is her "young love's dream" and she wants to see if the spark is still there. In the meantime, next door neighbour, Ed, is there to help her in any way he can with whatever is troubling her, providing a shoulder to cry on or keep an eye out for potential burglars. Steve, the self-defence teacher, also becomes a bit of a focal point in her life who teaches rather more than how to stick your finger in an assailant's eye.

All in all, the story of the recently divorced Nell learning to get back her life and her adventures on the way are a funny, warm-hearted, amusing summer read with moments of humour and a pleasant way to pass a few hours.

Relaxing,well written but quite predictable

This is a really good book if you just want to turn your brain off and relax. The first two chapters started off a bit depressing but then it good much better. Its a story about a woman who has the most cynical view I've ever come across. Regrettably the listener is much smarter than the main heroine and sees what is coming a mile off.

I was doubting to score this a four or three stars but the nice Irish tones from Caroline Lennon made it a real relaxing book to listen to.

I love the demonica series and have listened to them all in order with Audible. Lots of good characters and great suspense and sexiness as well, highly recommend this as well as other Larissa Ione books too. She's a great author, check out all her other books too.

Fantastically brilliant

I have now listened to 6 of Lariisa Ione's books and have found that I was unable to put the books down but the audible books create so much more. I have listened to this book now several times and I'm still learning more about the characters. I can't wait for the rest to be published as audible books.

Good different!

Travels the same road as the previous stories from Larissa but strays off with a difference and I really liked it. It's gritty, a bit harsh and I can't wait to hear the rest of them!

Expect the unexpected.

Wasn't expecting such a spine chilling listen. As Libby, the second wife found and read the diaries of Eve the dead first wife I thought I could guess where this story was going...how wrong I was, much to my delight! The narration was brilliant, the delivery added to experience, I am sure had I been eye reading I would have given excited animated voices which would have been very wrong.The ending, again not the expected gave me great satisfaction, a quiet justice. I recommend this listen to everyone, didn't even come close to guessing.

This story started gently, but, a la Ms Koomson style, you really really will not be disappointed-trust me-you won't need to wait long for the tension to start!

So good

I loved this book. The narrator was excellent - her expressions and the accents and voices she used added so much to an already addictive story. The two main female characters were very likeable and the story moved at a fast pace with no let up. I didn't want to stop listening and was sorry when it was over. Thought provoking, sweet and sinister all in one book!

Have you listened to any of Adjoa Andohs other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the second book I have listened too narrated by Adjoa. She is a bit if a genious. Her range of tones and ability with a wide variety of accents is the best I've heard.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but it moved me and made me feel very sad for the women who really go through the experiences depicted. It was so cleverly written that it drew the listener deeply into the world of the characters - aided of course by the excellent narration.

Such an insightful thriller

It starts as a romance and develops into a thriller carrying you along so fast that you find chores to do just so that you can keep listening. Dorothy Koomson seems to get into the very soul of her characters. You live the highs and the lows with the characters until there is nothing but lows, some of which are seriously harrowing.
